Nice and easy for Lewis Cass, so quick........

    Coach,

I should have paid closer attention....OUR schedule just changed a bit.  Fine with the difference, and we'll be there.

No, mentioned more so because everyone in the conference but Southern Wells would have it if the plans go through. I know the ACAC & Southern Wells relationship has been better prior than it currently is. Out of all the schools, Southern Wells would benefit the most from turf after the field issues they had before. I was pretty shocked AC even considered it, let a lone had drawing & designs. I could think of more avenues that grant $ could go to compared to a turf field in Monroe. Parking lots for sure, especially if that meant buying more ground. Being tied to Adams Central & Adams County 4H the biggest mistake was the 4H fairgrounds not moving when Don Ray was offering to donate the land to move it. Guessing the current location butting up to AC to the east was donated too. The school could definitely use that land for parking & fair could have used the larger piece of land that was proposed. Another factor is Best One of Monroe/Zurcher Tire uses the fairgrounds for storage as well & having a new expo hall built.

Honestly, AC has one of the VERY BEST turf fields in NE Indiana.  I'd have ranked it right there with Carroll (who's switched to field turf).

I have no issue with AC keeping a grass field!!!   The issue will/could be it getting chewed up by a rainy fall season that comprises all of the FB teams from Middle School through Varsity HS.  It's an occurrence that so far hasn't been an issue with AC....

Yes, the SAC is a done deal. Unless you were referring to Penn.

Yup.  Now moving forward a year with CHS...  THAT'S a hell of road schedule to through.

I am not at all sure what Penn is doing.  Kinda out of my perspective...I have games there, but haven't had any real insights into what they should/shouldn't do inside or outside of their conference (or even if they will be in one).

Which is one of the reasons I advocated for the SAC to schedule non conference opponents. Snider vs Warren Central will bring a MUCH bigger gate than Snider vs South Side. Fans get bored mercy ruling same opponents year in and year out.

Looking at Penn's schedule, I'd agree with your assessment of the attendance. Mishawaka will garner some interest, but the other three home games might as well be watched on the internet, or tune into the Big Ten's Friday night game (which is a total punch in the gut to high school football).

Carroll (Fort Wayne): They host Warren Central, Bishop Dwenger, Homestead, Wayne, and North Side. Now that's a home schedule if I ever saw one.

    Already happening

Northrop is an enigma IMO, I can't image that they don't have talent in that school to be better in football. I think North Side needs to be in mix somewhere, somehow.

We all know that the talent which Northrop has, routinely is in the stands on Friday nights.   It's inexcusable that past the days of Matt Stinson this program has been an outlier in 6A.

They absolutely deserve to be placed firmly in the "considered" conference, if no reason other than to: Elevate the recent shame they have provided within 6A.

I am a Quentin Brown fan...I think he may.make them relevant to 6A.   I truly believe that HE can get some of those 'track stars' to participate in FB.

I could HNAC getting absorbed by TRC

    Division 1

Manchester, Rochester, Winamac, Culver, Caston, Triton, North Miami

    Division 2

Wabash, Southwood, Northfield, Lewis Cass, Pioneer, Peru, and Maconaquah

The two outliers. North Judson and Whitko probably would have to find new homes.

Whitko to NECC should an 'opening' happen there...or am I just Falcon kidding myself?  😀

It would be a tough sell trying to convince Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley to leave the Three Rivers Conference.  The enrollment gap between the largest schools and smallest schools in the TRC seems to be increasing, but the top 7 schools (including Rochester and Valley) would have basically the same enrollments as the 7 schools that would form a new conference with them (not including Winamac).  The average travel time for Rochester in the TRC is 28.5 miles, and Valley’s average is 27 miles.  In the resurrected Northern State Conference, Rochester’s average travel distance would be 33 miles and Valley would be 32 miles.  And that’s if Winamac is included since they are not far from Rochester.  Here’s the enrollment comparison:

    TRC
    Peru 608
    Maconaquah 594
    Tippecanoe Valley 545
    Rochester 485
    Wabash 478
    Manchester 463
    Whitko 382
    North Miami 278
    Northfield 266
    Southwood 253

    New NSC
    Glenn 625
    Knox 570
    Tippecanoe Valley 545
    Jimtown 541
    Rochester 485
    Bremen 472
    LaVille 387
    Winamac 374

Whatcha gonna do when Northfield and Southwood ultimately HAVE to merge?  Of course some numbers will go elsewhere, but the majority would be within the same building.....and it wouldn't be called "Northwood"....  perhaps...Southfield?

  9. Just something to think about.

The Tennessee Titans are moving from grass to turf in Nissan Stadium next year due to the number of injuries that have occurred with the grass surface there.

They said that the climate of Nashville is good for the turf at the start of the NFL season.  But towards the end, the grass presents a significant injury risk to players.

Or put in turf and use it for both like Dwenger. Honestly if they rent it would probably be with Concordia or Dwenger.

Dwenger wanted to rent Northside in the tournament but was denied by FWCS. So the rented USF stadium. Because Zollner was in bad shape.

Pretty sure that the 'renting' of a field via the FWCS had a lot of other considerations that lead to their not playing at a particular locale.

I officiated the game in question.  I think that I may have an insight that you don't.

    Just sayin....

I would love to see Bellmont join the ACAC.   We would instantly add a couple wins if not more in football and could build off of that success to get more players out.  We would also instantly compete for a conference title in boys basketball, baseball, and softball.  We would be the clear favorite in wrestling and volleyball are could still schedule plenty of out of quality conference opponents in those sports to prepare us for the postseason.

Why would Bellmont separate themselves from the rivals that they have cultivated for years, merely to 'win' a few more FB games vs. lower classified competition?  Makes absolutely no sense.  As far as the other schools that you reference outside of the NE8...they play them on a regular basis anyway.

    6 minutes ago, HoopsCoach said:

Man, that’s presuming a lot.  I don’t think there is any doubt Bellmont would be more competitive in the ACAC in the sports you listed, but I don’t know about the instant success you are suggesting. Other than Southern Wells, who is way down right now just like Bellmont, I’m not sure the Braves instantly add more football wins.  Bellmont does have an excellent wrestling program, but Jay County is also a top program in the area.  I could see a strong rivalry building between those two programs if Bellmont did make the jump.  Bellmont volleyball has also been really strong, however, one of their losses last season was to Heritage, so Bellmont wouldn’t have won the ACAC.

I know I suggested the ACAC schools reach out to Bellmont, but I think the depth of the NE8 compared to the ACAC in most sports and the lack of schools with soccer, swimming, etc. in the ACAC will make Bellmont reluctant to consider a move.

    @HoopsCoach absolutely ON POINT!   Couldn't have said it better myself...and I didn't.  🙂

My thoughts are that it's either Blackhawk Christian or Blackford leaving the CIC if the ACAC goes to 8. No way will Bellmont leave the NE 8 even though it would currently benefit them in football. They're followers feel that the ACAC is beneath them, especially wrestling. Just ask on Indiana mat.

Bellmont is too far invested in the NE8.  Football will eventually come back around.   Perhaps not to the State level days of yore.....but they WILL be impactful again.

As for Blackford....the Southern Wells situation has a lot of impact on who/what/where they will be soon. Let's see what that School Corporation becomes in the ensuing years.

  13. 2 hours ago, HoopsCoach said:

Completely agree. This has been rumored for a few months among ACAC member schools.  With the right coach, I think Blackhawk will be able to pull some athletes from Snider, Leo, Northrop, Carroll, etc. that feel like they can play a bigger role at a small school that plays 1A football.  Just look at their basketball program to see what will happen.  They used to be a doormat prior to class basketball when they had to compete with the larger Fort Wayne schools.  If they have a coach who can recruit some kids from the larger schools in addition to building their own feeder program, it will be just a few years before football is just like their basketball program.

Don’t expect the ACAC schools to blindly take Blackhawk just to get to 8 members.  They will need to consider the advantages Blackhawk has as a private school in a city with nearly half a million people compared to their own schools that have to accept any and all students in their small town, rural communities of only a few thousand residents.  The geographic proximity would be attractive to Heritage and Woodlan, but I could see their reluctance to admit Blackhawk if they have lost any students to them.  I could also see the 5 schools in Adams, Jay, and Wells Counties saying no.  If they really want an 8th member, maybe they reach out to Bellmont to see if the Braves would consider a move to the ACAC.  Then Angola could move into the Northeast 8 and Blackhawk can, as Bobby Knight once said, play with themselves.

I agree that the ACAC wouldn't "blindly" accept ANY team at this point, or in the future (with regards to FB).  But the OTHER sports (Men's and Women's)?  ALA: Carroll/Homestead vis a vis the SAC in Football/Basketball....  it's an intriguing addition...is it not?

Back to the 11-man FB situation.... A Blackhawk FB team playing the bulk of the ACAC at this time would be equivalent to Southern Wells at this time in the conference.  And I mean no insult to the Raiders; But it's hard times for them currently.  They WILL/WOULD take their lumps!

I can see Blackhawk formulating a schedule of a mixture of ACAC teams, NECC teams, unaffiliated IHSAA teams and perhaps smaller schools from Ohio in the near future to begin their program.

Bellmont is not leaving the NE8!

Angola's main issue is their proximity to the bulk of the NE8 schools with regards to the OTHER sports outside of FB.  Just as Garrett had when they left the NECC.....they (Garrett-Keiser-Butler school system) saw the cost of sports transportation explode in order to participate in the other sports from the Freshman and JV levels and below.

I would prefer that Angola (as with the situation that Carroll/Homestead have with the SAC)....  become a pseudo-NE8 member in the 2 Major sports of that conference.  I think they could/would be a great addition to the conference.

The down-side to this situation, is that that puts the NE8 one step closer to becoming a 'closed-conference'.  Would only leave 1 week for out of conference games.

I am fairly certain that at this point in time, the P/P argument as it relates to Blackhawk in FB....is moot!  Maybe in 10 years or so, the Allen County metro area schools that you reference would have a valid argument...but not now!  At least in FB.

Do you think BC has room on campus now to build a home stadium? Not sure about zoning issues, but the current spot listed on google maps as the soccer practice field looks to be big enough. I am not sure about the possibility of putting a stadium where the current soccer field is, or if there is room for putting a combined field/stadium in either spot.

I honestly don't think so at this time.  They are decent in Soccer, and unless they see a FB program as being a step forward with both attendance and the revenue generated from it, then do that.   But they don't need to build upon the soccer field to get it to accommodate both programs.

Their best bet for the time being is to reach out and schedule FB on the off weeks of a local school and rent out that field.

I know folk that attend Blackhawk's church.  Did they only do 1 season of 8-man?  Gonna be a big jump.  Might get a few wins in the ACAC.  First season could be a hefty learning curve.  Does anyone know what their attendance numbers are?  What class would they be in?  Assume 1A or 2A.

At the "lower levels"....7th and 8th grade, Blackhawk Christian has already been fielding 11-man teams.  So there is a template in the ensuing years for them to participate beyond 8-man.

(I believe) They played their 8-man schedule at Snider's Bowser Field, so I'd assume that at some point they would be looking for a larger facility for their "home-field".

RUMOR ALERT!  With Snider potentially building an on-campus stadium soon across the street (next to Lane Middle School).....Might that be the place when the Panthers are on the road?   Don't forget that the FW Fire Station is moving to Reed and State.  A heck of a lot of LAND that is owned and ready for 'something' to build upon...just saying!

Yes, the ACAC may be the most appropriate conference for them in sports....they'll take their lumps in FB though.  The ACAC schools (no matter what we may assume) are steeped in FB tradition that will take a few seasons to become competitive in.  Baseball, Basketball, Soccer...etc. the Braves would be a competitive member on Day One, and in some cases a POWERHOUSE.

Good luck to them if this is their goal.

And yes, 1A FB!  The student numbers would place them squarely in 1A for FB.  All other sports, would remain the same as they are at this time, unless SF puts them into a different classification.
