he was saying Castle's class of '21 when they were freshman, not last year's freshman game. MD was putting a beat down on Castle until a late barrage, like you said, and MD held on to win. MD freshman beat Jasper something like 45-13 last year.
This year's group of sophomores were undefeated at 8th and 9th graders. The JV team is 3-1 this year. Beat Central in OT, lost to Castle by 6, beat VL 34-0 and beat Memorial 37-0.
Both Central and North established youth leagues in the past 5-10 years. The population on the north side of Evansville has grown significantly and the "new" North High School was built. I think you are starting to see fruits of their labor paying off. I think Reitz is in a bit of a down spell, and their numbers were down a bit last year. Not sure about this year.
Too early to say MD has "gone south". They just lost a really good senior class and this year's team is a bit of a rebuild and they are experiencing some growing pains on offense with a soph QB, RB and some new OL. The defense has played well through 4 games.
If MD can take out Castle that makes it even more interesting.
I'm still not a big Central believer. They still seemed undisciplined on Friday night (as did MD) and their offense didn't do a whole lot with consistent short fields that resulted from turnovers.
2000 MD in 2A. 15-0 and slapped Luers around 56-10 in the title game (I know, I know Luers got their revenge the next year). I remember a lot of talk that that team could have won at multiple classes that year.
