Cody Hess will have the tall task of replacing Goebel.

I do wish some teams would continue to run their offense even up by 35 points. Run it with the JV kids just like you would with the varsity. Let the JV QB get some passes in. Clock doesn't stop so an incompletion wouldn't change anything. Get those guys some reps instead of running 3 straight dives and punting.

I wasn't able to go, but was told that MD basically ran the same three plays the whole scrimmage. I wouldn't put too much stock in scrimmage results, especially since MD doesn't.

Championships are they all equal
Wildcat1992 replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I think its ridiculous to say a teams championships "don't mean as much" based on the era they played in. The current system will always be the "best". 50 years from now when we have seeded sectionals, will they look back and say the champs from the 2020's don't mean as much because they were in a different system? Completely ridiculous. -
The lights at the bowl still suck

2A south was definitely down this year. The worst MD team in probably 30 years had NP beaten and let it slip away, with the help of a questionable NP TD and a missed 12 men on the field against NP on the 2 pt conversion in OT. NP rolled everybody else in 2A. Very well could have had a 2-7 regular season MD team playing Luers this past Saturday.

Central didn't really give MD fits. Central's offense had two great plays, both long scoring plays. The rest of the night their offense really struggled. If MD didn't turn it over 4x this would have been a game with a running clock. Chalk the 3 picks up to a sophomore QB who had a couple of bad decisions. The 4th was a fumble after a 15-20 yd run, so credit Central with hustling and getting the strip. But this game was never in doubt. With that said, I think Castle wins a close one tonight.

Not a joke. He did leave.

MD has a lot to clean up/figure out on offense. 4 turnovers against Central . Can't have that going forward. The soph QB made some good throws though. With more reps he will continue to improve. But we've got a rough stretch with Castle, Memorial, VL, Jasper and North coming up

IFCA Pre-Season Poll
Wildcat1992 replied to Titan32's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
They re-drew the 2A south last year. Linton got bumped from sectional 40 and we didn't see them until semi state. We've played Triton Central in the regional 4 straight years. We are 3-1 against them, but you have to make them the favorite over MD this year at this point due to all the graduation losses MD had -
Still good enough to win the sectional and likely play Triton Central in the regional for the 5th straight year

Guardian Caps — Do They Work?
Wildcat1992 replied to Bobref's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Someone clue me in on why they are worn during practice but not games? You rarely see any full speed practices with a ton of tackling anymore. Seems me that the risk of of high impact collisions is much higher on Friday nights than on a Tuesday afternoon. -
Who are the top 10 programs
Wildcat1992 replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Mater Dei ranks 9th all time in sectional championships (24) tied for 12th all time in regional championships (15) tied for 15th all time in semi-state titles (7) A couple of things hold them back from being higher. A 2-5 record in the state finals and being a 2A school. But I would struggle to find 20 programs better than MD in the state -
my son just graduated from MD. At honors day they announced all the activities that every graduate participated in. Now, I didn't make it a point to count but based on what I heard/saw I would say that the MD class of 2023 had between 10-15% of their graduates that fell into the "don't participate in anything category". I could be off on that %, but I'd say it is fairly close.

Wunderlich flips to Ball St from UT-Martin
-
I'm with you. We've been hearing how North is going to take it to the next level for at least 5 years now, yet they continue to be a .500 ball club. So what's holding them back? They have size, athletes, resources. Is it coaching?

Could be he has a problem or he just celebrated too much. Either way, he knew the repercussions of his actions and now he's paying the price. I do hope that he does get the help he needs and that his family supports him. You are right, losing his family would be tragic.
-
No it doesn't It's not tragic. This guy made the choice to get drunk and get behind the wheel. It would have been tragic if his stupid actions killed someone.

UT-Martin has 7 QB's on their current roster. No clue where he is going to rank in the pecking order

While MD loses a lot and has a ton of questions to answer on both sides of the ball, the JV and frosh teams were very successful this past season. Should be more of a reload than a rebuild. Biggest question IMO is who will be the QB. I would guess that it would be Tate Mallory, who will be a soph next seaon. Very solid nucleus on defense with Scheu, Stratman, Halbig and Turner back. Two good OL in Goodin and Wilkey are the only starters back on offense, but the key is QB. Stratman could be the main RB and is pretty good. I think MD will be very run heavy until the QB situation is ironed out. Depending on how quickly all the new starters acclimate to varsity ball, I could see them finish anywhere from 3-6 in the SIAC next year and another sectional championship. Beyond that would be a surprise for me.

This is anecdotal, but my graduating class at MD had about 105 students. Let's say 50% were boys. I can rattle off the names of 15 boys in my class that did absolutely nothing in HS other than show up for classes every day. That's 30%! Numbers may be different now, but there are still kids in the hallways that show up for class only and do nothing extracurricular.

The bad. The crowd for the 4A game coming in made leaving the 2A game take longer than it should have. I realize that covid played a part, but last year they didn't allow the 4A crowd in until the 2A crowd left. Lines a the concessions were bad. At the start of the 2A game, only one concession was open on our side. My wife went to the other concession and was told "sorry, we aren't open yet". How can that be possible? You would think that all the concessions would be open when they let people into the building. This made the lines extremely long at the one open concession. That's it. That is the bad. Everything else was top notch.
