https://reason.com/2020/01/16/family-sues-dea-and-tsa-after-elderly-mans-life-savings-were-seized-at-airport/#comments The DEA then notified Brown that it was seeking to permanently forfeit Rolin's life savings. Neither Rolin or Brown have been charged with a crime. In the meantime, the lawsuit says the loss of Rolin's savings has left him unable to fix his truck, which is his primary means of transportation, or get needed dental work. "My father and his parents worked hard for this money, and the government shouldn't be able to reach into his pocket and take it," Brown said a press release. "We did nothing wrong and haven't been charged with any crime, yet the DEA is trying to take my father's life savings. His savings should be returned right away, and the government should stop taking money from Americans who are doing something completely legal." In cases like Brown's, the DEA seizes cash using civil asset forfeiture, a practice that allows police to seize cash and property suspected of being connected to criminal activity, even if the owner is not charged with a crime. Federal, state, and local law enforcement seize millions of dollars in cash every year in drug interdiction operations, much of being transported along highways and through airports. In 2016, a USA Today investigation found the DEA seized more than $209 million from at least 5,200 travelers in 15 major airports over the previous decade. Police groups say civil forfeiture is a vital tool that allows them to disrupt drug trafficking by targeting its illicit proceeds. However, civil liberties groups say there are few safeguards to protect innocent owners, who bear the burden of challenging the seizure to get their property back. ... This has to stop. Really, this type of government abuse of power would cause the founding fathers to roll over in their graves. This is no longer America, land of the free and the home of the brave. It is a defacto police state. Thanks uni-party.

Lighten up, Francis. It was a question, not an attempt to put words in your mouth. One could easily say your reading comprehension could use some improvement as well, friend. -

Yeah, Mr. Lindelof said as much during the Watchmen podcast. He did a great job on this season, but I wonder what another writer-producer would do? -

You sure the open enrollment laws for government schools have had nothing to do with the increase in transfer cases? -

Impeachment inquiry
Muda69 replied to TheStatGuy's topic in Gridiron Out of Bounds's Out of Bound Forum
I never understood the deal with the pens. Knowing what we know about government waste those things are probably procured for about $100 a pop or so. How many thousands of taxpayers dollars has that wasted over the years? -
Rack this post! Now just waiting for the "but, but rail is better for the environment! What about climate change?" angle................................

https://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/counterpoint-be-skeptical-about-census All I answer on a census form, and have done so for several decades, is how many individuals currently live on my property. Have yet to receive a phone call or knock on the door from the Census Bureau or DoJ. I urge everyone else to do the same. All the other information the CB tries to gather is frankly unconstitutional.

House Votes To Send Impeachment Articles to Senate as New Evidence Comes to Light: https://reason.com/2020/01/15/house-votes-to-send-impeachment-articles-to-senate-as-new-evidence-comes-to-light/ Here we go. Could be interesting, but will probably be another Congressional yawner where all we witness is politicians grandstanding. -

Occupational Licensing Hurts the Little Guy
Muda69 replied to Muda69's topic in Gridiron Out of Bounds's Out of Bound Forum
Sure, if that license is granted by a private, non-government entity. You still haven't given a good reason why it has to be government in the licensing business. -

Honestly the travel times don't bother me. Any rational individual should know what they are getting into if they choose rail over plane travel. I can see that the romanticism and more leisurely pace of traveling across the country by rail can be an attraction to certain individuals, but why should the federal government and the taxpayer have to pay for it?

Not the point of the article at all. But nice attempt at deflecting from the real issue. -
