You think the talent level and community support is still there in Griffith? That fanbase traveled better than the Steelers or Packers back in the day. I have no doubt Mason can match the success Geffert (sp?) recently had before suddenly stepping down.  Curious to see if he can put the Panthers back into Regional/Semi-State/State title discussions.

Honestly I'm not sure on the community support as since Griffith left the NCC for the GSSC I haven't been able to see any of their games in person. Talent level I think is fair to say is down a bit judging from their results. I think it'll be an uphill climb getting them anywhere close to what they used to be. And being in the sectional with WL is a real killer. But Mason doesn't like to lose...

To amplify, not only did he play their #1 WR, Mike Williams, deep into a meaningless game last week - with the result that he was injured and out for this game - but he also was ahead 27-7 at halftime yesterday, and they threw 22 passes on 29 snaps in the 2nd half. They lost on the last play of the game, which never would have happened if they’d run some clock in the 2nd half. I heard someone describe it as “coaching malpractice.”

Absolutely no way they can bring him back after all that. Getting your best WR's back broken in a meaningless game is bad enough but that collapse was the nail in the coffin

When Mason was hired in 2015 AD Craig Shaman told the Jim Peters at the La Porte county herald dispatch that there were 40 applicants for the position.  Every time MC is searching for a new coach they have been very transparent through the entire process.

I'd assume there's quite a few people who've thrown their names in the hat already

In 1994, there was a Hispanic/Latino presence on the team.  I specifically remember Tony Gonzalez playing D tackle.  I think the Andreisen(sp?) kid was a freshmen.  He went on to be a part of the State team in 1997.  I cannot speak to the numbers in the school at the time, but I am not sure Race/Ethnicity is a problem.  The free and reduced number is everywhere, so not sure that can be the problem either.  Maybe a combination of things.

They lost their edge when Radke left for New Prairie. I'd say they're trying to get it back with this hire.

I believe he was AD at the time and it leaked that he told a HC Candidate for basketball that the candidate didn't want the job because the Portage Admin is horrible. They basically forced him out after that and he ended up at Michigan City. I think it was a mutual parting of ways and he wasn't fired.

Funny thing is, 15 years later the admin there is still horrible

It was said by you in response to what I'm sure was a few bad apples complaining on Facebook. I would find it very hard to believe that the Michigan City fanbase was over the only coach to win a Sectional title in the consolidated school history. Pre-Consolidation Elston won a Sectional Title in '84. That's it. Michigan City's entire history of HS football resulted in ONE Sectional Title before Mason came. Mason took the Wolves to the Semi-State round twice. I find it very hard to believe he was pushed out by unhappy fans and players.

    Three times* (not to nitpick)

The problem is, you can’t view a single draft choice in isolation. They have Justin Fields. Most people think he has a very high ceiling. The question is not whether Bryce Young is going to be better than Fields. The question is how much better the Bears team would be with Young, plus whatever you could get for Fields, vs. with Fields, plus whatever you can get for that #1 pick. It’s not nearly as simple as whether Young projects to be better. How much better? After all, the object is to have the best team, not necessarily the best QB.

All I’ll say is that the most valuable thing to have in the NFL is the #1 draft choice … and not be in need of a QB.

Young was making throws in the Sugar Bowl game that I've yet to see Fields make. Personally I think the juries still out on whether or not Fields can be a true franchise caliber QB. He's obviously a great athlete and has shown flashes but nothing sustained in the passing game (and don't tell me that's just on not having good receivers). There were games even at the end of the year you could tell the coaching staff didn't trust him enough to start airing the ball out. However, I think the Bears should trade down (maybe even multiple times). They've got one of the worst rosters top to bottom in the league. The defense (outside of the secondary) is horrendous and the O-Line and receiving corps in total are dreadful as well. Even though I'm much more skeptical than most, to me, Fields has earned the right to see show how far he can go as a QB in the league.

  8. Anyone know what his 40 time was coming out? Most of the top backs coming out of HS run around 4.5. On the recruiting websites like 247 they always state whether a kid runs track and if they have measurable speed times. If he wasn't running in track events or didn't have any measurable times for recruiters, that could've hurt his stock, especially when you take into Temp's point about white skill players (which we all know is true; "sneaky quick", etc.)

Where is Mason going to school next season and is he planning on playing football?  That kid can sling the rock and his size alone should put him on the radar for college programs.  Bowen is a beast also.  I love to see the small schools get some love in this Mr. Football award.  Those guys could be stars at any level in HS.

Wunderlich was really impressive to me at the state finals. As soon as I saw him during warmups I thought he looked like a different player than the year prior, and he played like a different player too. Some of the throws he made in that game were downright elite. I know he visited Wisconsin last year, does anyone know if anything came from that? With the caliber of some of the QB play I've seen in the Big Ten the past few years, I don't see why a team like the Badgers or Iowa wouldn't take him. Kid has the size, arm talent, and (from an outsider's perspective) the intangibles to be successful at a high level.

Lol. To say Memorial and Reitz would beat Snider, Valpo, Whiteland, Merrillville, and North Side is an absolute stretch. I have my doubts about New Pal as well. I think East Central and Roncalli would have been favored however. Not saying they'd win, just saying they'd be favored. It's all speculation. Unfortunately those in Central and South will just have to deal with the fact that Valpo is the best time in the second biggest division. Hard pill to swallow, I know. Northern football is good. See the Carroll/HSE score.

Agree...I think Roncalli, EC, and New Pal would all be heavily favored but Reitz and Memorial...not so much, I like any of the teams you listed by about 2 TDs.
