This final is a shocker for me . Where did Valpo come from ? They were beaten badly in week 1 .

They’ve gotten a lot better since then, this is a very young team, many of whom were making their first varsity start in that game. Different quarterback as well who’s maybe given them a spark as a runner. Marshall is just a really good coach and his teams just don’t make mistakes or beat themselves. And their formula of a strong defense and running game is tailor-made for the playoffs and travels well.

  2. My Senior year, Regional game vs Jimtown, it was so cold that I wore gloves (never did). Just putting your hand in the dirt made your fingers freeze up it felt like. After the first series of the game I came out and had to put my hands up to the industrial-strength heater we had (one of the ones they tell you not to touch or get too close to under any circumstances) for about 5 minutes to get the life back into them. No clue if it was 24 degrees that night but it felt like it. I think that's what I would say was my worst weather game experience.

The week before, sectional championship vs Marian, the wind was insanely strong. Like a pass couldn't even be completed strong. We ended up moving that game to Saturday. If we had played that Friday I think I would've said that's the worst weather game I had ever played in.

I think one of those DB's is Patrick Clacks though. Is that correct @scarab527? If Maxpreps is correct, he has 70 receptions for over 1,000 yards and 13 TD's. The Junior also has an assortment of D1 scholarship offers. What he makes up for in height vs. the Luers WR's is likely made up for in talent. Nonetheless, it won't be an easy night to throw the ball based on weather conditions.

Clacks has not played DB this year at all from what I've seen. No clue whether that will hold true tonight. The Andrean Secondary has done a solid job all year long up until this point, however. We'll see how they do against Nick Thompson.

I gotta say, Luers is not getting much respect round these parts. Almost every year, they are around a .500 team and almost every year they seem to be making a state title run. There is nothing that Andrean is going to do that they haven’t already seen this year. They have played much better teams with more athletes and speed. I think this will be a very good game that goes down to the wire, Luers 24 - Andrean 21

While this is true you can say the exact same for Andrean in regards to Luers. Should be a great game tonight.

I would consider the mercy rule as used in Indiana from games I have seen to be akin to Burt Reynolds for Ned Beatty's hostage situation in the movie "Deliverance."

Well... that's definitely one way to describe it.

I buy in to the idea that it's hard to beat a team twice in a season when the initial score is tight ... kind of the law of averages.  But it's just amazing the swing on some of these games.  A couple of them make sense when you look at injury reports, but some are just head-scratchers like, how did Pike Central let Washington run up 41 points in the first game and shut out their offense and then turn around and limit Washington to a single TD?

Yes, that's definitely the wildest part of it. There's a 27-point swing on average across these games. I think it just goes to show how a few plays can make a large difference in the score of a game between two evenly matched teams. If those teams play again you can then have the same effect for opposite team.

  7. I'm not sure if this has been done in previous seasons, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like John Harrell has been keeping track of all the teams that avenged a regular season loss in the playoffs. So far there have been 17 playoff rematches with a different outcome than the regular season matchup. There's the old cliché that "It's hard to beat the same team twice" and while some roll their eyes at this I've always thought there was a lot of truth to it. We saw rematches go the other way last year with BD-Brownsburg, Northridge-NorthWood, and Michigin City-Valpo, I'm sure among others. Maybe if I have time later I'll try to go through and see the percentage of how many rematches got flipped this season. Just something I thought was interesting and wanted to point out.

Same.  It just doesn't feel like a true "state championship game" to me if both participants are within 30 minutes of downtown Indy.  Maybe I am alone in that thinking.

    Go Chargers!

Agreed. Think Carroll's defense might be able to keep this one class for awhile, but I just don't see them scoring enough points to keep up with HSE.
