Hanover Central to the NCC in 2023/24
oldunclemark replied to region's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
You gotta love the eyes of the Wildcat. This is great news and the first Hanover-Lowell game (Hanover is Lowell's border neighbor to the north) will be standing room only. -
I hadn't seen her play before this year. She's good defensively at 3B and her bat is coming around. I think next year she'll probably be their shortstop. The big game now is (barring a sectional upset) Crown Point at Lake Central....for the regional title on June 1...I think the winner of that game gets to the state title game.

It was a weak choice, DT....and there are two others Wolves already in NW Indiana. I wanted the school to continue to be Hammond high as well. (and as you know, 'Bulldogs' is taken. I just wanted to send you a couple of photos of someone you may know. The battle for softball supremacy in Lake County goes on!)

He's got to go to Denver and battle Patrick Mahomes 3 times every year.... ...all-time NFL TV ratings for the 'State Farm showdowns' 👍

Should something be done to fix 6A?
oldunclemark replied to Bears62's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Lets wait 20 years and revisit 7A... 8 years is nothing, really. -

Help me here. Valparaiso went to the 2019 5A finals and the 2020 5A semistate. Valpo moves up to 6A, right? -

If Merrillville is 5A, that's a major, major change. Portage, Chesterton, Crown Point and Lake Central do NOT have to beat Merrillville just to get out of the sectional.? That's sunshine on a rainy day. -
Buzea to Crown Point

I'm reading that River Forest coach Joe O'Connell has resigned.............. To become the 'passing game coordinator' at Crown Point. I like it. -

True, I reversed the scores....H-F won on March 19 and lost on March 26. Thanks for the update -

Big win last Friday, though. 31-0 over Lockport. Lincoln Way is a monster in Illinois. -
Bob, Then allow defenders to face mask offensive players because while I am not on the playing field like you, I watch games only from the sidelines and I can honestly say that I have never seen a player injured (that I knew of) from a defender grabbing an offensive player's facemask. Have you? Its just the cumulative affect of hitting someone in the head. If its bad for the offensive player, its just as bad for the defensive player. And offensive players grab the defender's facemask all the time. It just isnt called if they let go quickly.. Like I said. In another era, you could pull the head gear off an offensive player and it wasn't a foul. Rules change.
-
But Bob, the question still stands. A strike to the head that, I might agree, hurts the neck more than the head.? Its dangerous under any definition. Why is it legal for an offensive player to do that?. Its taught. Its cheered. But a defensive player cannot do basically the same thing by grabbing the facemask. Linemen who jack up the heads of the offensive linemen on the pass rush get the yellow flag. You see it up close where the running back goes straight to the head of the defender and jacks his head back. Stiff are the shoulder pad. Stiff are his chest. The stiff arm to the head is not anywhere near safe. That rule must change.
-
I would not allow offensive players to stiff arm defensive players in the head. If face masking is a violation for the defense because the 'strike' of the hand to the head isnt safe, then there's no way on earth a running back stiff arming a defender above the neck or punching him open-handed in the mask is safe. This is one of those archaic rules of football that should have been changed long time ago. Ripping the other guys helmet off used to be legal, too. 🙁

In 2019, Andrean senior Johnny Carrothers started for the 59ers, who won the Class 2A state boys baskteball championship. His sister Jessica Carrothers starts for 4A No. 2 Crown Point in the 2021 girls state playoffs. The question? Has a brother and sister, playing for two different schools, ever reached the championship game of Indiana basketball? Does anybody know?

How we fix Northern 6A football
oldunclemark replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
You are right, FB....It is just Indy...where the most affluent and largest schools exist. More power to 'em Its the private school- public school debate. There's a reason Bishop Chatard has won 15 state titles and 100 other public 3A or 4A schools have none. -
I dont understand the negative connotation of the word Crusader.... Just because a group adopts your name does not make it controversial or neagtive. What about the name Patriots?
