  1. You can bet Cathedral and Center Grove will be playing all our studs in Week 9 if we can both stay healthy. And, I think the fans might want a full power slobber knocker more than even the players. But, Cathedral has two more nasty Cincy GCL foes the next two weeks (La Salle, Elder) and a let-down game with Brebeuf before we even think about Center Grove. If either Cathedral or Center Grove lose before Week 9, it could diminish that game. It was personally circled before the season even started for most Cathedral and CG faithful. We have many more weeks to discuss the possibilities of that game. Until then, stay healthy Irish and Trojans! And Go Irish tonight! Beat the Lancers!
  2. Roncalli travels to East Central for the last game of the regular season. The winner of that game will be my choice out of the South for 4A. I’m betting on East Central. They gave Chatard all they could handle at Chatard.
  3. We have 41 juniors and 8 seniors. Big skill players losses in QB, RB1, WR1, 2DL, 1 S. This senior class was Coach Peebles’ first freshmen class. Entire O Line will be back. NFL prospect TE. Best slot receiver in the state. D1 Kicker. And, a nasty linebacking crew all return. We are not halfway to a title run this year, so let’s not put the cart before the horse. Much work to do starting with an underrated LaSalle team at Arlington on Friday.
  4. Close. Horseshoes and hand grenades. A pissed off Elder awaits a stretch W for Cathedral next Friday. Supremely worried about LaSalle.
  5. Alright DT, I’ll give you some love. Biggest test of the season? Pretty sure that was Week 1 and it was running clock at half. Interested to see a comparative score though...
  6. I agree, but MaxPreps doesn't this week: https://www.maxpreps.com/news/4-N4POjr4UyawPbhjnwNZw/indiana-high-school-football-rankings--cathedral-takes-over-at-no-1.htm
  7. Irish welcome another nationally ranked Ohio GCL team to Indianapolis this Friday. Pre-season #1 in Ohio in the Greater Catholic League South (Tri-State), the Lancers return a ton of senior talent including 4 DBs with D1 offers including Alabama. Should be a fantastic match-up with Cathedral’s new air attack led my Indiana’s 3rd leading passer in Nathan McCahill and Cathedral’s soon-to-be receiving leader in Cam Jordan. The real advantage for the Irish should come in the ground game as CHS’s O-Line continues to emerge. Speaking of emerging, the Irish junior linebacking core has been awesome the last couple weeks. Aided by a dominant front 3, Irish D held a potent St. X offense to 2 scores last week. Appears highly recruited RB Gi’bran Payne and super mobile QB Zach Branam are a bit dinged up, but looks like they both are playing Friday. Scouting report here (minus a Jaylen Norwood departure): https://tristatefootball.com/2020/05/2020-snapshot-la-salle/
  8. Yeah. Stephen Holman. Kid was a freak. USA Today National Champ. Cathedral lost a heartbreaker to Dwenger in the Finals, but lost by 30 to that “91 BD team. Both lines were nasty.
  9. Love it. Definitely will be big underdogs in that one. Two monster challenges for the Irish upcoming the next two weeks with Cincy Lasalle and Elder. If Cathedral can scrape by, both schools should be Top20 in the country for that showdown. Hate to look ahead, but looks saucy. Praying for a lift on crowd restrictions by then too. The shamdemic is over.
  10. Grass is the new homefield advantage. Oh, and wait for the first rain game in that west end zone. Swamp-tastic. Will be heaven for our big uglies the next two seasons. i still think Louisville Trinity is scratching their heads from their Arlington beatdown last year. Those kids hadn’t seen grass before.
  11. The Irish were dealt some adversity last night and responded. Losing the turnover battle to an excellent team rarely goes the right way. Yet, these Irish dug deep. The Irish defense won the game for us last night. A timely interception and some clutch stops deep in Irish territory were the difference makers. There were certainly a bevy of mistakes to end the half to let the Bombers back in to the game at 15-15. However, Irish D clamped down to hold St. X to one second half score. The Irish kicker is a real weapon. Ben Gomez has some great range knocking down I believe a 34 yard field goal that was good from 50 and on the left hashmark. Nathan McCahill had his first pedestrian outing breaking his 300yd passing streak, but his feet did the talking on a couple crucial 3rd downs. Cam Jordan is 2 touchdowns away from breaking Cathedral’s career receiving TD record. Onward in the gauntlet to nationally-ranked Cincinnati LaSalle at Arlington next Friday.
  12. Yes. Had some great chats with the Elder faithful at The Pit parking lot last year about this. Kyle Rudolph’s parents were very complimentary of our budding rivalries with the GCL. St. X might not view Cathedral as formidable since they are 17-2 against us, but out games are always close. Even our home/away with St. Ed’s two years ago was a great success. Elder/Moeller/Lasalle have had great games with the Irish and really the Top Tier 6A publics. Bottom line is the GCL gets the same P/P scorn as the the Indy Catholics. We appreciate the chance to compete with each other. We make each other stronger for the tourney series. #inthistogether
  13. Any St. X fans arriving to Indianapolis early, please stop by the Irish tailgate immediately south of the school in the strip mall parking lot. We would love to share a beverage with any and all Bomber fans! Look for the big red Prevost bus with the Cathedral flag flying. Let’s have a great game!!
  14. MaxPreps has these two teams listed as #2 in Ohio and #3 in Indiana. St. X’s lone loss was to Brownsburg in the barnburner ESPN national game of the week to start off the season. St. X has always had Cathedral’s number. Can the fighting Irish shake off the St. X jinx this year? Would love to hear from Brownsburg fans who to watch from the Bombers. St. X Scouting Report from Yappi: St. Xavier Steve Specht lost the GCL-South's top passer as Matthew Rueve has moved on to Boston College after throwing for 3,126 yards and 28 scores in new offensive coordinator Andrew Coverdale's passing game. But, the "long blue line" continues and the Bombers have Penn State commit Liam Clifford returning for his senior season after catching 77 balls for 1,180 yards and 17 scores. From the looks of last week's scrimmage vs. Lakota West, St. Xavier again has an able passer as Brogan McCaughey threw a couple scoring passes against Lakota West. The Bombers were 9-3 last season, falling short in a second-round playoff game to eventual DI state runner-up Elder. Early indications are the Bombers will be in the hunt again. "Liam Clifford is a special talent and he's done a great job in a leadership role," Specht said. "Liam's just one of many seniors that are going to make an impact again this year. We have a great nucleus to build around. Now the young guys need to measure up what the expectation is here. We'll get after them and we'll find 11 guys to put on the field. I like this group of kids." Players to watch: Clifford is multi-talented and may even get an occasional look at safety if situations warrant, according to Specht. He spent the spring/summer catching passes from his brother, Penn State starting quarterback Sean Clifford. Junior Luke Vrsansky is the top returning rusher. Senior Jalen Patterson is also a receiving threat along with sophomore tight end Joey Wassler and defensive back Gabriel DuBois is a playmaker.
  15. Do you even exist, PHJ? If someone knew you, we might be able to get you tickets or scores. Your anonymity precludes you from the spoils. J/V Irish 23 Chatard 14 Freshmen Irish 17 Chatard 34. Irish up 10-7 at half.
  16. Irish win 14 of 16 Games from the Trojans. Good 2nd half, Trojans. Onward to St. X. They whipped Elder tonight. 38 Bombers 24 Elder. Lets see how we roll against the GCL. St. X stole one from us last year. We have unfinished business.
  17. Match-up of the night: Cam Jordan (Irish WR) vs. Brady Kinnett (Trojan DB). Runner-up: Joe Calvert/Babcock (Trojan ILB/NT) vs Chris Farah/Will Sizemore (Irish OGs). 3 hours. LFG!
  18. Assume this isn’t a Chatard guy. I can’t wait to see who BCHS D-Coordinator decides to key on. Page might be one of the better slot receivers in the state. Wooten is a 6’3, 255lb TE. Etc. I’m hoping the Cathedral D is the difference maker. Love our junior LBs - Huddy, Goheen, Utzinger. And our rassler captain Guuuuuhl. It will be a typical, ugly rivalry battle and I can’t wait. Praying for an injury free game. See you all at 4:30p tomorrow at KofC. First Fireball is on me. Go Irish.
  19. Oh, this will be a close one. Chatard is littered with seniors. And their defense has some of CYO’s finest from that senior class (Kinnett, Calvert, Haslett) to name a few, even if they are St. Pius lads. The real problem for the Trojans is how much these guys play both ways. I don’t think there is enough depth to platoon. If any of the above defenders go both ways, they are in trouble. Hopefully the Irish blast the run game to start this one. Our OLine is emerging and we can run down these very talented Trojan backers.
  20. This is a rivalry game. These kids know each other extremely well. I would expect a much closer game than the previous 3 weeks. Chatard is also on a 14 game win streak dating back to last season’s loss to the Irish at Arlington. i sure would have liked to see a different, larger venue for this game to give our fans a glimpse of this outside of parents. It isn’t like there is a big homefield advantage with extremely limited fans. Most of the Cathedral players grew up playing CYO ball on this field. In fact, I would guess Cathedral players have played more football games on Chatard’s field through jamborees and playoffs than any other field in their careers. I’ve personally coached over 10 CYO games with these Cathedral players at Chatard myself. Would be an interesting survey. if the game isn’t televised, you can always hear it broadcast on the local dial at 1260 The Fan or via the same channel through the IHeartRadio app.
  21. https://www.southbendtribune.com/sports/high_school/football/top-ranked-indianapolis-cathedral-too-much-for-penn/article_7b1dbdae-ee57-11ea-8f13-83a12f1c6c1e.html Irish roll on. Chatard Week. Get ready, Trojans. Your 14 game win streak is at stake and your mom is ugly.
