  1. The first battle of these two great Indiana programs. It will be Cathedral’s 161st new opponent. Can emerging Mr. Football candidate Nathan McCahill match the touted Ron Powlus, Jr. In a QB shootout? Are there any other Penn defensive standouts that match up with any of the Irish skill players or O-line? Excited to travel to Mishawaka! Irish Express will be there most likely in the student lot. Look for the Cathedral flag. With our storied rasslin’ heritage, I’ll expect Henry Wilk and Coach Harper to swing by for a Chick-Fil-A and a beverage pre-game. Go Irish!
  2. Valpo and Cathedral will have a like opponent after this weekend’s Penn match-up. Stay tuned.
  3. I’ve long contended the 2000 Cathedral offensive line was the best the state has ever had. They set the single season rushing record that held for 15 years with Otis Shannon. That O-line had 5 D1 players and 2 NFL guys on it: TE Mathias Kiwanuka (BC/NY Giants), LT Jeremy Trueblood (BC/Tampa Bay Bucs), LG Rufus Sanders (Western Kentucky), C Andrew Loehrer, RG Joe Byrne (Indiana St.), and RT Matt Hasbrook (Notre Dame). They also won 3 IHSAA titles in 4A. This year’s line has very similar talent, but plenty left to prove. I believe we have two NFL potentials in TE Brennan Wooten and LT Owen Wood. But, I also know we have at least 2 other firm D1 guys in RG Chris Farah and RT Cooper Koers. And, the real beauty is these guys are all juniors. This junior class is extremely special by our standards. They had the most insane freshmen schedule you could assemble and came out undefeated. Other than 1 TD victories at the Pit at Cincy Elder and a barnburner finale with Center Grove, they beat up the best teams in the Midwest. 38 juniors from that team are still part of this year’s Irish team. The future is bright.
  4. Another fantastic performance for the Irish. The defense started a little slow the first two series and much credit given to an enormous Carmel O-Line, but the D tightened up nicely. Zane Hill had some nice stops in the first half. No huge defensive standouts in my mind. It was a true 11 Gold experience. Where do you begin offensively? The 3rd quarter breakout was as good of a performance in one quarter as I can remember. Cathedral took their first teams out with 10:20 in the 4th up 41-13. At that point, we had 557 total yards to Carmel’s 162. And, by the way, i absolutely love the Carmel statistician that tracks that real-time. The jock from Sr. Roch, McCahill, proves that he is an all-around player. His passes are crisp and accurate, but his field presence is his biggest asset. Spreading the rock to 8 different receivers and using his feet when he had to. The real MVP and the growing story is the Offensive Line. The protection was fantastic and they wore down the Greyhounds. Even with OT Cooper Koers out for the last 1.5 quarters w cramps/ankle, they delivered amazimg holes for our very strong and quick RBs Jake Langdon and Seth “don’t call me Spencer” Mencer. Also a shout out to kickers from both schools, all three kicks (2 from Carmel and 1 from CHS’s Ben Gomez) would have likely been good from 50 yards. 3 absolute accurate bombs by these boys. Can’t wait to travel to Penn for the first meeting of these two storied programs. It will be Cathedral’s 161st new opponent. See you in South Bend.
  5. Cathedral is full schedule and in-person and has been since August 17th. Also, as of today, August 28th, the 3234 Indiana deaths out of 6.7mm Hoosiers puts the death rate at 0.0004. Further, of these deaths, less than .01 percent are coded as Hoosiers under age 19. Source: In.gov/covid
  6. Last’s year 6A Champs vs. the Fighting Irish. Can the Irish match the depth of the state’s biggest school? What are the match-ups? IndyStar is advocating for the Carmel D and their assault on Plainfield last week. Should be an interesting test to the Cathedral O-Line and Jake Langdon and the jock from St. Roch. Can they run the damn ball against the stout Greyhounds D? Or will the aerial game feed the fellas again. Who you defending, Greyhounds? Irish Express will be in the lot by 5:30pm. Anyone from Carmel is welcome to come catch up before the game for some chicken and beverages. #cate #pendoski
  7. Outside of Brebeuf, the Irish are ‘Rona’ing the hellll out of the schedule. Lets go Valpo. We see your Penn score. #kelseys #northsidetap #IN-2 #UrschelLabs #coachCook #keystonecommons #letsgo
  8. Also, both OTs Owen Wood and Cooper Koers were dominant neutralizing Alabama recruit Popeye Williams.
  9. Hopefully senior QB Nathan McCahill, the jock from St. Roch, gets some notice. He was spectacular last night. Runner-up MVP was OLB Jeffrey Utzinger. He couldnt have looked any more identical to our very own Ohio State rock star, Pete Werner, last night.
  10. We’ll have the Irish Express in the parking lot by 5:30pm. Anyone from Westfield is welcome to stop by for a beverage. We love hanging out with the Home Team before games. Look for the Cathedral flag flying over the red bus. Absolutely thrilled for a small return to normality. Let’s have a great game! Go Irish!
  11. Funny. You're assuming I haven't already outworked you for your lifetime. As Drake would say, "started from the bottom, now we here." Feel free to make as many personal digs as you want though. It won't ever change the fact that Chatard will always be the bridesmaid on the Northside.
  12. Ahh, young one. As LL Cool J would say, “I’ve been here for years”.
  13. So many excuses, Little Bro. I wouldn’t trade our state title numbers for your 3A title numbers ever. We both know if you had to go through Cathedral or Roncalli in half of those title runs, you wouldn’t have 1/3 of dem rings. It’s kinda like J/V state. You have the same access Cathedral does. You have half of the IndyWest Deanery on your roster this year. So, don’t poor mouth your Chatard Recruiting ability...
  14. Actually brilliant. I wrote my original post standing waist-deep in the clear, blue, natural waters of Lake Wawa. Hopefully CHS - Penn happens so we can pre-game at the Frog with all the “old money” dive bar Cathedral parents and fans in Syracuse. Speaking of the Frog, I frequently bump into the Northwood coach. If Rona swipes the Penn - Cathedral game, my Amish friends are ready for the challenge. And the word in the street is Northwood is stacked this season.
  15. I think it is 18-2 Cathedral in the last 20. @Lysander Correct me if I’m wrong.
  16. Lots of excuses here @Lysander. Since you are coronating Chatard as “the Northside P/P power“, don’t you think it would be wise to share the heads-up record between Cathedral and Chatard the last 20 years? Also, when you strip out the Martin brothers from Chatard’s resume, you guys are pretty pedestrian with your linemen. The Irish have as many NFL lineman and have at least 1 more heading to the league next year (Alabama’s starting RG and CHS grad Emil Okifor). And, in my opinion, we have 2 more NFL prospects on this year’s incredibly stacked O-Line (Owen Wood, Junior Left Tackle) and Brenden Wooten (Sophomore TE phenom). Cathedral’s O-Line has to be the top in the state this year and only 1 senior on it. Keep an eye out.
