Couple things: 1. Yes, we’ll take any and all kids from the Indy or Lafayette archdioceses, especially kids from St. Jude. And, guess what, so will Roncalli. Chatard has more St.Michael kids on their roster than Cathedral does. Facts of Northside Catholicism. Be thankful you don’t have to deal with any other high school or archdiocese. Hope someone starts one down there, so actually have to work for the kids. The Lafayette Archdiocese locks Chatard and Cathedral out from all their grade school kids, which is half of the Northside Catholics. Roncalli, on the other hand, has no competition. That is why is has been such an embarrassment for you the last 8-10 years while your program flailed. With 8 captive feeder schools. 2. I’m on the enrollment committee of CHS. I can guarantee that no one has a free ride there. We market accordingly for Sharmrock Scholars to attract diversity (race, religion, and academics). And, we do our best to get close in the most dire situations. But every kid pays something. It is part of our philosophy. I.E. If your parents made you pay for a part of college, you certainly worked for better grades. Same goes. Less than 33% of our population gets aid, so you can back those numbers out as much as you want. I will say it is good to see Roncalli back! Finally, the Rebel grads are rearing with new confidence. State-gilded with a new championship and feeling their oats on the GID. Since you have a great new coach, maybe he’ll schedule Cathedral again since you dropped us 6 years ago and have wanted nothing to do with us. Come and get it.

Heartbreaking and one of the better 3A finals games in history. After a see-saw battle and 4 lead changes, Cathedral had the ball with under 2 minutes to go and the score tied in our our territory. We ran a pretty good option on that team. On a QB keeper, Dwenger LB and future NFL vet Kevin Fabini had a perfect helmet hit on the ball knocking it 5 feet in the air into Dwenger LB Kevin Caretta (Notre Dame) hands for an fumble and score. One of the most heartwrenching losses in CHS history. These days Dwenger’s QB, Chris Dittoe (Indiana), has a son on the Cathedral team with a few other Cathedral graduates’ kids from that ‘91 classic. That was Dwenger’s 2nd title in as many years and Cathedral went on to start our run of state championships the following year in 1992 with a beat down of Northwestern.

Since you aren’t well informed about private schools, let me help you. You insinuate that private schools don’t have “feeder schools” like Roncalli has with basic exclusivity with Jude, Mark, Roch, Barnabas, Nativity, and Francis/Clare. False. The only difference in Cathedral’s case is we have to share the pool with two other major Catholic high schools over two different archdiocese. We have the same “feeder schools” as you. The kids play their CYO ball on our campus. Etc. Cathedral had 18 of 22 starters that played in the CYO on this title team. But, let’s take Cathedral out of the mix since you mentioned Park Tudor and Lutheran too. I can assure you that Park Tudor gets almost every student from their two “feeder schools” of Orchard and Park Tudor Middle School. Last year, Park Tudor got 4 St. Luke kids also, but that is an anomaly. To suggest they pull from all over the city is just fiction. I’m sure the list goes on, but here are two examples. This is completely false and laughable. I can only speak to Cathedral on this slight, but there isn’t a single kid that goes to Cathedral “for free” unless they are the child of a teacher with tenure. Cathedral has the same SGO rules that Roncalli, Chatard, Scecina, and Ritter do. Parents still decide which package is better for them between SGO or financial aid. The real disadvantage Cathedral has is it gets ZERO dollars from the archdiocese like Roncalli does to fund this financial aid. We have to fundraise it every single year. Every year. So, to imply there is some sort of parochial disadvantage to a private is completely irresponsible. In fact, this entire topic is a complete boondoggle. Trying to find one thing accurate about it as I re-read it.

Indeed. Grinding our arses off to make these Cathedral squads. As of now, my oldest has 3 rings as a “role player” w minimal playing time as a junior in two sports. He understands capitalism now and we’re confident he gets his run next year. It’s why I sacrifice to send him there. We’re very thankful for our Cathedral experience. Great families and heritage. Great habits. Great understanding of preparation and expectations. Been bliss the last couple days. I have many other thoughts on this topic though. I think the original post is complete dogsheet. I’ll expound later. Seems like a dig by a Roncalli guy on privates. Roncalli is absolutely not different than Cathedral other than they get archdiocese $ and have absolutely no competition for Catholic kids on the Southside.

As for no D1 players, Cathedral will have plenty. We had only 7 seniors on this starting team, so this is a very junior laden squad. Jake Langdon has a scholarship and will attend Columbia. Power5 D1 scholarships coming next year for Owen Wood (LT), Cooper Koers (RT), Jeff Utzinger (OLB), Brennan Wooten (TE - Sophomore), Kendrick Gilbert (DT - Sophomore). D1 Scholarships coming next year for Chris Farah (OG), Huddy Miller (ILB), Jack Goheen (ILB), Michael Page (WR), Bryce Llewelyn (DB), and Parker Spellacy (TE). Maybe a couple others, but these guys are a lock in my opinion. PS. It was incredible to watch CHS’s Terry McLaurin run down Ft. Wayne Luers Jaylon Smith on that Thanksgiving day pick! Indiana should be proud!

Few clarifications on Cathedral’s roster: Nathan McCahill attended Cathedral and played freshmen ball before transferring to CG for one year. He then came back and attended CHS for junior and senior years. He was a CYO kid from St. Roch. Re: all of Marion County recruiting - we have kids from over 50 middle schools in the halls of CHS. So, yes, we absolutely need to advertise across the whole town to keep our enrollment numbers up. At $15,500/annual, it is no small task getting parents to commit to that. But, by my count, there were only 3 football starters that didn’t play in the CYO. Look no farther than the CYO for dominance of the P/Ps in Cathedral, Chatard, and Roncalli. It has little to do with enrollment.

Agree. The winner is the IHSAA for having fortitude and for setting the bar for all states. They had an end game in mind despite the bullsheet. Proud to be a Hoosier and proud we accomplished a 13 game season with a state championship series. Indiana wins. So damn proud of this state.

McCahill will end up with 3000yds passing, 1000yds rushing, and 50 TDS. Have a hard time saying Steele is a lock in this voting.

Nathan McCahill’s stats are pretty gaudy considering the strength of schedule the Irish played this year. These are his numbers before last night’s Semi-State victory over Castle: 2687 yards passing, 34TDs, 3 INT 842 yards rushing, 10 TDS 12-1 versus State Finalists: Westfield, Chatard, Center Grove, Cincy Lasalle and OH Large School Champ St. X.

7 Hours of travel for likely a 90 minute game. I imagine only parents are that committed for this one. That said, I believe a couple busses of parents are making the trek.

For what it’s worth, Lawrence Central won 6A and Cathedral won 5A in 2012. They are about a mile apart.
