The general public isn't as smart as you and doesn't have a clue about Sagarin. They see the 4A/5A next to Dwenger/Snider's name and assume a 6A school should run over them with ease...even a close win has a negative public perception to those who only check the box score or scratch the surface of the sport. And I agree...I love the matchups and hope its a long term thing.

Indiana's premier athletic conference (yeah I said it) kicks off this weekend with some solid matchups. Brownsburg @ Fort Wayne Dwenger: As I said about Snider/Warren, this feels like an everything to lose game for Brownsburg. I have been as critical of the Bulldogs as anyone as their inability to get over the postseason hump is well documented. Word on the street from GID members is that this is not a typical Dwenger outfit. Taking their word for it, I expect Brownsburg to roll and have a long/happy bus ride home. Gimme the 'Dogs 38-17. Carroll (Fort Wayne) @ Hamilton Southeastern: A great rematch and early season litmus test for two teams with their sights set on Lucas Oil. I like both of these teams' chances of being alive late and this being the first of two matchups if the dominoes fall in the correct way. As for this one, I am going to take HSE at home in a revenge game, 24-16. Franklin Central @ Perry Meridian: No team has ridden a close loss to higher preseason expectations than FC. They narrowly missed shocking the state last year as they had eventual state champion Center Grove sweating late. I expect the Flashes to continue to improve and give them a puncher's chance of finishing above .500 which is no small feat with their schedule. If that is the case, they have to get this one...and they will. Franklin Central wins 41-17. Lawrence North @ Avon: New leadership at Avon attempting to get the Orioles back to respectability. Don't know a ton about either team heading into the season honestly. Gonna pick defensively here as Mallory's program is more established. A nail biter though. LN 30-27. New Palestine @ Westfield: This one was a shocker last season and gave me high hopes for New Pal but they could not get the job done. I think Westfield is the better/deeper team this time though I expect New Pal to last longer in the tournament. Gimme the 'Rocks 27-17. Noblesville vs Mt. Vernon (Fortville) @ LOS: Keep waiting on Noblesville to break through as they have taken this matchup against solid Mt. Vernon teams the last two seasons only to get worked over the rest of the way. I am going to take them again as it is sort of now or never with the Millers, especially considering their recent investment in the sport. Noblesville wins 30-24. North Central (Indianapolis) @ Fishers: I think NC has the right guy but it is also going to take time. Fishers is a fringe top ten team (and possibly more) in my opinion. Tigers roll 41-17. Pike @ Zionsville: I think both teams have a lot to prove and like LN/Avon I need to see some results before picking with confidence. Gimme the Eagles at home 24-20. What say you?

Aren’t the Penn players also slower as a result or are they playing on turf while BD/Warren is playing the same game on grass? I’m so confused here. Let’s say you and I race 100 meters on flat ground and you beat me by 2 seconds..then we repeat the race a day later but run 100 meters up a 2% incline would I suddenly be within less than a second or would the margin still be the same?

Do we have proof he is lying or are you just going with the mainstream media's take? The rules surrounding official visits/dead periods/etc. during Covid were extremely fuzzy and ever changing. Once again, he (nor Michigan) hosted any official visits during that period per campus rules and those families were in town on their own dime. That HAS to play a factor here. I'm torn on whether or not he is actually lying. He may admit to the violation in hindsight but Jim is a quirky dude. I am not even sure he knew AT THE TIME he was committing a violation. Knowing what he knows now, maybe he admitted to the suspension after the fact that he committed a violation was revealed. He is standing on principle here and playing the whataboutism game (which is dangerous as I play it too) and as you mentioned it may cost him.

Plus Carmel/Center Grove... Ben Davis @ Cincinnati Moeller: A couple of good litmus tests for Indiana schools this weekend as BD takes on OH #2 Archbishop Moeller. Won't pretend to know a lot about our friends from the Buckeye state but know they are uber talented, led by Michigan RB commit Jordan Marshall and have talent across the field. I think they are slightly more talented than BD and have homefield advantage so it is tough to pick against them. BD's depth keeps it close but gimme the home team. Moeller wins 23-17. Carmel @ Homestead: Relying heavily on my Fort Wayne brethren on the board as many have indicated it may be a rebuilding year for the Spartans. Not an easy bus ride for the 'Hounds but I think they win going away. Carmel 30-14. Center Grove @ St. Edward's (OH) (Saturday): Wish I could get to see this one and would once again love to see how Hoosier squads stack up as two heavyweights take the field in northeast Ohio. Not technically a road game for CG but might as well be. Think St. Ed's is simply too much in the trenches and think they are gonna roll. The Trojans could likely be more competitive were this one later in the season but too much unproven talent for this guy to pick them. Even a close loss here is respectable but I don't see it. Hope I am wrong. Ed's wins 34-20. Fort Wayne Snider @ Warren Central: This one is intriguing to me as a true litmus test for both teams. If Snider can make the long bus ride and keep this one close, 5A needs to be on high alert. This seems like a lose/lose for Warren as there prestige (likely unfairly) sets high expectations when playing a 5A program. I think the Panthers keep it close but Warren wears them down. Tennessee didn't even LAND many of those who they supposedly gave out bags of cash to...so what does that tell you about what goes on in the southeast? They LOST a bidding war and because they admitted it, got a slap on the wrist. Pruitt's on-field performance also played a role in his firing too so lets not pretend that was some sort of honorable separation. I'll admit my bias but Harbaugh has been squeaky clean every where he has coached. The "dead period" logistics were changing on the fly during Covid and many families paid their own way to go to Ann Arbor lead by the family of the current starting quarterback. Michigan/Harbaugh were not HOSTING any official recruiting visits as that was the procedure/rule. I'll go ahead and enjoy the 2023 season as it has the potential to be the best in program history and I will worry about any future nonsense next spring. (Side note, the culture at Michigan is better than it has ever been and Jim has said that he has 10 future head coaches currently on staff...so in the event of any potential lengthy suspension, the Wolverines would be in good hands.) I think I know the "majority" you are speaking of but it is still pretty dangerous to paint with a broad brush. I see my program's flaws and actually spar with fellow Wolverine fans frequently.

I will concede that point but I am not going to sit here and carry water for the NCAA...if Tennessee and others did not get "blood" as @Footballking16 refers to it, I think the spineless NCAA will fold here. Tom Mars doesn't lose often. Also, do we live in a world where fast food bags full of cash being handed out (as long as you are honest about it) gets a slap on the wrist whereas "lying" about contact during a COVID dead period in which rules were changing by the minute (Harbaugh has yet to concede that he lied by the way) gets throttled? They expected him to bend over and grab his ankles without a shred of evidence.
