Urban Meyer wants $12M, Jacksonville Jags could be top target
temptation replied to a topic in The Next Level
Not sure "thug coach" is the appropriate term for Meyer at OSU, but he thrived under two administrations (Florida and OSU) that gave him free reign and power with little/no consequences. Hell, Gene Smith (AD) and Gordon Gee (university president) bowed down to the man and Smith was even quoted as saying "I hope Urban doesn't fire me" when asked about Meyer's future during the Zach Smith debacle. Anyone who thinks Meyer left Florida or OSU due to his stated reasoning of "health problems" and "wanting to spend more time with his family" is delusional. The guy is a liar whose practices are well documented but he escapes all criticism for one reason: HE WINS. THAT is why he is featured on BTN/Fox. People value the opinion of a coach with championship experience/a pedigree and character does not count. Simply put: He left OSU "mutually" to maintain some sort of integrity but the university simply did not back him on the Smith incident. They gave him the bare minimum punishment (whether you think he was guilty of anything or not) to make the public think they were taking a stand. The guy is a low character individual. There are many documented cases and stories of it everywhere he has been. Like Saban, when he has superior talent and the playing field is not level, he thrives. In the NFL, everyone plays by the same rules. I don't think his "schtick" would work with grown men. -

You've spoken with all 16 athletic departments in determining their "satisfaction" I assume? Or is this just your opinion? Do tell. -

Thought he had "health issues" and wanted to "spend more time with his family?" Ah, coach speak... -
So much non-sense to unpack here but I will do my best. 1. The ND/Clemson debate was common sense and I was proven correct in the ACC title game my friend. That was ONE sided. Clemson was down SIX starters in that regular season game against ND and still nearly pulled off the win. 2. I guess my IQ is 84.9 because Elijah Moore (Ole Miss' best WR) is considered an early round NFL draft pick and did not play. He was an All-SEC receiver and had nearly 1200 yards receiving. Their TE amassed 500 receiving yards this season and also opted out. They also played without their top RB. 3. The Penix/Lawrence comparison is laughable. I am not even going to entertain it. 4. You are SERIOUSLY arguing that the Big Ten was "up" because Ohio State carried the water for the conference again? PSU and Michigan are more talented than IU yet the Lions were playing their 3rd-4th string running back all season and Michigan was trotting true freshmen and walk ons out there for much of the season. Wisconsin was a shell of itself. You are once again trying to use the margin of defeat against OSU as a measuring stick to compare Indiana/Northwestern/Penn State to CLEMSON? You need your head examined. Once again, be satisfied in the fact that IU was 6-2 this season. It's one hell of an accomplishment. But they were beaten by a sub .500 team from the SEC who was without three main cogs on offense. The ONE chance you have to PROVE that you deserved better was on the field and the Hoosiers failed to do so.

Iowa State seemed to do just fine...

Florida didn’t show up the moment they lost the SEC title game. Nearly half of their team opted out. Not excusing it, but the Cotton Bowl doesn’t mean as much to Florida as the Outback Bowl should have meant to Indiana.
-
Results don’t lie. Iowa State proved they belonged by showing up ON THE FIELD. You can’t whine for two weeks, make some bogus statement by refusing to wear the conference patch and then fail to show up when you get the chance to prove you deserved better. They are who we thought they were.

Ryan Day disagrees.

December 20th: “IU will be SUPER motivated to prove everyone wrong after being snubbed for a NY6 bowl.” January 3rd: “IU was in a no win position and unmotivated because they had nothing to gain from beating a sub .500 team.”
-
Here is the problem with one-sided "speculation..." It fails to take into account that there were two teams playing in the game and that the other team was also missing key players, including their All-American WR and their tight end. Those two alone combined for over 1700 yards receiving this season. Just accept the fact that you were wrong. IU was in the correct bowl game and benefitted from a weak Big Ten in 2020. You'd have taken 6-2 in a heart beat back in October.

How many days until the season starts? -
OSU turns it on when needed. That is now a proven fact Hoosier fans. Let’s stop with thinking the margin of victory of that game was any indication of the gap between the two programs. OSU dropped 49 on Clemson folks...49.

GTFO. They were a paper tiger. 6-1 with no significant wins. A mid tier SEC team.

Any grown human being (Kirby Smart) that needs another grown human being to grab them by the waist of their pants to keep them off of the playing field is a douche...that is all.

You know how these things go my man.

He will never play D1 football again. Last Chance U...

“It was a primarily peaceful scuffle.”

Leach seemed very blasé about it in his post game interview. Almost had a “eh, it’s football. It happens” type of tone.

Their profile will fit nicely within the MIC by the middle of this decade, much more so than within the HCC. They aren’t competing at a high level in anything currently and will at least compete for non-revenue championships were they to join the MIC.

How long ago? Fastest growing district in Marion County. Just sold their soul to bring in elite football/basketball coaches. Great facilities. Football may be the last thing they are able to compete in with the other MIC schools but there are 19 other sports to consider and FC could hold their own, be near the top of the MIC in many of those. What’s the difference in being last in either conference in football? Betting things have changed since you’ve been there...and will continue to.
-
Not long term. FC is a sleeping giant if their athletic administration is patient. Give them 5-6 years. Their most recent coaching acquisitions in the two major sports prove they are “all in.”

Kids at BD and Warren need positive male role models in their lives more so than ever/any district in Indiana. The comparison does not work from a “choosing where to play football” standpoint as most kids attend the district in which they live. However, many of these kids would run through a wall for their COACHES, not their school. Most college football players commit to a COACH, not a school. While I don’t recommend this method and it has backfired on many, it’s a fact of life. If I were a young player at BD, MV or Warren, I’d be pretty damn skeptical of the next guy coming in as many adults (in their home lives as well as in education/athletics) are making promises they just can’t keep anymore.

Tom Allen...national runner up for AP Coach of the Year. Well deserved.
