IHSAA 8 Man Football Proposal
gahoosierfan replied to gahoosierfan's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I sure hope this is true. -
I would love to hear some thoughts on the 8 man proposal. It basically states that any school under 300 students could opt for 8 man football. They would require at least 16 teams statewide to be able to do this. I wonder if this would prompt any small schools to start a football program. I know in SW Indiana there are several schools that don't currently play football. Some that come to mind are South Knox, Loogootee, Bloomfield, Shakamak, NE Dubois, White River Valley, Clay City, Orleans, and others. Also Wood Memorial suspended their team a couple of years ago. It seems like that most of these schools could get at least 15 or 16 boys to come out for varsity play. I know there are start up costs, but if there is a will to do it, it could happen.

It is very poorly done. It looks like to amateur created it.

I am always disappointed when I go to the IHSAA website. I have visited many state high school websites and I have to say ours is by far the worst. Go visit Kentucky and Illinois websites. Kentucky's is a 10 and Indiana's is a 2. It has been really bad forever. I wonder why they can't be bothered to create a new one. But then again it is the IHSAA.

The Hammond Central Wolves? Say it aint so Joe

What you are saying is that all the students coming from Gavit and Clark should just forget their history and go with the Hammond name. It is typical in a consolidation for the new school to have a new name and mascot. -
Best programs in states not named Indiana
gahoosierfan replied to Gipper's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
This past year Marietta won in 7A and Harrison out of Kennesaw won in 6A over Allatoona. My son played football at Harrison and his daughter played 4 years varsity soccer at Allatoona. -

Valdosta State University Blazers. They are DII and maybe FCS in football. -

Valdosta was dominant for decades, but they have dropped off. They are no longer in the largest school category. They are 6A now I believe. They are an independent city school district and there has been a lot of population shift to their Lowndes County schools. -
Vincennes Lincoln has selected Tim Young as their new head coach. He formerly coached at Vincennes Rivet. He coached Rivet to one state championship and five semi state championships. https://www.wzdm.com/2020/05/11/tim-young-back-in-coaching-as-lhs-girls-head-coach/

Georgia has a lot of really good 7A schools. I would list the top ones as Lowndes County (Valdosta), Colquitt County ( Moultrie), Grayson, Parkview (Decatur), Marietta, and McEachern (Powder Springs). -

Hopefully playing a tougher schedule will help Vincennes wear down Sullivan. -

This is slightly off topic, but I wonder why Providence isn't in either the Mid Southern or Patoka Lake conferences? -
Blind Draw - An Absolute Tragedy
gahoosierfan replied to BTF's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I haven't researched this, but I doubt there are few other states that use a blind draw in the football playoffs. Georgia certainly doesn't and I don't think any neighboring states here do. No NCAA football playoffs use a blind draw. Indiana is always way behind the rest of the country in most things and this is another example of that. -
Illinois Playoff Proposals

We have districts here in Georgia. A team has to finish in the top part of the standings to make the playoffs. -

Vincennes will host Sectional 31 boys. Vincennes Washington Sullivan Princeton Pike Central -
I have never visited the Cathedral campus. However, looking at it on Google Earth it looks like they have an artificial turf covered football field. It also appears that there is about 150' of woods to the north of the field separating it from the Retreat House. Wouldn't there be plenty of room to build seating there? Just asking.

Boys Basketball Reclassifications
gahoosierfan replied to gahoosierfan's topic in Boy's High School Hoops
Rivet seems to have gotten into an easier sectional. They are now in 64. Sectional 63 loses Rivet and gains Orleans making it even tougher. Vincennes Lincoln seems to have a pretty good assignment in Sectional 31. Southridge is gone and that will mean no more long drives to Huntingburg. -
He played at Forest Park. He previously was an assistant at Perry Meridian and then head coach at Benton Central near Lafayette. https://www.wzdm.com/2019/04/23/jordan-myers-new-lhs-boys-basketball-head-coach/
