Thanks.  Didn't realize the size difference.  I still think of Danville as a 'smaller school' based on its history with Mater Dei and Memorial.  Of course it's still weird for me to think of Zionsville different than 3A from the times they played Heritage Hills!

Webo is competitve right now... Some of these schools are pushing 90+ kids on their Football roster.  We have 62 and Webo enrollment is declining (you can see it in the youth league).

Webo used to play Zionsville as they are a County school... There is a reason we no longer play them...  Again, it's not about right now... It's about 5-10 years down the road AND it's about all sports not just football (though I fully understand this is a football board and many people only think in football terms)

I'm not familiar with the area and only follow football.  WeBo I would have assumed wasn't afraid to compete with Tri-West and Danville.  Are they just looking to be the big fish in a small pond athletically?

Danville and Lebanon are growing rapidly... I think it has more to do with the future and similar size schools vs. right now.  Danville will be 4A soon, Lebanon could be push to 5A soon, meanwhile Webo will more than likely be back to 2A after this year (and remain in 2A for the foreseeable future).

WEBO 2018-2020 and Ev Mater Dei 2021-2022 are prime examples why 2 years, hard cut offs are ridiculous implementations of the SF.

I didn't want to toss WeBo under the bus like that. 😃

Seriously, when SF was first being considered, I thought the same thing about the yo-yoing; especially in 1A.  Part of that was also, when it was first implemented, it took four points to stay up instead of two points, which I though for sure would set up a situation of roughly three or four teams taking turns wearing the crown.  That hasn't ended up materializing; especially with the two-point modification.  That kept Pioneer up in 2A instead of letting them back down ... and keep in mind that had they returned to 1A it would have been on the heals of picking up a regional title in 2A the year before over Andrean.  For the most part, there really hasn't been any yo-yoing of 1A teams.  Note that LCC won a sectional in 2A last season, so another sectional win and they stay.

Although it's been about a decade since the first teams were SF'd, we're still still very young in the process.  We've only had a about five cycles and, in that time we've also had some issues with having to modify the stay-up points, so we've really only had four cycles and one of them was the wonky COVID cycle.  We don't have as many data points as it seems like we might have at this point, but I think SF is doing a decent enough job at this point, even if it's not at 100% of what it was expected/hoped to do.  I'd say it's a step in the right direction and better than where we were.

As for the p/p auto bump, in 1A, the only really competitive school at this point is Lutheran that's there.  SF is about to take care of them.  I also suspect that they will be able to pick up two points in 2A barring getting a 2A sectional of death like the 3A sectional of death or the infinite wisdom of putting Chjatard and Roncalli in the same sectional when Chatard bumped up to 4A.  Enrollment will end up taking care of Covenant Christian and Park Tudor most likely the next time around, so it's likely to be a fairly moot point in the next year or so.

    Appreciate that!  😆

For the record...any SF discussion I particpate in is supposed to begin with DON'T FORGET ABOUT WEBO!!!  🤪

My issue with 1A is you could very well end up with a yo-yo situation of P/Ps moving up and down "taking turns" in 1A.  Lutheran, LCC, CC...

Shrinking 1A down to 32 would bump some of these schools up to 2A.  I don't think its unrealistic to move any other P/P up into the 33-?? 2A.

You can all leave us out of this... 😆

We have been in 3A going on 3 years... We will more than likely be back to 2A in the fall of 2024.

I don't know that the specific location of the Lilly development should matter too much.  People could easily live anywhere in Boone County and work there.

The Western Boone school district encompasses the most land area in Boone County if I'm not mistaken.  From what I read, you won't be able to drive north of where Lilly is developing more than a mile or two before you get into the district.  The school name is a bit of a misnomer.  It does encompass all of the western side of Boone County but it also covers almost the entire northern 1/3 of the County all the way over until you run into Sheridan district.

My guess is that there will be decent growth in the Webo district as a result of this.  Perhaps not as much as in Lebanon, but significant.  Certainly enough that I think their 2A days may be permanently in their past.

Webo will more than likely be 2A in the next enrolment count.  Could their enrolment go up as a result of the Lilly Development?  Absolutely.  But people or developers are going to pay a large premium for that farmland.  That they want to build houses on... The State and Lilly set the bar pretty high when they came in and purchased the land for $50K-$60K an acre...

The issues that we had between crossovers was that each league had its own set of rules.  Most were the same, but ball carrier weights, for example, might differ.  It might also be other things such as defense alignments, etc.  Since these were typically a week or two of crossover, we just kind of compromised where there were variances.

The leagues have met and set all of those rules collectively.

  12. 7 minutes ago, foxbat said:

Sometimes there's crossover activity with youth leagues/programs.  I recall a couple of seasons where Little Gridiron played some games with Monticello Youth Football.  The teams didn't join the leagues, but the leagues played some crossover matches.  One year one of the LGI programs played both LGI and played MYF in weekends when they were going to have a bye.  Just recently, I know that LCC was playing some of the 56er teams even though I don't think they had officially joined 56er football.

Webo, CVille, North Montgomery, Southmont, North Putnam will be a league that schedules and plays those teams.  There are rules in place that all individual leagues have agreed to.  The Webo 6th grade team will also play Lebanon, Danville, and Tri-West because they need more games (I assume the other schools will pick up teams as well to fill a schedule).  We structure our league that Minors is 2nd/3rd grade, Majors is 4th/5th grade, and then a 6th grade team (1 team unless numbers dictate you can do more than 1).  Southmont and Lebanon's 6th grade teams are a school team (just like 7th and 8th grade football), but the other schools all run theirs as part of the youth organization.

How is a family moving out of Avon or Brownsburg to Danville or Lizton/Pittsboro a 'leftover'?   Families move all the time for all types of reasons.   Are they somehow told by the Avon or Brownsburg government school system that they are not worthy of the educational and extracurricular opportunities offered there, so they should move?

I think they are referring to the kids leaving Avon or Brownsburg and going to school at Danville or Tri-West but not actually moving into the district maybe?  Like the kid maybe 3rd string or not be able to play at a 6A school (Avon/BBurg) but could start at a 3A or 4A school?  Not speaking for VanHalen6, but I think that is what they are referring to?

Reading the NP post again, I think I misread it initially.  I initially had read it as they (NP) were joining the 5 former SAC schools at the high school level and that because of that the youth leagues were joining together.  On second read, that does not appear to be the case.  Still, it seems interesting that the post is apparently no longer posted on whichever account it originated from.  Still, my apologies.  The only excuse I can offer is that I had not yet had my coffee when I made that initial post so my brain was not operating at peak efficiency.

It is posted on Facebook.  Search North Putnam Youth Football

It only is in regard to youth leagues is the way I read it.

557 to 511 seems to suggest other factors than just "small community class fluctuation" ....A business shut down? Another school opening up? Programs being cut at the school??

In Social Studies class we call these things "push factors" ....

You don't see any "push factors" that have driven down enrollment?

Not that I can think of.  We don't have many kids leaving for Zionsville, Lebanon, Traders Point, etc.  Maybe there is and I am just missing it... Or maybe there were a few large classes that contributed to the 557.  Again, the class of 2023 is large... The class of 2026 is large... The class of 2028 is large.. But 2027 and 2029 are small.

(Note. Story is behind a paywall)

Just polite lip service by the Lebanon A.D.?

Maybe there will be changes, there will not be... My whole issue with this is that DT, Jim Reamer, and others (?) have posted that this has already happened (which it has not).  I am so tired of media and everyone wanting to break the news that they get it wrong with absolutely no repercussions.

A quick google search shows that WeBo's enrollment dropped significantly following the 2015-16, 16-17 cycle to the next 2 year window (17-18, 18-19) from 557 to 529 ....any particular reason for such a big drop?

And it looks like it has been on the decline ever since? People leaving to Lebanon? New School open up?

I don't think people are leaving for Lebanon... I think it is what it is... A small community school corporation.  Class sizes in the elementary schools are small.  The freshman class and senior class right now are rather large, but the current 8th grade class is small.  I don't think there is any one thing or any rhyme or reason as to why.

Could be some of both?....Trader's Point Christian is right there off 65.  I don't know how long theyve been open, but they've only had football a handful of years.

I don't think we are losing kids to Trader's Point either.
