WeBo is already in the Sagamore and has been for a long time. It fits perfectly in with nearby rivals who are 3As and small 4As. It's a perfect fit and there's no real reason for them to go anywhere.

I am not sure the Sagamore survives in the next 2-3 years... Gut feel.  @superjay mentioned something I hadn't heard, but it's certainly interesting... Just don't know the level of detail that would go into putting something like that together.  I just wonder if Danville, Tri-West, Lebanon all outgrow the Sag and start looking for something that makes more sense for them to prepare for playoffs... Danville has approved 3 new housing neighborhoods, I believe there is 1 or 2 around the Tri-West area that may come to fruition, and Lebanon is adding growth/housing (not to mention a LARGE industrial project coming).

Here is the Conf. Champioins in Football..

Just a reminder for those playing along with DT's thought exercise - football is only one of 20 IHSAA-sanctioned sports and a school that may be struggling in football may still be a good fit in a conference in terms of geography, school population and competitiveness in other sports.

Exactly... Or just because is school is good in football it may not be a good fit in terms of geography, school population, & competitiveness in other sports..

Cascade will depart from the Indiana Crossroads Conference at the conclusion of next season and return to the WIC . Candidates have been discussed but nothing official has been announced. Teams simply mentioned via word of mouth who might be interested and would be good fits (Again I'm not saying these teams have even applied for membership just more merely discussed among coaches and member schools) .

    1) Covenant Christian

    2) Western Boone

    3) Park Tutor (rejoin)

    4) Indian Creek

    5) Lapel (rejoin)

IMO Covenant would be the best fit . It would give a balance of private and public schools . Geography makes a lot of sense. Would maintain a competitive balance beneficial to Covenant and the other member schools.

I don't see this for WeBo... Going to Triton Central for a Thursday Night Freshman Basketball game makes zero sense... Football wise, maybe.  not for the other Sports.

He still has a FB page? I thought it was going defunct due to a lack of cash flow from sponsors that I heard through some click bait post, I mean, self-imposed rumor, I mean, click bait post, I mean the grapevine. (Ok, I'm done.)

FWIW, I hope HH has a great year (games vs GS notwithstanding).

Yes, the FB page still exists.. I find it somewhat comical that he copies and pastes quite a bit of stuff from here and is asking for sponsors/$.

The best thing he does is the coach interviews.

ADs definitely submit "packages" to host sectionals, regionals and semi-states, but that doesn't ensure anything.  Back in my AD days, sectional host sites were selected by the sectional teams, then regional and semi-state host sites were selected by the IHSAA. (Schools had to submit their interest to host regional and semi-state.) My school was strong in basketball so we frequently went to regional, which bounced back between 2 host sites. Everyone agreed one site was much better than the other, but the IHSAA always wanted the other site to host.

There is definitely an economic piece that must be evaluated for basketball.  What is there to do in the city, lodging, restaurants etc.  This is less important in football as it would only be one day.  What happens if the host is still playing do they get a home game?  Also do 4A, 5A and 6A schools want to let 1A , 2A and 3A schools play at their facility?  Will the host site recuperate any losses?  I feel like there are a lot of questions.  And because we don't seed the tournament yet, maybe we should start there.

Yes, much like basketball there could be a chance that you play a Semi-State home game.  As for 4-6A wanting to let smaller schools play at their facility... Not sure the difference is if a 1A school is playing basketball at Seymour vs a 1A football team playing there?  We also don't seed the basketball tourney either.  Not sure what "losses" the host school would have (unless you are talking about a torn up field)?

There are a lot of questions, I agree... But I don't understand that thoughts of we do it in basketball and not football...

Is it a question of venue as opposed to just location?  Jeff has been a "landing place" for basketball tourneys and post-season play.  Similarly, I get the impression, when the IHSAA sets some of the regionals/sectionals etc. for baseball, it's as much about the venue as anything else.  With that said, I'm merely asking as opposed to passing judgement on Washington's facilities vs. Seymour's as I'm not familiar with either school's facilities.

I think the other issue with football, as you pointed out, is the aspect of maintenance up to the semi-state; especially among smaller schools.  The cost to most 1A/2A and possibly 3A/4A of maintaining non-turf fields for two or three extra weeks would probably make it not worth hosting.  The argument nowadays is that, at least if you go somewhere where the field is in disrepair for football post-season, it's kind of "baked-in" to the equation that you take what you get.  If we went to neutral fields, there would HAVE to be, or at least should be, an expectation of a certainly level of amenities, field condition, etc.  That expectation would probably take several schools out of WANTING to be  considered.  Obviously, turf fields make it easier for the maintenance, but there are even some turf fields that might be, arguably, better turf fields to play on post season than others.  I suspect there would be much more grousing if the state went to neutral sites and field conditions/amenities were, within reason, less-than-stellar.  It's kind of like $1 beer night at the local dive.  No one asks what label it is and, even if it tastes like paint thinner and is sometimes warm, there will be little complaining.  At $8 a glass, the expectation is ice cold and name-brand.

It's my understanding the AD's submit packages to host Sectionals, Regionals, Semi-States in Basketball.. Certainly seating as well as probably many other things are taken into account when this occurs.  It could be done with Football... Semi-State hosts to have plenty of seating & a turf field.  Little to no maintenance (at least not additional unless there is a snow storm).  Track hosts have to have at least an 8 lane track.. Why couldn't it be mandated that Semi-State hosts have to have Turf?

Good points by both @foxbat& @oldtimeqb

They earned 5 points the last 2 years , its 6 pts to move up . However only requires two points to remain up , Pioneer earned 4 with regional title in 2020

I believe Mater Dei is in the same boat... 5 points.. Regional Championship in 2020, Semi State Champion (State Runner up) in 2021.

Sounds like you are hoping the arent??!!

I honestly don't care.  We beat Luers and Mater Dei in 2020.  I was just pointing out that those 3 schools in particular are not correct as far as the enrolment numbers that were released last week.  No idea what other schools are or are not.  I think ours is close and we are probably border line 2A or 3A.

Woke up and couldn't fall back asleep so I took a shot at the 3A sectionals based on your map.  No matter how you slice it, there's a least one bastard sectional that doesn't really fit together very well.  In this case, it's 30 that stretches both northeast and southeast from Indy.  Of course, if you switch out just a couple of schools the whole thing could be organized very differently.

25 (8)- Andrean, Boone Grove, Calumet, Culver, Griffith, Hanover Central, Knox, Twin Lakes

26 (8) - Bremen, Clay, Fairfield, Jimtown, John Glenn, Lakeland, Marian, Tippecanoe Valley

27 (7) - Belmont, Concordia, Garrett, Heritage, Luers, West Noble, Woodlan

28 (8) - Crawfordsville, Maconaquah, North Montgomery, Northwestern, Oak Hill, Peru, West Lafayette, Western Boone

29 (8) - Danville, Indian Creek, Monrovia, Owen Valley, Purdue Polytechnic, Speedway, Tri West, West Vigo

30 (8) - Batesville, Delta, Franklin County, Greensburg, Guerin Catholic, Hamilton Heights, Rushville, Yorktown

31 (8) - Charlestown, Corydon Central, Lawrenceburg, Madison, North Harrison, Salem, Scottsburg, South Dearborn

32 (8) - Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills, Lincoln, Mater Dei, Mount Vernon, Princeton, Southridge, Washington

The enrolment numbers released are not correct... Andrean & Luers won't be 3A... Mater Dei will not be based on enrolment either.

There was apparently some bad data. Have heard from several people the IHSAA is circulating a memo stating the enrollments posted have some discrepancies and are in the process of being corrected.

The link is gone again.. They must be correcting it again... I've seen Monkey $#!t fights as the zoo more organized than this... As my friend @Donnie Bakersays, I swear to God I have.

One thing the IHSAA could do, since there's one bumped-to 4A (Chatard), 3A (WeBo) and 2A (LCC) school in this situation and by my count 317 football-playing schools.

Put those three in their current classes for this year, so 4A would have 64 schools and the others 63 each. If they get their two points, they stay up for next year. If they don't, they drop back down next year. Design the sectionals so they can drop back with little disruption (e.g., Chatard move into WeBo's sectional, WeBo into LCC's, create a 7-team sectional in 1A where LCC would go).

I get it... but "Point totals from 2020-21 and the current school year (2021-22) will be used to determine Tournament Success Factor movement."  With that, all 3 move back to enrolment based class.

    10 minutes ago, oldtimeqb said:

That actually makes a lot of sense. Maybe one minor issue - like what if WeBo drops because they lose in sectional but LCC wins regional and stays?

    So maybe it’s something like 4A 22 - 8 teams including Chatard. 3A 28 - 7 teams including WeBo. 2A 37 - 7 teams including LCC.

They showed last time two completely different brackets for two years with Carmel being North and South over a 2 year span that it would not be impossible.

The sectionals will be completely different... At least sectional 37... Speedway moves up to 3A because of enrolment Seeger appears to be on the border of 2A/1A, Webo appears to be on the border of 3A/2A.  All the sectionals will be completely different... Look at 3A now, you have Andrean, Evansville Mater Dei, and Bishop Luers all moving up because of enrolment... That will have an affect on the sectionals in both 2A & 3A.

Cathedral's super sophomore wrestlers Jackson Weingart (most likely our beastly next up ILB) placed 7th and our incoming Jerome Bettis-esque RB Hosia Smith placed 5th. Cathedral has a long tradition of wrestlers playing football and it is highly encouraged. Multiple wrestling state champs that have played football for the Irish starting with Derrick Brownlow in 1986. He won the state in both sports that year. Matt Hasbrook was another. 3 rings for Irish football and 1 for Wrestling.

We had 6 wrestlers win blue rings with the CHS football squad this season.

Also, Brownsburg HS 3rd place finisher Leighton Jones was just offered by Purdue Football yesterday.

He committed to Iowa over the weekend.

  13. Webo/Chatard/LCC will either be playing in a class up again for the next 2 years (making 3 years in the SF) or they only do 1 year and reset everything (wipe the slate)… I highly doubt (with almost a 99% certainty) that the IHSAA is not going to go through this exercise again (enrollment, sectional alignments, etc.) next year to ensure 3 schools stay up for their mandatory 2 year cycle.

Wherever the IHSAA puts us (Webo), we’ll show up and play.

Unfortunately, the brutal truth about this entire episode is that it is all about race.  "Cultural alignment" is nothing more than a veiled reference to racial differences that have developed between the 2 outbound schools and the 6 carryovers.  The shooting incident at Ben Davis and the Blackface debacle at Center Grove are not merely just coincidental with this seismic move by The MIC.  The two camps have grown apart and a separation was inevitable.  It is what it is.

Disagree completely... Had zero to do with Race...  it had everything to do with competition and $.

Let’s compare him to Popeye Williams.

played a very tough 6A schedule

also had 7 sacks and no forced fumbles.  Had 4 less TFLs.  The only thing that separates Curry from PW is that Curry has more career success and awards but many of them are team based.  His case in terms of a single season performance isn’t much different than PWs

if it’s based on only the senior season, it’s probably hauser vs Allen

if it involves the career, it’s Allen vs Curry.

I don't need to compare Popeye... You are certainly entitled to your opinion.
