Temp’s Top 25 (After Week 4)
23andCounting replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Gotta tell it like I see it. Carroll put the ball in the endzone three times vs CG, zero vs Dwenger. One has to conclude that Dwenger has the better defense of the two. Guilford is #1 player in Indiana. The kid from Penn is next, followed by Brown............according to 24/7. -
Temp’s Top 25 (After Week 4)

1. Three years ago they lost to CG 35-9. This year they lost to them 35-24. Let's not pretend that CG is having a down year. 2. I thought defense wins championships? It just tells me that Dwenger's defense is way better than Center Groves. 3. But it's an accomplishment none the less. It's hard to ignore having two of the top three WR's in the state in their lineup. 4. They had Snider on the ropes in the 4th quarter of sectionals. Also came within a touchdown during the regular season. I've long stated that Snider was the best team in 5A in 2022, but were a victim of weather. Hard for me not to give credit to North Side for being one of 5A's best teams that year. 5. I said Sparty is "up" from last year. Is that false? -

GS guy? Who's that? No punting please. Four plays to run ten yards. We'll be dangerous. Imagine Warsaw or Mishawaka doing that. Coaches think they are a nightmare now? Whoa. -

Snider being down gives fans a false sense that the SAC is weak. I saw Carroll in person. Competed just fine against two of Indy's best. Dwenger beat Carroll, enough said. Although beating St. Francis De Sales 31-17 was pretty impressive. Lost to Roncalli by 3pts in a tune up game. Northrop has their best team in 25 years. North Side is close to 2022 form..........a team that was good enough to win state. Homestead is up this season as well. If the SAC is down this year, then they must have been utterly atrocious last season. That being said, I'd say Dwenger has the best chance at a state title appearance this year, and I have them as an underdog to East Noble. Probably no representation from the SAC this year at Lucas Oil, but that doesn't mean they're "awful." -

Don't underestimate Carroll. They gave CG and HSE all they could handle. Probably would have beaten HSE had they been at full strength. Which also tells me that your Saints are really good. The "Fort Wayne is awful" opinion has no merit. -

Carroll and Crown Point took two of the last three, did they not? This year would make 3 of 4. -

Then a fresh northern team takes three of their last four by beating a banged up Indy squad? Good grief. -
Is New Pal a Lock in 5A?
23andCounting replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Thumbs down to Sagarin just 4 weeks in. Thumbs up to New Pal. After seeing them last year against East Noble, I felt firmly that they were a Top Ten team.......latter half more than likely. Someone in the offseason said they return 18 starters. That was enough to dub them as potential Top 5 this season, and so far, they look the part. I've got New Pal in a lock. Even Merrillville's speed on turf in perfect playing conditions won't be enough to challenge them in my opinion. Question: The model at New Pal has always been to take the best players and put them on both sides of the football. Presuming that's the case again this season? -

East Noble, at minimum, is as good as they were last year. Dwenger is drastically improved. Winner goes to state. Keep the receipt. -

C'mon Komets, seriously? Everyone thought Columbia City was good last year til they got squashed by EN then drubbed 38-0 by Dwenger. I wish them well, I really do. But that sectional is a two, maybe three at best, team race. -

Huntington North 21, Columbia City 14 East Noble 38, Huntington North 0 Columbia won't be a factor at all. Leo's a good football team. We'll see what they are made of Friday when they play East Noble. I'll roll with the Knights by two touchdowns. -
I'm happy for Northrop and what they are doing. They certainly have the talent to make things interesting against Carroll. But four weeks in, I'm going to have to roll with a 14 point Carroll victory. The Bruins day of reckoning is in two weeks. We'll see how that goes.
-
Snider was up 24-0 at half. Coaching staff hasn't ever put much stock into the final score. Sagarin ratings means way less to them than valuable playing time for the backups.
-
Regionals? They won't win sectionals, sorry. "Dogwalk" is a stretch. Potential win for sure. Could happen!
-
Agree. His resume just doesn't pop off the charts to me.
-
Can't say I'm a fan of this new defensive coordinator. If I remember correctly, his resume wasn't even that impressive. What has he done to justify his salary? Don't feel like looking it up if you know off the top of your head.
-
Northrop is way up this year with two of the best athletes in the state on offense. North is up as well. Snider's really struggling this season for whatever reason. Underdog? Probably not, but those games could certainly go either way. Side note: Everyone is high on Warsaw, but Snider led them most of the way through three quarters, for what it's worth. My take? Snider's having an off year, for sure. Be leery of Warsaw, defense just isn't that good. I think Carroll, Dwenger, and East Noble are better than the Tigers. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.
-
Meh................let's compromise and call them "pick em" games.

Snider's down this year, I get that. But Homestead, Dwenger, Northrop, North Side, and South Side are up. Carroll is at minimum equal to last year. Luers is Luers. Not sure why you're so down on the SAC. Is the SAC 6A good? No. But "plain awful"? C'mon Komets. Every great team has that one game, they just do. East Noble crushed Snider and disposed of Huntington North 38-0. Good grief, so they had a down game. -

At least we agree on Warsaw. The Dwenger/East Noble winner will go to state. Take it to the bank. -

Understood, good stuff. But couldn't you say the same for Roncalli? Carroll scored double what Roncalli did, and the Rebels hung 41 on Columbus North. -

I saw Carroll play CG, they're pretty good. And they came within a touchdown of HSE without their top offensive weapon. Dwenger lost to Roncalli by 3, probably a little rusty being first game of the season. Win over DeSales was impressive, as was the win over Carroll. Every team has a one off, I think the Dekalb game was East Noble's. They had less then a minute to wake up and get the job done, and they did. Still think they are good. Warsaw isn't as good as some think they are, defense is bad.
