Somewhat related but I wonder how independence has affected Madison. Has it been a benefit or detriment? My gut feeling is that they didn’t expect to stay independent for more than a year or two. I know they tried to join the Mid-Southern Conference but the feeling wasn’t mutual.

I think it has been difficult to schedule favorably. When they first got out, it was a crap shoot looking for available opponents and they ended up playing some outstanding teams out of Kentucky. They essentially traded Columbus East and Floyd for similar opponents. Last year they had Greenfield-Central scheduled, who for years had been not so great. Last year, they were a very good team. They also added Brownstown, who could compete with most in the HHC. They also play Providence, who won a sectional last year. This year, they've added Scottsburg, so that is a good matchup, but Scottsburg has made a lot of progress and will be a tough out. But I'm not sure they've really softened their schedule up a whole lot. Also, there is a new administration at Madison that did not hire him so you know how those things go.

On another note, it appears as though JC coach TJ Newton left to take the job at Eastern Pekin. It is over on the PLAC/MSC thread.

Jeffersonville and New Albany are both a clown show. New Albany ran out a Hall of Fame coach like Jim Shannon. Hired a guy from Jay County. Their AD ran him out this summer. Then they hired a guy from Kansas who won 2 games last year. In basketball.  And I like Steve Cooley, he's a pretty good guy. But he's not really getting it done either.

Steve Cooley took his team to semi-state just a couple of years ago. No other football team around here has managed that, except Seymour in the 90s. I'm not sure about your definitions of "getting it done," but that would qualify in most people's books.

I hope everyone joins again next year and please remember that you have to pick every single game in order to be in contention in the main pick ‘em competition.

Talk about a doozy trying to pick Southridge vs. NP. Look at common opponents: Tell City (SR 47-14, NP 35-0 ), Tecumseh (SR 63-0, NP 63-0), South Spencer (SR 42-7, NP 41-7). Heritage Hills is the only one off. SR lost at the beginning of the year to them 45-13 while NP lost to them two weeks ago 10-0. It should be a great game. I'll give the nod to NP at home but it could easily go either way
