They do have a beautiful campus near Mass Ave and great football facilities. It's one of the best environments in Marion County and would be awesome if the stadium was full. Schools with a large number of low income students have different challenges than most people realize if they have never been involved with them. Tech can be successful, but it takes a great coaching staff and non-pandemic circumstances.

I have a soft spot for IPS Athletics. My father coached at School 75 in the 1970's and was an teacher, counselor, and administrator in IPS for 35 years. He taught in the middle schools and was in admin/counseling at Wood, Howe, and Broad Ripple. He also played football in the 1950's at Washington, and he had a shot to be principal there when it closed in the 1990's. He likely would have been the last principal had they chosen him. They didn't, and he stayed at Ripple until his retirement in 1997. Anyway, I always loved all the games I attended as a kid. I remember the energy of the Ripple/Tech or Ripple/Arlington games.

When the Giants get on a roll, they are a tough team to beat in any year.

I am going to get the specifics wrong on this, but I believe that BD gave up eight big plays to Carmel and held them the rest of the time to less than 150 yards. BD gave Center Grove the ball three or four times on short fields. This team is better than its start. I think that the confidence is only continuing to build. They have to stay healthy and keep it rolling though.

    Ben Davis @ Southport:

The Giants have been all over the place this season. You never know which BD squad is going to show up on Friday night.

Bet on the team that's shown up the last two times out (and in the OT loss to LN). BD's playing 1000 times better, and Coach Simmons again, for the second year in a row, has them playing their best ball in October into November. That confidence is only going to grow. I think the Giants will be a tough out.

Since Arlington is now a middle school, then they keep the field in shape just for Cathedral? I'm assuming Cathedral pays IPS for the right to use that field. I also saw where Roncalli played Attucks at Northwest, another IPS school that is now only a middle school. Attucks does have a home field, but maybe not in the best shape.

Cathedral might as well make IPS an offer for that field.

As a MIC fan, I would think that you would embrace the national recognition CG is getting as it reflects very positively on the conference and the state in general.

I know for a fact that many Hoosiers state wide celebrated Ben Davis's great national recognition when the Giants were riding high.

    Sounds like sour grapes

What will attendance be like this Friday?  Is 50% capacity still allowed?

Most years, the regular season produces 2-3 'big games' with large crowds and teams can adjust to the atmosphere by playoff time.  I don't think Central has played in front of more than 750 fans this year.  I wonder if the home field crowd will factor into the game?  It might ramp up the emotional level or it might have no impact at all.

Just something I have been wondering since I saw the sectional draw.

Depends on the county. I believe (don't quote me on this) Marion County has capped most high school events at 1,000 (or 25 percent capacity). Other counties, I believe, are in Stage 5 and have had the restrictions mostly lifted (with social distancing).

Correction...1500 fans in Marion County or 50 percent capacity whichever is less.

  7. The fact that we made it through the regular season.

The fact that both North Central and Lawrence North beat Warren Central. NC won for the first time in 21 years last month and LN beat the Warriors for the first time since 2005 in the regular season finale.

To be fair, these aren't your historically normal NC and LN squads.

50-75% empty stadiums at the 4A-6A level for Regionals and Semi-State is the norm as can be seen on IHSAATV broadcasts the past few years.

Depends on the teams playing, the venue, and the weather. A crowd of 5,000 can look like it fills up most stadiums, but that would be 50 percent capacity of Ben Davis and Warren's stadiums.
