Coaches have to say the correct things, especially to media outlets and what-not. And honestly - it is a done deal so the correct attitude to have it "let's strap it up and get it on"

But is NO ONE going to point out how laughable sectional 31 is compared to 32?? I know some sectionals will undoubtedly be tougher - but can no one in the executive room take a step back and look and go......"well lets see: Gibson, Memorial, HH, MD, SR" compared to "Owen Valley, Madison, Edinburg, Scottsburg, Corydon Central" ......"yup, looks about right to me" 

And don't point to geography ...OV to Madison is 2 hours and 11 minutes.....Gibson/Eville 1 hour 30 minutes

If I understand the SF points correctly, if either HH gets back to LOS or EM wins a Regional, it would mean a bump up to 4A in 2025. And, as Titan32 previously said, GS could be 4A in the next reclassification. This could be a 1 or 2 year deal at most, so we fans better enjoy what will be a tough, tough sectional and some great HS atmospheres. I believe its the first time HH, GS, SR, MD and Memorial have all been in the same sectional. 

Fun trivia fact for you- outside of Memorial- who is the only other team in this sectional field to be moved up due to SF, and gained enough points to stay up the next classification go around??

So, next question then- when a seeding proposal is shot down by a 16-0 vote (or whatever it was), it that vote done by the Executive committee?? (Who, according to my reading, is NOT made up of principals - but rather AD's?)

Seems pretty vague to me....

With the recent seeding proposal shot down quicker than ...well I can't come up with anything "catchy" - but anyway, with it being shot down it got me wondering. The NFL/NBA commissioner has to answer to the owners of the league.

Who does the IHSAA "brass/higher ups/executive committees" quote/unquote have to "answer to??" Like...who hires these positions? And...who/do they have bosses to answer to? The IFCA presents a proposal for seeding...the IHSAA just says "NOPE"...and that is it?? The IHSAA decides they are going to do this new 1A-4A classification thing for non-football sports...and they viola - it happens! Meanwhile, their is a big contingent that thinks it would be a better idea in football to have the biggest 32 in 6A...smallest 32 in 1A, then rest split evenly...but the IHSSA says - NOPE!! 

I will admit I am ignorant on the whole deal so there may be an easy answer to this...but sometimes it just seems to me like the IHSAA higher ups are like the almighty OZ.

Also, I will add that the IHSAA has shown before that they will consider "competitive balance" and not just geography when determining sectionals ...in our own wrestling sectional Floyd Central and New Albany were both added (driving right past Jeffersonville, which is 10 minutes away) in order to try and even out the competition. 

Take that for what it is worth

Ok I’ll stoke that fire…you Tiger fans better be careful what you are asking for in regards to this sectional. I know the Tigers have been uber successful the past 15 years or so- but a sectional such as this could put an end to such success real quick . Just saying…

Maybe even call up SR to the big leagues, unless they are hell bent on padding the trophy case. 

The realignment of the PAC had very minimal effect on our schedule- minus shuffling a few teams around to certain weeks. We play all the important players in the PAC (traditionally) anyway- so who cares what “division” we are in…we certainly don’t I can promise you that.

In Southern Indiana (when talking PAC and SIAC) - I think our track record for postseason success speaks for itself and there is really nowhere to hide when it comes to where we, or any other team, is placed is sectionals. We'll strap it up and play regardless of where we are placed. 

What I do hope to avoid is the atrocity that was sectional 30 a few years ago - I do believe in being somewhat "competitively balanced" (when feasible) in sectional alignments. Meaning, I don't believe it is right/fair to "load" up one sectional with routinely top 10 teams and have another sectional of ...well not so on par programs.

As a semi-state game each school received only 100 tickets worth of gate revenue. Instead, the IHSAA was the one who made the bank. Call it what you want, but a Sectional with tradition-rich schools like GS, HH, SR, & Ev. Memorial will offer some great games to watch and the schools will benefit financially and competitively.

And it was one of the most electric, coolest atmosphere's for a semi-state that I've been to. (And I've been to plenty of them) 

You seem obsessed with creating a southern "sectional of death" (you've mentioned it many times since the enrollment numbers have been given out) like it is some sort of badge of honor?? I say the more spread out (if possible) and the better possibility for deeper advancement leads to cooler atmosphere's like the one mentioned above. 

This is so disappointing on so many levels. Shame on the IHSAA for being so hesitant/resistant to change. So 38 other States can have some sort of seeding/qualification - but we can't seem to figure out a format that works??? Give me a break. 

And if you can seed the top 2, you can seed everyone

Good regular seasons need to be rewarded.

 Coach Riordan teaches Economics, Advanced Placement Economics and ACP Business at Penn. And as you may remember, he was recently named a teacher Impact Award winner for helping his students increase their test scores on their AP exams by as much as 20%. 

 The announcement happened earlier this morning when Coach Riordan worked with Athletic Director Jeff Hart, Strength & Conditioning Coach Matt Cates, and retiring Head Coach Cory Yeoman to surprise his players with the news. It was important for Coach Riordan to talk to the team first before making a public announcement. A public news conference is taking place at 2:00 this afternoon.

 In addition to coaching Football at Penn, Coach Riordan was a Junior Varsity Baseball Coach at Penn (2001-2003). Penn won the State Championship in Baseball in 2001. He served as the Boys Freshman Basketball Head Coach (2001), the season that the Kingsmen finished as State Runner-up. He was a volunteer assistant Football coach at Northridge for the 2000 season.

 Coach Riordan owns a state championship legacy. He played on the 1995 South Bend St. Joseph State Championship Football Team and was a three-year starter. Coach Riordan also played one year of Football at Wabash College. He earned a B.A. from Wabash and earned an MBA in Finance from Indiana University South Bend.

 Coach Riordan credited his high school coach, Frank Amato, for teaching the love and respect for the game of Football. He also credited former Penn Defensive Coordinator Don Monhaut for teaching the details and preparation of game-planning, and former Penn Head Coach Cory Yeoman for his unbelievable passion for the game.

 The P-H-M Board of School Trustees will officially approve Superintendent Dr. Jerry Thacker’s recommendation of Coach Riordan to this position at its meeting on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Pete is a good man, and a good coach, I don't know if he is the correct pick for this program to bring them back to 6A relevancy. Time will tell.

$118,000 for being a strength teacher and head football coach?? Sure, property taxes/land values and quality of living cost - I understand all that - but whoa - different world people are living in up in Westfield

Care to elaborate as far as Coach Gilbert's role within the school?? Dean of students? Strength Coach? That type of salary seems to suggest some type of Administration role I would guess?? 

Without quoting all the above classes and taking up loads of space in this reply box- those classes (where 32 biggest are in 6A and 32 smallest are in 1A) seem about right to me.

After reading through this thread - I actually think I've come around to the idea that is should be the BIGGEST 32 in 6A and the smallest 32 in 1A - then split the rest as evenly as you can.

Saturday morning after week 9?  That could be possible in 1-4A, but would be much easier in 5 & 6 where you would still have two weeks to prepare.  

Every time seeding gets brought up - the naysayers sprout up with these points (how are you going to make it FAIR & logistically WHEN would you have the meetings) ....YOU'RE MISSING THE MOST OBVIOUS POINT - it is 100% better than having two 9-0 teams play 1st round while 1-8 gets to play 2-7!?!? IN WHAT WORLD is that right/fair?!? 

Give the regular season some form of meaning.

Will things be PERFECT?? Of course not....but it is light years better than what we have in place now.
