The schedules are complete and are part of the proposal.

Tell City is one of the schools who really supported this proposal

Not really as much as North Posey 😕

Knowing what I do about how this all came together, very surprised this didn't pass with little fuss at the Big 8 meeting. Wonder who/what changed from the beginning??

I am not a fair this or fair that kind of person. My favorite quote is, "There is nothing more unequal, than the equal treatment of unequals."  That being said, the 3A alignment just does not employ any type of logic that I can come up with.  The IHSAA called this a Sectional tournament, not you or I, implying that geography would be the logical way to divide teams.  Therefore, split the state into half and divide each half into quadrants.  This works for every class.  With 64 as the magic number, group eight schools at a time geographically, so that regardless of who moves up or who moves down, this is an outcome with far less anticipation.  We should not be waiting and holding our breaths to see who will go where because there should only be a handful of schools that are borderline based on their location to the location of others.  There ARE politics involved in the decision of where to send everyone this time around, and we should question the logic.  I am all for bucking tradition for better means,  and looking for new solutions to old problems, but this process should only be about looking at lines on a map and not who benefits from this scenario and that scenario.  There should NEVER be a 150+ mile, 3 hour bus ride for a sectional game.

At least this method provides very simple, logical explanations using Math, Science, and Geography for why some teams have to be placed in one place or another.

Conference affiliation, traditional rivalries, and who is friends with who should not be factors.  There does not need to be a committee that assigns sectionals.  We are waiting to see what the people are going to do about an issue that can be determined without human bias and illogical reasoning.  Place the grid over the state and assign sectionals accordingly.

Simple geography makes this a moot point.  If you look at the map that I posted earlier of the projected verses actual sectionals, you can see the flaws.  Math is the other thing on the side of my approach.  In the actual sectional assignments released for the 2019 and 2020 seasons, the average mileage and travel times (for the two schools in each group that are the farthest apart) are 102 miles and 1 hour 51 minutes respectively.  This is compared to the projected sectional alignment where the distance and time between the two schools with the greatest distance between them being, 96 miles and 1 hour 45 minutes respectively.

The number of schools vs. the number of classes creates a problem for the IHSAA that I do not envy.  However, this discussion would not be at all necessary if they simply geographically places schools in their sectional.  my biggest issue looking at these maps is the size of the boxes on the Actual side as apposed the the projected side.  Six miles and six minutes worth of travel time seems silly to argue, however in the 2019 case there are far more schools with potentially longer than necessary trips in the sectional than 3A has seen in the past.

. Very well stated and thought out. Couldn't agree more.

  3. In my opinion- Tecumseh has absolutely NO leverage to say what they want/don’t want. How they’ve been allowed to operate as a member of the PAC for this long with basically dropping out of football is beyond me. They are either in this merger, or OUT all together in every sport.

Every time I read this thread I just get ticked off...wrong message to send to kids/program- but I’ve been down that road.

    Carry on

    I don’t believe you will see GS/SR in week 9 in 2020

    And ?? I don't think you'll see NP/GS, SS/GS, TC/GS, FP/GS either.

Find it interesting that I read in another thread that Gibson "supposedly" tried to schedule MD in an effort to "strengthen" their schedule...yet want to drop SR? Hmm...pretty sure SR has a pretty good track record vs. MD the past 20 years or so....dare I even say a winning record?? But, must be an SIAC bias type of thing. Whatever, they don't think we're good enough, then fine.

Small division of Big 8/PAC would be perfect.  You can’t compete with Heritage Hills, Jasper, and Gibson Southern but maybe one out of 10 years.  The MIC has a lot of dead weight.  Owen Valley, Brown County, Cloverdale, are historically not good programs.   I’m not sure about travel concerns, but IMO the Big8/PAC small division would be better.

Ya, I'm not in love with that 2 hour drive😒 - pretty sure other PAC teams would feel the same. Linton is a bit too "north" for our liking.

My understanding is that this is a PAC proposal and only effects football.  Don’t know why some folks are caught up on the 2 division aspect, why does it matter?  You can call them Ketchup and Mustard, the affiliation and  administration will lie with the PAC.  It’s my understanding SR strongly desires to be in the small division which is fine...the proposal is 100% enrollment based.  GS fans...from what I can gather...are excited.  I think you will find many inter-division matchups as part of the non “conference/division”  schedule.

You are 100% incorrect if you think some Big 8 teams didn’t play a role in these dealings as well. The end product may be a deal that works out and/or people can live with it- but I’m telling you the way it went about was SHADY and in my opinion, unprofessional.

Well said, and an admirable position to take...however, do you feel your position aligns with that of the SR admin?

Trust me- I’m not important enough for anyone to listen to. If I were, these “backroom” dealings and shenanigans would have been nipped in the butt a long time ago. And NP would have been reprimanded for acting as such. But alas, once the wheels are set in motion it’s a tough train to stop. Just don’t understand why we fee the need to come to the aid of another conference falling apart-

This just in.....word on the street is that SR was opposed to this deal until they found out they would be in the small division.  Perhaps a banner that says PAC “small division” Champs is appealing? 💁

Get over yourself- PAC banners are great, but we’ll gladly take that State Championship banner and a semi-State appearance the following year in its place.

Over the last 2 decades, we (SHS) have enjoyed a great run of success no doubt. We worked our tails off to get to that point- but the fact remains we don’t have some of the demographic/socioeconomic/enrollment advantages that these “upper” schools enjoy. Why would/should we advocate for a system that would place us in an “uneven” division?? We can’t look into the future- we don’t know where we will be 5-10 years down the road. Do we hope that our success will continue?? No doubt we do, but a school our size loses one great athlete, it can be a game changer.

This whole talk of adding in these teams and creating divisions to me is non-sense. A couple of the smaller schools cry about getting beat up by GS/HH every year and we want to blow the whole thing up?? Whatever...to me it sends the wrong message. Not too long ago (early 90s) we were a bottom half team in the conference- but we put our heads down, went to work, and got better. We didn’t cry and try to get the whole conference to cater to our needs. Just my opinion.
