I think we overestimated the quality of football in the PAC, yet again. North Posey, South Spencer, and (for a bit) Forest Park presented real challenges to Heritage Hills and Southridge and then eventually Gibson Southern. The Titans had a good squad in 2002 that got banged up. A regional or semistate loss by the Sectional 32 winner is not beyond possibility, due in part to the weakness of the PAC.

Ya cause the PAC had a State Champ and a Semi-State appearance in the last 2 years- we suck. Tf outta here with that noise.

Just throwing my two cents in, but I would hope anyone involved with that young mans situation would be very cautious with a broken collar bone that required surgery.  He is a fantastic baseball player, no need to jeopardize that.  JMO

I’m sure he appreciates your concern. For what it’s worth- it’s his non-throwing shoulder so you don’t have to be too worried about his baseball future as you seem to be. Awfully nice of you tho.

Kid is the ultimate competitor - he’ll be just fine.

I'm guessing you've never been to a New Pal game nor actually looked at the situation.  Part of the reason for the rule changes to allow 6 quarters per week were because often times in blowouts teams would have to play their starters for 3 full quarters otherwise they couldn't field JV or freshman teams. And to call out Coach Ralph,  whom I assume you've never met or even spoken to shows very little class, especially considering you've got facts wrong in this post so it can be assumed you don't bother to even try to get the whole story.  But hey,  there's plenty of that in the world so your additional piling on is typical.

I won't publicly reveal where I received my information (was told up 50 points and leave Charlie in to put 2 more TD's on the board) - but I can tell you it's from a source VERY close to the program and I'd imagine you'd be pretty surprised how some people REALLY felt about Ralph and his constant "running up" the score. No doubt Ralph has been tremendous for New Pal and the football program and community - but your response/defense of these antics is typical for those that have drank the "man can do no wrong" kool-aid. That's fine I guess...I was just stating my opinion and felt it needed to be pointed out.

  4. No one is gonna say it?? No one?? Really??

Ok I guess I will have to be THAT guy - and I apologize to Mr. Spegal cause this is no way a reflection of the young man. I've never met him or said two words to him, I'm sure he's an outstanding individual - but shame on Coach Ralph. Up 55 and you leave this guy in to get 2 more TD's?? I'm sorry, but I can't believe this guy (Ralph) just constantly gets a free pass of YEARS of "running up" the score. I don't think it's right and as a person in education/coaches role, I believe Ralph owes better to his team. Empathy/compassion/sportsmanship are traits the world could use more of....EGOTISM is something we have plenty of.

I wasn't around in the Brett Law days so maybe the same could be said of his Coach and chasing records, I'm not sure?? But the constant leaving a kid in to rack up more TDs and yards is just disgraceful.

Sorry to be negative but it's been allowed to go on for so long without being called out. I can't believe his Administration and/or community members have allowed the years of 78-0 brow-beatings to take place without at least SOMEONE saying "hey man, can we take it back a notch?"

Speaking of Sectional 30.........the injustice of some things.  Sectional 28 an absolute meat grinder.  Sectional 32, with 3 top 10 teams.  Sectional 31 has some stiff competition top to bottom................and then you have a sectional like 30 with one team having a winning record.  I know the schools have no choice in the matter, but the irony of it all.

The whole thing REEKS of politics and bias.

The Tri West AD served on the 3A alignment comittee!  Probably should have worried about what his HC was doing more than trying to weasel their way into an easier sectional!

    LOL

  6. Since you brought it up, I’ll put in my 2 cents. The elephant that no one wants to talk about is it was put in for parochial/private schools that were dominating year after year. The converse has happened where you are penalizing public schools for having a “good run” and a good program. Sure, we’ve had back to back State appreances, but our Stud QB decided football wasn’t worth it. A school we play, Linton, would have been playing in LOS last year if not for the success factor. The IHSSA is taking that opportunity away from those kids...they only get ONE chance to do this and because a class or 2 has success before them, they don’t get that chance. I think it’s wrong and cowardly by the IHSSA...they just won’t call a spade a spade

Amazing atmosphere tonight as expected. I always love to see a buzz around Inman before a big game and this one never disappoints. The Jasper faithful had a good showing and were clearly overjoyed to avoid a 3rd straight loss to their rival. They made sure to let us know it. Another humbling night for Lincoln, but the favor will be returned in the near future. I suspect this will be a Week 9 matchup beginning next season during Rivalry Week in the SIAC. That should be fun.

Lincoln is now 1-4. Most in football circles would’ve considered 2-3 a worst case scenario for the Alices at this point in the season. Needless to say, it’s been a new challenge for Coach Salters and his staff.  They’ve been really good the last 2 years. This is uncharted territory.

But tonight was a big step in the right direction IMO, offensively in particular. For the first time, I felt that they’ve figured out what pieces they have and how best to use them. It starts at QB. Vickers has improved exponentially in just 3 games since taking the starting job. The 6’3” junior threw for just shy of 300 tonight and ran the offense very well. The playbook seemed to open up a little more as the comfort level grows. His aggressive approach kept Lincoln in the game with some big time throws. The O-line was noticeably better as well, providing some clean pockets.

What hurt tonight was much of what plagued Lincoln a week ago...Turnovers on some forced throws and big plays allowed on defense. Much of that can be credited to Jasper. They are without a doubt the best in the Big 8 in 2019. I thought Boonville was good up front. Jasper is better. I thought Mockobee of Boonville was a beast RB. Hopf for Jasper was better. It was an old school Jasper type of game, but with Triple Option rather than Pro I.

If the Alices can keep making positive strides, I still think there’s a chance they make some noise in late October. Next week presents another challenge with county rival NK, who has already stunned another Big 8 opponent. The Alices will have to be as good, if not better to come away with a win.

Well- you don’t exactly have a barn burner of a sectional, so that shouldn’t hurt matters. Whatever the IHSSA was drinking when they aligned 30,31,and 32, think I’d like to have some.

Noted and corrected. In a toss up game like Southridge and Mater Dei, I think you have to give last year's match up some weight.

Previously we've included Mount Carmel. I'd list them between North and Linton.

I’m so confused...you do realize Southridge beat MD last year, correct? And the year before that as well?? And actually I’m pretty sure have a winning record against them in the last decade or so??

After four weeks, I think we have an adequate sample size...

    1. Memorial (4-0)
    2. Gibson Southern (3-1)
    3. Central (3-1)
    4. Heritage Hills (4-0)
    5. Mater Dei (3-1)
    6. Southridge (3-1)
    7. Castle (3-1)
    8. North (2-2)
    9. Linton (2-2)
    10. Jasper (1-3)
HM: North Knox (3-1), Mount Vernon (2-2), North Daviess (4-0), Reitz (1-3)

This was not easy. Spots 1-3 could be interchangable. As could spots 4-7. Outside of the top six or so teams, the big schools are making it hard to access where everyone stands. Would North Knox really hang in a game with Jasper or Reitz?

I put my neck out there. Your turn... Instead of a new thread each week, let's just keep updating this as the season progresses. Some interesting matchups forthcoming.

3-1?? Who did you have us losing to??

What about Jasper's soccer, swimming, golf, volleyball, and tennis programs? It does make sense. We football fans may not like it, but Jasper is more than football, baseball, and basketball.

"Maybe they dominate in a lot of "non marquee" sports...but in football, wrestling, basketball, and baseball, they ain't winning the PAC most years."

If that's what they want, then touche I guess. I didn't think it made a ton of sense economically either. Just stating my opinion on the matter.

  11. In regards to Jasper joining the SIAC - to each their own I suppose. But the fact they "thought" the PAC would not provide enough competition is just comical. Maybe they dominate in a lot of "non marquee" sports...but in football, wrestling, basketball, and baseball, they ain't winning the PAC most years. Just sayin....but hey, you take those hour  drive on a Thursday night and the awesome revenue gates you'll pull in when you play Bosse/Harrison/Central on a Friday night in football as opposed to SHS/HH/Gibson...brilliant decision.

It must have been some sort of record with Monrovia fumbling 11 times but recovering all 11.  The fumbles were mostly the result of bad snaps or mishandling of the snaps and resulted in over 60 yards in losses, many at inopportune times.   Without all those gifts, the game might have been much closer.  I never saw Monrovia play like that before.  But as mentioned above the Miners gave away a couple of scoring opportunities also.

Monrovia in the Shotgun?? Coach Akers have them in a different offense?

  13. 2 hours ago, RoadRunner said:

All of them... All of them are better. See 74's comment. What does SR get out of playing the same bad teams year after year and "Winning" a small school conference when they know damn well they can compete in the LED.
GS can agree, i'm sure, but beating teams by significant amounts each week is great for your ranking and record, but what does that help a team come tournament time and you haven't had starters play all 4 quarters all year going into sectional?

A lot of you on here have no idea about a lot of things and how things went down. You just look and comment- which is fine I guess- but don’t sit here and throw shade at SR. I think our track record speaks for itself.

It never has been under NFHS rules.

Sorry for my ignorance - but is there anything remotely close that I may be misunderstanding as to why we would have been flagged then?

TEAM A is huddled. It is determined late in the play clock that the right personnel is not the huddle....player A from TEAM A is sent in and the huddle breaks,  player A removes Player B, but ref throws a flag as player B  is running to the sideline.

Is this just an incorrect enforcement of the officials part??

  15. Breaking the huddle with 12 is a flag as to not confuse the defense and provide an unfair advantage to the offense - I understand that.

In regards to "no huddle" teams, do they just get a free run of people on and off so-to-speak?? It is my understanding that a player must report inside the hash marks - but we had a situation where no huddle teams have had 3 backs (QB and 2 RB's) trying to figure out who's in the game, while on the outside a couple different receivers doing the same thing. This can cause quite a bit of confusion for a defense when trying to determine offensive formations...

It seems to me the above to scenarios are similar in nature. Why is one a penalty, when the other is not??

  16. While it's perfectly understandable to feel like you gave one away, people (Miner fans especially) tend to forget the Raiders didn't play anywhere NEAR flawless either. 2 trips inside the Miner 5 YARD LINE in the first half and didn't convert either for TD's. That 12-7 halftime score could/should have been very easily 20-7 or 26-7, then we're talking a different tune here.

Both teams played hard, both teams made LOTS of mistakes. Time for week 2 - best of luck to the Miners the rest of the way.

  17. Um...there was this DUDE named Jade Winchell that was your dream QB out of the Wishbone. In my opinion....before my time there was this guy named King that wasn't bad. Also a Sigler at one point.....

Cole was good, but only played QB in the lower levels.

Does anyone even still run the true Wishbone offense anymore in the State of Indiana??

The voters are probably thinking that 3A top to bottom might be one of the best classes in the state........and SR is losing a VERY important piece to their team.  So maybe it's not too far off???

I could care less if we are ranked or not. I even said "in no way do I think we should be ranked in a class we haven't achieved anything in" -

There were a couple teams receiving votes that haven't won a sectional in some time, so you'd think a State/Semi-State back to back would garner maybe a few votes, but guess not. Doesn't matter in the least - just a slap in the face kind of.

A bit surprised that Southridge didn't get any votes.

In no way should we be ranked in a class in which we've achieved nothing, but when you look at some of the schools who did receive votes, you'd think after a State Championship and  semi-state appearance it'd would get us some appreciation - but guess not. Back to the grind

Coach Weber had the team practicing in full pads a day or two too early.  Someone from another nearby school reported it and the school and/or coach were placed on probation.  That was the end of it.

Thanks for the reply. I don’t remember reading anything about that when it took place so I knew it couldn’t have been too severe...does anything even take place when a school is put “on probation “??

    Linton has 56

Hey really random question - but I was looking up something on Linton the other day and came across a headline in the Greene County paper that said the Linton-Stockton football team was placed on probation by the IHSAA for the 2008-2009 year?? I don't have a subscription so I couldn't read the rest of the article - just curious as to what infraction took place and what exactly the probation entailed?
