Disregard the record. They lost a lot of seniors and had an adjustment period. They lost to some tough 4A-5A schools in a competitive conference. They're a top 10 team in 2A, maybe even top 5. And they're always playing their best football come playoff time. This may be the year North Posey finally gets them but would not be shocked if MD makes another run.

MD= players of the Success Factor perfectly. Just enough success to keep winning- not enough to get bumped up ever

The pressure will definitely be on NP at the Bowl in R2. I suspect if you switch the schedules they both are about at the same place as the other. MD faced much tougher opponents week to week and was very competitive with Reitz, who is far better than anybody NP has played. MD should be licking their chops to finally play some 2A schools.

We heard this same song and dance during our years in 2A vs. MD.

I'm just telling you - this years NP team is different.

A few thoughts for the league...

-Wagner gets my vote for POY. Simply put, he did more with less. I know Bosse only finished 3-6, but QB #1 for Lincoln got the nod in 2022 on a squad that was only 4-5...(and I believe that young man is about to prove his worth all over again as we move through the sectional).

-No nonsense this time around for Reitz/Boonville Part 2.  Panthers will boat race the Pioneers on Friday. Past that...BNL/Jasper/Memorial will certainly have something to say, but ultimately it seems Reitz v EC is inevitable.

-MD will still find their way out of Sectional 40. I saw the better version of this group back in Week 3 (hard to believe that was 6 weeks ago), and they made another statement on Friday. NP will be a tough challenge, but I like the Wildcats at The Bowl.

-I really want to pick North to come out of 16 despite a tough road match-up at Floyd..because they can be that good. But I trust Castle more, and the Knights got the favorable draw with the championship game in Paradise.

-VL knows their path..and it starts with a revenge tour at Owen Valley (who defeated VL and GS a year ago)

Not this year for MD- this Viking team is different.

Appreciated Brownstown having an awesome, fearsome crowd in 2004 sectional that seemed like many had been tailgating since the night before, getting rowdy. Tri-West was air raiding over everyone that championship season. I recall the Huntingburg crowd touting their best team ever on this board before semi and would punish the Braves.

What in the world are you talking about?!?! While we are proud of every team that comes through the program, and even more happy when they get to lift a sectional trophy...that 2004 SR squad was 8-5 and hardly "best team ever" material.

I disagree.  The last thing we want is a conference governing anything related to our students, especially discipline. Although policies might differ from school to school with regard to the degree of punishment for certain misdeeds, that is perfectly "fair".  Students know their schools policy going in....do the crime, do the time.

Touché- and I can see that point as well. What’s good for one may not be good for the other. It’s ok to agree to disagree.

Just something I wasn’t aware of (the differences in C.O.C policies)- I just assumed that generally it would be the same at most schools.

    Moving on…

  6. The only thing I'll say in regards to the upcoming Friday games is kuddos to NP and the turnaround from one year to the next. Even though it is a lot of the same kids playing, they look like a completely different team than the 49-0 loss from last year.

As an aside - it is interesting to me how school's are allowed to have different code-of-conduct policies. Not saying what is right or wrong - but it seems like that should be an uniform thing across the conference?? I guess it would be hard to regulate? I guess schools would argue they know what is best for their athletes...but it seems weird that one kid might have to miss ___ # of games for something - but another kid at another school might only miss ___ # of games for the same thing??

Oh well, should be a good one on Friday.

    Heritage Hills (5-1) @ Mount Vernon (4-2)

    Mount Vernon High School

    Friday, September 29, 2023

    7:00 pm CST Kickoff

This is the 23rd meeting between Heritage Hills and Mount Vernon (Posey). The two teams played in the regular season every year from 1974-1981 and resumed the regular season series in 2014. They have also met four times in sectional play and once in the regional. This is a big game in the PAC Large Division between the teams that finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in 2021.

The Patriots lead the series 15-7, and like most of the Patriots opponents, in the early 70's Mount Vernon dominated the series; The Wildcats won 3 of the first 4 games. In 1978, Bob Clayton's first Patriot team turned the tides with a win and the Patriots have won 14 of the last 18 games.

Heritage Hills Coaching Records vs Mount Vernon

    • Roger Snow 1-2
    • Bob Ashworth 0-1
    • Bob Clayton 6-2
    • Todd Wilkerson 8-2

Head to Mount Vernon this Friday night to cheer on our PATRIOTS

    AND MAKE SOME NOISE!

Danville and Lebanon are growing rapidly... I think it has more to do with the future and similar size schools vs. right now.  Danville will be 4A soon, Lebanon could be push to 5A soon, meanwhile Webo will more than likely be back to 2A after this year (and remain in 2A for the foreseeable future).

Curious as to how all those neighboring schools enrollments are on the rise, yet WeBo's is not???

  9. Been keeping tabs on this from afar ....and trying to keep in mind that there are always 2 sides to every story - BUT - shouldn't the HC from Greencastle at least have to address how the score got so out of hand?? I find it hard to justify throwing that many TD passes in such a one sided contest?

The score can get out of hand and you can still handle it with class ...ie Coach McDaniel of the Dolphins kneeling on it instead of trying to set an NFL record....

I cannot remember the last time Bosse was favored against Mater Dei.  However, looking at the line, Bosse - 7, I am not certain that is enough pts.  Their D is pretty good but MD STRUGGLES to move the ball, with little speed and inconsistent rhythm in their passing attack.  If MD can run the ball and set up more favorable down & distance situations for the passing game, they have a chance.  Wow, I cannot believe I just wrote that: "If MD does....it has a chance....against Bosse..."  This is the most difficult season in recent memory for MD.

So this is the year that North Posey FINALLY breaks the 0-fer vs the mighty Wildcats??

Needs to play FB and pad the stats with at least five touchdowns.

I could probably look this up, but I'm too lazy - who won the Mr. Football award the year Cutler was a senior?? Talk about egg-on-face....future NFL QB with a long career and doesn't even win a State award??

I'm sure there are plenty of examples of that happening - but not at a spotlight position like QB

  12. Not sure why I get brought into all this - but, here it goes:

I don't know much about GS football history - having not really looked much at it. I feel very good about where we (SR) stand as a program and what we've accomplished. I think I read somewhere that over the past 20 years, we've brought home 10 sectional championships (?) - and for anyone that has walked through our hallways - they know we are fighting some challenges that most public schools do- but we would be no where close to the "effective enrollment" that Gibson has. (Titan32 term there) As one former Coach put it to me one time "Man...you might be listed as 3A, but you are really playing with 1A numbers" ...It is what it is - we do the best we can.

As far as tonight's game goes - Anyone worth their salt and that has watched any of the football the Titans have played this year will tell you - this years team is GOOOOD. Don't let the 2-2 record fool you. SR will need to play dang close to perfect to have a shot at keeping it competitive.

Much respect for the GS football program and the way they have built up their program (well...outside of the 2021 season, but we won't go there again lol) . Always look forward to playing them as they will expose any weaknesses that need to be addressed, and they play the game the right way.

  13. I think I've said it about 3 times in this thread - but this really is a problem of their own making by Indian Creek.

Release the player/don't protest the transfer - then this article probably never even gets written.

OBVIOUSLY we only have one side of the story, but from just that story - it sure does seem petty/vindictive on IC's part to protest the transfer.

  14. Why can't anyone answer the ELEPHANT in the room ...if all this went down the way the article portrays (smashed mailbox, inappropriate texts, clashing with Head Coach, etc...) - WHY ON EARTH WOULD IC NOT sign off on the transfer and just be done with the whole situation???

It makes absolutely no sense ...something doesn't add up.

My 7 main conclusions with this thread.....

    1. Let the kid transfer for his senior season and move on.  Do the right thing IHSAA!
    2. The title of this thread is one of the best in quite some time.  Well done Muda!
    3. Grover only made the comment about Lea Thompson given his marching band resume.
    4. Coach Nickerson failed Salvucci...no sugar coating that fact.
    5. Doyel is still a putz!
    6. Nickerson's play call one of the worst in history that directly led to Ampipe's loss at Walnut Heights.  Steph called him out for it and it cost him his senior season.  I do have to give him some credit for the 6-2 stack defense.
    7. Brian should have taken the scholly to USC.  Married student housing buddy!!

#1 seems like the most obvious thing ever! Seriously, I wonder what IC's motivation would be for not signing off on the transfer?? Seems extremely petty from an outsiders perspective

#6 - Always thought this was the most under-rated part of the movie. As a Coach, you got to own up to the fact you totally blew it. His reaction and facial expression after he sent the play call in tells the story. Coach totally blew the end of the game and blamed the kids for it.

  16. No idea on how this all was handled or went down - but the IHSAA hypocrisy on allowing/not allowing transfers is comical.

They (the IHSAA) are in a tough spot no doubt - but in some instances when the transfers we CLEARLY athletic driven - the IHSAA just happens to turn a blind eye.

Then- you have this Indian Creek case...and again, if what is reported is true...like, seriously??

  17. I wish I knew how to embed videos , but I'm not that tech savy. But we had a really bad one this past Saturday on a fumble recovery...ball was loose (a clear fumble- that part was not disputed), we jumped on it, they jumped on it, we jumped on it again. Somehow, the side judge had ruled one team had possession while the ball was still rolling around. Very confusing.

Its a long season. Great coaches and tough players willing to work can make a lot of improvements before tournament time. It would not shock me in the least to see MD win Sectional regardless of the regular season record.

Lots of games left to play - but North Posey might have something to say about that this year.
