    Yes both commercially and residentially.

A quick google search shows that WeBo's enrollment dropped significantly following the 2015-16, 16-17 cycle to the next 2 year window (17-18, 18-19) from 557 to 529 ....any particular reason for such a big drop?

And it looks like it has been on the decline ever since? People leaving to Lebanon? New School open up?

Well, I only saw DMs from a certain coach.  So I can’t testify to any others - only hearsay that it happens.

Whether there’s an explicit solicitation for a transfer or not, it ought to be against the rules for coaches at one member institution to initiate contact with a player from another one.

I have no issue with transfers, in general.  But tampering isn’t appropriate.

    Yup.

I’m not sure I’d expect that to continue…could be wrong.

I've beat this drum for a couple years now - but doesn't get much pub as its not a place that most (especially on a football forum) want to go.

I would venture to guess less than 15% of Head Coaches (in football) are actually in charge of CORE class instruction. (I know, I know PE teachers...it is just as important. And I agree) . The demands of curriculum, lesson plans, Admin pressure, have become just too much to do a good job and try and run a successful program.

And this is not a slight and/or insult, I think just the reality of the job nowadays.

I would be interested to know if Coach Mann is remaining in his Math position.

  4. Mann, who teaches geometry and algebra, said he counts those state championship-winning coaches among his friends and mentors. Mann also coached on Mark Haste’s staff at North Central from 2006-08 and Keith Shelton in 2009 and ’10 before moving over to Lawrence Central to coach with West. After the Bears won the Class 5A state title in 2012, Mann joined West at Warren Central, which won the first 6A title in 2013.

    Bravo Coach....bravo.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Memorial's QB position next season (assuming he's eligible, which is a whole other discussion).

I've never seen the kid play.  I know he got some varsity time when Boyd was hurt -- but they didn't pass much in those games.  They passed quite a bit in his JV games, tho.

And there's also the issue of Fisher and baseball.  He considers that his primary sport.

He can make every throw you'd want out of a high school QB.

In 2020- 2 of our best players had DI baseball scholarships- but they loved to play and compete. That's what high school sports should be all about. (Granted, we lost a BIGGIE to baseball only - but - that was understandable. If you're going to get drafted, then you get a pass)

Heard the same thing about Tecumseh to the PAC Small School Division, could shape up both divisions of SR is sent to the Big School Division

If I'm not mistaken- as it stands (or was)- the PAC was split evenly with 6 schools in both the Big and Small Divisions.

With the addition of Tecumseh, and don't get me started on their story - one division will have an odd # - so "shape up both divisions" is not mathematically possible.

SR already plays Gibson, Boonville, and HH on their schedule. And in most years, TC and NP are better games than Washington and Princeton would be...so, what do divisions really matter in that sense?

  7. I've beaten this drum for a number of years on the GID - but with the demands of instruction and curriculum, the days of the "classroom coach" (talking Head Coach) is becoming more and more rare.

PE, advanced PE, strength, "director of sports performance" (this was a new one to me!), etc...seem to be the Head guy's role anymore.

Not saying right/wrong/indifferent - just observations.

    Congrats to Coach Hart.

"Hart will also fill the director of sports performance position at North Central."

Always of interest to me when a HC is hired, what position (if any) he will fill within the school corporation.

Can someone explain to me what the above position is?? Assuming "director of sports performance" is like a strength coach?

Unless you have a personal relationship with Coach Mason or in some way are connected to the situation, I’m not sure how any of us can speculate as to why he made this decision. I’ve heard plenty of things about the situation, but it’s not worth discussing without any first-hand info. From what he said, I can tell you that educators, including coaches, all over feel a split between the admin and them in terms of what they think is best for the kids. If schools want to attract and retain good coaches, they need to provide support for what they’re trying to accomplish on the team and in the school. A good coach won’t be caught dead for long in a school district without support. Eastside may struggle to get a solid replacement for this reason.

What I do know is Eastside will greatly miss Mason’s leadership and the football program may struggle in terms of discipline, motivation and all of the other things that Mason did so well. Hopefully they have someone on staff who can continue the type of program that Mason built. He was one of the best in NE IN and won’t be easy to replace. I wish him the best and will miss the annual week 2 showdown between Mason and Mosser!

100% agree - and normally I would never bring up/discuss a coaches hire and/or departure - but in this instance I felt the Coach opened up that can of worms by mentioning "institutional transparency and collaboration" - and I was just curious as to what, in fact, that actually meant?

Not sure it was Eastside's admin but more of state & federal government requirements after I read & thought about it. He isn't wrong when they care about standardized testing to get $ than preparing students for life.

So give up Coaching and leading a program because of State-wide standardized testing??? Not sure I "buy" that...in reading the article, it seemed more "localized" than that.

You can see it at the link and I appreciate the frankness in this paragraph:

My resignation is not the result of a single event, single person or season. My tenure at Eastside has been riddled with challenges, yet not from parents or student-athletes. The lack of institutional transparency and collaboration has left me exhausted mentally, physically and spiritually. I have lost my hope and belief that our educational leaders are willing to make decisions that are solely for the best for our students.

Why so vague?? I mean, kuddos for not just giving the "cookie-cutter" resignation speech/interview (i.e. time with family, done all I could, etc..) - but if you're gonna go the route of throwing Administration under the bus, why not be clear in your reasoning??

No argument that Castle punches below its weight.  Sheer numbers should help to offset the P/P enrollment advantage.  My mistake on recent all sports trophies.

I am working on some more concrete data but I am firmly convinced we aren't even close to ERM as NP is no where close to MD.  Just using the eye test over the past decade we put a product on the field probably much closer to MD than we do ERM.  This is why I have never really seen ERM as a "rival" ...more of a goliath that we had a couple opportunities to try and slay.  If they do private right....noone in 3A should be able to touch them under the current broken system.  We all know enrollment alone doesn't consider the student population factors.  We have plenty of soccer only kids....baseball only kids as well (that probably a pretty ubiquitous challenge across publics and privates).....doesn't change the fact we are pulling from a smaller pool of quality success driven student athletes in the building per capita enrollment.

I'm not sure about that statement. Just my opinion from someone who has had experience with both on the football field.

Whenever I look at our student population, we have some kids in special needs classes that do count towards our enrollment that could never be included in a pool of students involved in extra curriculars. When I pulled up Mater Dei and Providence's faculty members, they do not seem to have a special education department. I think this sir is what you are eluding to. I've coached kids that have had to quit playing football and other sports because they have had to work to help support their family. Probably not a common thing at Mater Dei. All enrollments are not equal.

I don't have a big problem with any school recruiting kids for any reason. I just think everyone should be held to the same set of rules if they are competing against each other. Maybe the IHSAA should set some restrictions on movement such as a student can only have full eligibility for the school they begin the school with, unless there is a physical move.

Haha....this would affect probably more publics than it would privates.

While the OBVIOUS advantages the P/P's have - and have been discussed at nauseum on this forum ( with good reason) - an issue that is becoming more and more apparent throughout the State is the "poaching" and/or transferring of players. I know the IHSAA is doing the best they can - but to me they are failing massively. It it looks like a duck, and smells like a duck....well you get what I'm saying. Some of these transfers are SO PAINFULLY obvious, yet they are allowed.

Freedom of choice, yada yada. I get it...I'm just asking if that's what we want HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS to turn into?? Basically AAU athletics?

Without getting into details and naming names (which I don't think is appropriate on a public forum), I know for certain that the last three southern 3A public representatives for the State finals have had numerous players that transferred in and started for the Varsity programs at some point in their high school careers.

ps. Just bump P/P's up a class - it is REALLY that simple.

So back to talk about the game. Are there any Lawrenceburg fans that can tell me if there was ever a real attempt by the team to develop a passing side of the playbook during their season? I realize they are a running team and that served them very well during the year. Winning games 47=0 is great when you have a strong defense and can run teams into submission but at some point every team has to throw the ball. I just don’t understand why they didn’t give their QB chances during the season (they threw about 6 passes a game) to work on some short to intermediate passing concepts. Even against subpar competition it helps develop rhythm and confidence. That seems to be the real flaw in their preparation and it likely cost them the state title. They have some really good players and will likely continue to make long runs in the playoffs (at least in the near future) but I wouldn’t be surprised if being one dimensional continued to cost them in some big games.

LOL....you clearly haven't seen Lawrenceburg much in the past couple years - they could throw it around the lot and were quite good at it.

Good coaches coach to their players strength - L-Burg knew where their bread was buttered this year and made it to Lucas.

  15. I can't speak for Lawrenceburg, but I wonder if this year seems kind of ironic - to be playing in Lukas Oil?? Surely with a ND recruit and the Yoon kid at QB and the stellar WR they had, along with all others, they have to of had that class pegged to be playing for a State Championship?? Only for it to happen the year after??

I know nothing of Chatard this year, - their history suggest they will be very good.

The reality is Mater Dei has been fortunate in the timing of most of their deep runs.  Last year was year 2 of previous SF cycle and this is year 1 of new 2-year cycle.  They finished with 5 pts, 1 shy of 6 needed to be bumped  up to 3A. This has happened a couple of times since the SF was implemented.  fwiw, many see next year to be a bit of a "rebuilding" year so uncertain what to expect.  Lots of talk about current frosh and 8th grade teams as next back to back classes with a good deal of football talent from what I have heard.  Time will tell.

Trust me - we know how the SF works.

    Good luck this weekend.

  17. Unpopular opinion forthcoming (just delete or keep scrolling on if you don't like what you read):

The lines between "Public Schools Forever - Catholic Schools Never!!!" are becoming increasingly blurry. I don't think I necessarily cast blame- in order to "keep up with the Jones's" and compete at the State level (in any sport really, not just isolated to football)- more and more PUBLIC schools are "reaching" outside their school districts (ala "transfers/recruits") to plug holes of positions in need or just bolster their line-ups.

We all know it/have seen it to be true. Don't shoot the messenger here fellas

Still doesn't fix the "effective enrollment" advantage of P/P's- and it's still an uphill climb no doubt, but certain public's have found a loophole in the force.
