Ok. First of all- big congrats to the Titans, coaches, and their fans on reaching the big dance. (Is this really your all’s first trip). We in the PAC knew it was a long time coming. Enjoy the experience and I fully expect you all to win the blue ring."

    - Boy, you surely don't take compliments very well.

    - I never once have came on here and trashed what GS has built and how good of a program they've become. You may take it that way - but I've said all year, once I saw the product on the field, that this GS team was a State Championship caliber team. I simply questioned if they would be in this spot if not for some pretty impactful ....well, you know. And they very well, and probably would, still be in the same spot. But I don't think that's an out-of-line question to ask?

    - I could have gone into the rumors of how certain acquisitions have been made- but I really don't/didn't want a back/forth with the Titan posters. That is obviously a no-win situation. You all are extremely passionate and proud, as you should be. I would say respectful, but you seem to take pleasure in trashing our program, that I would feel has been not to shabby itself.

I think I'll sign off now and deactivate my account, as this has become too toxic of a place for me.

    Best of luck on Friday.

I see what you did there lol.  A team that was 1 play away in 2019.  Funny how 3 football plays over the years, that if had went the other way, would have significant slowed the trolls Dubois County.  It’s all good, good luck over the next decade.

Exactly my point. What went from tight, nip/tuck competitive contest the past couple years absolutely exploded to non-competitive running clocks. Various factors contribute of course...losing 21 starters on our end was gonna be a challenge anyway- but roster additions certainly played a role as well I would think. Crucify me all you want- just pointing out the obvious.

As far as the next decade...If you want to get into the demographics of increasing enrollment and the pipeline of Illinois talent GS seems to be attracting- it’s not exactly a comparable deck of cards.

GS is building a Center Grove like dynasty down in SW Indiana- that much is clear.

Better check again….#70 has been in the GS program since he was a 1st grader.  Love to keep hearing from a butt hurt Raider fan realizing they won’t beat GS for at least the next 10 years.  Gonna be fun to watch you have a meltdown each year.

Second- I’ve never resorted to insults/name calling on here. Seems silly. BUT, I’m not going to ignore the BIG elephant in the room, and I think it is fair to wonder/question how a team that had yet to even win a sectional, even with a DI QB, went from that- to damn near running clock every postseason opponent on their way to State. I don’t think it’s out-of-line to point out significant roster changes??

That said, I don’t want to be “that guy/troll” that tries to sour the experience - so I’ll just sign off and wish you the best of luck.

  4. After a blazing start by the Titans, looks like both teams played about even the second quarter. But as I suspected, Tri-West looks simply out-classed in this one.

#43 from Gibson is super impressive on D. I don't see him on last years roster??

And #63/#70 also are stonewalls on the offensive line - don't see them on last years roster either??

Aren't all of them seniors?? What gives??

    From SW Indiana it’s simple.
    1. Memorial

    2. Mater Dei

    3. Heritage Hills

    4. GS/Southridge

    5. ummm nobody.

biggest factor is tournament success. Regular season records are hard to compare because of how incredibly soft some conferences are.

I don’t know if there is a prefect metric when trying to put together a list like this. Even comparing the # of sectional titles can be skewed as some sectionals are much tougher than others.

I will point out SR has 4 State Tital appearances while HH has 3....and GS has none (to this point- that will change in about 5 hours).

  6. Blocked FG and/or Punt behind the line of scrimmage (4th down)...live ball. Defense picks it up and attempts return - makes it about 10 yards and fumbles, original offense recovers.

1st and 10 for the original offense? (The team attempting FG/Punt)

And then...does this enforcement change if it was 3rd down?

  7. Out of a possible 5 games so far in the tournament (3 in sectional, a regional, and now a semi-state) , who has had the LEAST amount of home games and done the most traveling?

On the flip side, who has had the "dream draw" and played most of their games at home?? (I'm assuming there hasn't been anyone who has been able to host every round?)

I always find it interesting how some teams seem to get more home games during the tourney...would like to see the results. Thanks

I don't think this is a blow out or a 3+ score win for either team.  I'll take TW at home 38-35.  It's a homer Sagamore pick... Let's remember how all of the Southern Indiana Teams that have played Sagamore Schools in semi-states the last few years have faired... Webo drilled Southridge in 2018, Webo Drilled Triton Central (who beat Mater Dei) in 2019, Webo drilled Mater Dei in 2020, Danville Drilled Southridge in 2020.  Heritage Hills did get Danville in 2019 however...

Granted - we (SR) have not put our best foot forward in those contest. I could provide a myriad of reasons, but doesn't change the fact that we just got it handed to us.

That said - I still don't think TW has any idea what it is up against.

  9. MAN - WHAT A GAME! Very happy that I choose to attend this in person.

First of all- hats off the Lawrenceburg Tigers. Having seen them the past 2 years, I knew that they had a hungry bunch of seniors and that their QB was a gamer - but I honestly just didn't think they had what it took to run with this Titan squad...and honestly, at 28-7 in the 3rd, I was thinking this was going to be another GS cakewalk (and if I'm being honest, I wonder if the Titans themselves didn't breathe a little sigh themselves)

But, ol "Mr. Mo" is a funny thing, and as the Tiger comeback started to roll, you could feel the energy in the stadium start to shift. It made for a very entertaining last 12 minutes or so.

What a job #63 and #70 did blocking that beast from Lawrenceburg...not sure he had a sack the entire game (although he did affect numerous plays)...#43 from GS was EVERYWHERE on defense, and even caught a TD pass and did some H-back blocking, and then #13 in the backfield for the Titans sure seemed to rip off some runs right when GS could feel it slipping.

Kuddos to the Titans - sure is an exciting time for you all and I hope you win the whole thing.

    COACHES’ QUOTES:

Ryan Knigga, Lawrenceburg (98-34, 11th year) - "There is no doubt Gibson Southern has a high-powered offense. We need to keep their WRs in front of us and we;ve got to tackle in open space when they do catch the ball. We have told our guys we're not expecting to shut them out. We just need to make them drive the ball and not give up the home run. Gibson Southern has a really nice screen game. You've got to be careful and pick when you want to bring pressure. We need to bring pressure and we've got to get home with our blitzes. We can't allow Brady to just sit in the pocket. We will need to mix coverages, show coverages and stem into new ones. We will try everything we have in our playbook, plus more. Defensively, our players and coaches are looking forward to the challenge. Gibson Southern looks like a cool place to play. It is the only show in town. The EC vs. Memorial game will be over, so they are even expecting some of those fans to come on up. This long road trip definitely creates some logistics issues. Right now, trying to find a bus to get us there has been impossible. We will do what we need to do to be ready. I really don't think the trip plays a factor into it. In 2017 we got beat by a better team. Memorial won state that year, so they were just better. We'll travel the right way and take care of our kids. Hopefully they can enjoy the experience and play at a high level. No. 80, Heltsley, No. 11, Malone, are very good WRs. Their offensive line is huge. They average about 6'4" and 275. And defensive their front 7 is really good. We are healthy. Like all teams at this point, we have bumps and bruises. But 13 weeks into the season, that is expected. Luke Pierce is day-to-day. We'll see. Teagan Bennett did an outstanding job last week. We like our team and we will have guys ready to play. It's obvious we will need to play very well on both sides of the ball. We must find a way to limit Gibson Southern's offense. We will need to manage the game when we have the ball. We will need to control their front seven. We will swing away. There are a ton of keyboard experts who are not giving us a chance. I told our kids that. That is the beautiful thing about sports. You've got to play the game. We know we have a good team, we know we will need to play well. We are one of 8 teams left. There are no bad teams left. The good news for us is that we have no pressure. Everyone is expecting Gibson Southern to be the state champs. I don't know, but I do know the Tigers will do everything we can do to win the game. We are proud of our kids and we know they will fight. We hope to play well and give ourselves a shot."

Hey look guys - we got some recognition!!

I get playing up the underdog/disrespect card. That can be a powerful motivator

BUT- I still think they are barking up the wrong tree in this situation.

MAYBE if this was a "normal" thing for GS and they've "been there/done that" type of scenario - but this GS is foaming at the bit for their turn at the blue ring.

    Sorry Tigers, bad timing.

ps.....How in the world can they NOT find a bus?? I'm assuming he means a chartered one?? If not, I'm sure we have school buses they can borrow.

I think this is the toughest game GS faces until Thanksgiving weekend, and even then, I think GS is a pretty clear favorite.

L-burg has been waiting on this bunch to become seniors - and they are a talented bunch, but they ran into BAD TIMING on this one. L-Burg's QB is the real deal, but in the end, I don't think it's going to matter.

Anything can happen in HS football, but I don't see any way this season ends without the Titans holding the big trophy at the end.

  12. Always enjoy your write up's and passion for Miner football.

However one critique I could offer from a journalistic standpoint - it's bad form if you're going to use players name in an unflattering moment in the game (ie "Ralph was pancaked" ) and not use the same verbiage when speaking of Miner mistakes. (ie "a couple missed tackles")

    Just an observation

  13. Weird indeed??

To my understanding, the de facto start time is 7:00 PM est on Friday night if the 2 teams can’t come to an understanding??

This 6:30 start time would again imply a little “gamenship” on Triton Centrals part.

I have no idea if that’s the case...but the 11 AM Saturday a couple years ago would fit with this narrative.

Personally, I’m always a little disappointed when the hosting team tries to play “hardball” on postseason times. You’re just on the good side of the draw,
