Linton isn't going to take anyone lightly.  The Miners are still just getting everything together. The coaches are working to get the right people in the right spots.  Also they haven't had a full squad the last two games.  I think they will be close to full strength this Friday, although a couple are still out with injury.  The potential is there for lots of improvement.  As for the ending of the Southridge series, I'm not sure who dropped whom.  I rather think it was a mutual agreement.

Not the case. SR was willing to stay in the agreement....Linton wanted out.

I live in SE Indiana and work with four schools.  I also keep tabs with former teachers and friends I worked with in Northern Indiana.  A general pattern that seems to be developing in a malaise or apathy from student bodies.  Numbers in many extracurriculars are down.  A few students at most places seem to be doing the heavy lifting of keeping clubs and activities going.  Not all this is on the students either.  Teachers aren't as involved as a result of workloads.  Parents are overworked and don't seem to push students into sports or clubs. I am sure this is a great sociology case study into this somewhere.  What can be done  to turn this around?  Those schools that aren't experiencing this, what is the secret.

Great topic. I've said this for a number of years now...but it is becoming harder/harder to be a core subject teacher/coach.

HH- its hard to go into the jungle and win

    TC- flip of coin

GS- Starters will rest the second half

    MV- Princeton has zero chance

SS- SS is the better of the two.

NP - NP is looking pretty good right now.  if this game was at SR I would pick SR

NP has many seniors that are now three year starters, this week is their opportunity to prove that they belong in the conversation as best in the small PAC. Can they match SR's physicality? Can they limit their mistakes? With only three juniors on the roster, can all the sophomores and freshmen who are starting elevate their play? I have high hopes...

    Alright then. Duly noted

In defense of the IHSAA (I've never said that before), wasn't the issue with the kid (I think you're referring to) that the mother was pretty vocal with demands and they tried to get cute with a change of address?

Personally I think the IHSAA should stay out of it and let kids go wherever they want.  What I enjoy is that these transfers cut against the frequently heard argument from rural public schools that urban p/p's have an advantage because they can "recruit" from a larger area.   I'm just guessing, but I suspect these transfers aren't coming because of the FFA program at GS, unless Brady Allen is the club chairperson...

    I actually tend to agree.

Yup, though I thought it was for a different reason. But won’t say his name in here since it’s not confirmed

For goodness sake- this is getting a bit ridiculous. The IHSAA wouldn’t let a transfer play basketball for a year, but GS can get 3 new transfer starters and all is on the up/up??

  6. So has GS become the new “transfer U” of Southern Indiana??

Neighboring schools, neighboring States...come one, come all I guess?

I assume it’s all on the up/up with the IHSAA, so more power to them- but will anyone still have a fighting chance with all these move-ins??

  7. I don't know about this topic?? Just looking at our recent history:

In 2017 - won the State Championship in 2A (not bad for a public school)

In 2018 - were knocked out in Semi-State by PUBLIC 2A Western Boone

In 2019 - thanks to success factor, moved up to 3A and were knocked out in Sectionals by PUBLIC 3A Heritage Hills ( eventual State Runner Up)

In 2020 - made the 3A Southern Semi-State, and again, were knocked out by PUBLIC Danville

Point being - there seems to be more public schools than Pioneer making noise in the tourney??

I certainly would assume so…especially this far into the offseason.

this is exciting news though.  My senior year of high school was Coach Harts 1st season as coach for the football team (2012?) and let me tell you the difference in atmosphere in the school once he arrived immediately changed….for all sports… he brought an energy to the football team and it spread like wildfire in the best way.  GS sports really became a pride and joy for the community and many of the kids and it definitely shows still

beyond that, I think this shows another level of commitment to the Gibson Southern community….it seems like every year there are a few talking heads that ask if Coach Hart will ever consider leaving GS for reitz or a college program or some other big school gig..and this kinda just makes me think all of that can be put to rest.  Taking the position as AD, at least in my opinion, means he is going to be sticking around for a while…and that’s always good news

What position did Coach Hart hold in the school system ?

First off, I'm excited to join the conversation with you gentlemen in regards to this great game we share an affinity for. Only 74 days until kickoff. I'm ready for some gosh dang football already. Year one in the PAC for my Hatchets led to the most victories in a season in four years and first sectional victory since 2017. The end of the season left a bad taste in the mouths of Hatchet Nation as our boys advanced to the sectional championship for the first time in about a decade...only to see the season ended by COVID-19 contact tracing. That team was very senior laden with about a hand full continuing their gridiron careers at the next level, plus QB Trey Reed signing to play baseball at Indiana St.

I am very curious to see how they fair in year two under Coach Morris. Will the postseason success (relative) from last year be momentum that they carry into the upcoming season? They open up in week 1 against an opponent I don't believe they've played before in the West Vigo Vikings. I, for one, haven't seen the Vikings play since the early 2010s when I played against them. They had only one season under .500 in the past six seasons, so I believe this can be an early test to set where my Hatchets stand. Looks like there is no week 2 opponent so far, therefore they get an extra week to prepare for GS. Brady Allen and Co. will invade historic Hatchet Hallow and give the Hatchets all they can handle I'm sure. Weeks 4-6 provide the Hatchets with ample opportunities to pick up some Ws. Back-to-back rivalry games against North Daviess and Pike Central will surely provide some excitement as they are both trophy games and I know Coach Morris and Co. would love to keep those in town for the year. Princeton will be Princeton and I think the Hatchets will win a bit more comfortably after last season's last minute victory. Weeks 7-9 will test the Hatchet's toughness as they go through what I believe to be a gauntlet to end the season. If they can sneak away with a victory in any of these weeks (HH, Boonville, MV) I would be ecstatic! If the Hatchets can finish in the top three of the Sectional 30 standings and get the right draw, I think they will get the chance to compete for that elusive first sectional championship in program history that was taken away from last year's squad.

And the common denominator that has been on Every One of those teams is not the name everyone is thinking. Camden Gasser is one of the best all around athletes to ever come through Southridge and in a way has always been living in the shadows of Colson Montgomery. I firmly believe half of those titles are wiped off the board without Camden. Having these two in this class and the hard work and preparation they put into their respective sports has been simply fascinating to watch these last 4 years. Southridge has always been a football school. At times, a basketball school, but this class alone has made Southridge a Baseball School.

I purposely didn’t include any individuals in my post (obviously there has been OUTSTANDING athletes to make 8 of 11 happen- but also takes a lot more than that) - nor do I like “labeling” a school - just wanted to give public props for quite an accomplishment.

  11. I know this is a football forum - but just wanted to give a shout-out to the Southridge senior class on their 3rd straight (COVID knocked out what could have been a 4 for 4 peat for them) baseball sectional, this one in 3A after being bumped up.

This senior class, in their time in the hallways, has brought an incredible 8 sectional championships in a possible 11 tries in the "big 3" sports. (Football, basketball, and baseball).

Dating back to their freshman years, they have went

    3 for 4 in football sectionals (2017, 2018, and 2020)

    2 for 4 in basketball sectionals (2017 & 2021)

    3 for 3 in baseball (2018, 2019, & 2021)

Obviously an accomplishment like this doesn't come from just them, as they were surrounded by awesome classes in their own right - but still- a run like that I may never see again in my coaching career.

    Kuddos to them.

So much controversy in this thread

if we are going to talk about GS so much why don’t we talk about how Rory Heltsley who has picked up 3 offers this offseason...and might have more on the way

    So Far:

    Air Force,

    Morehead State

    Brown (Ivy league)

spending all this time chirping about whatever and talking negatively.....but you got a stud who is seeing his hard work pay off...and people aren’t noticing

    What position does he play?

When Banks transferred to Heritage Hills in January from Central he had to sit out 1 year from date enrolled at HH meaning No Football at all and No Basketball until January, When the Newton kid transferred from South Spencer a few year back to HH he was JV  only his Junior season and not eligible for Varsity until week 5 of Senior season so the answer is NO HH is  not immune.

As far as the above rumor how about waiting until its actually verified before speculating on if the transfer is for athletic reasons.

BTW: I don't remember Jacob Masterson sitting out any games when he transferred from HH to Southridge .

    Just observing from afar...

  14. 32 sure knows how to "deflect" any questionable discussion regarding his beloved Titans. In every instance someone has brought up/questioned the D-I transfer, he's moved the discussion in another direction!

And maybe that's because there isn't a lot to discuss?? Family move, releasing school had no issue, then done deal. Just curious how that all played out?? Ya know, since a certain basketball player from down South was forced to sit a year for what was deemed as an "athletic transfer"

Personally - I could care less...Gibson won't need any help this upcoming year the way it is. They're going to be a monster to deal with.

Mt. Vernon has a former Raider running the controls now - won't be too much longer and he'll have them in the mix EVERY year.

How would this player be eligible?  Seems like a purely move for athletic reasons, which would be limited eligibility.

I'm assuming it was some type of "family move" - which pretty much ties up the IHSAA hands when it comes to that.

    Rich get richer it seems...

Tech actually WAS building something in the mid-2010s.  Anyone who watched their 2012 and 2013 teams would have recognized those teams as formidable despite their roughly .500 record (which was more than respectable given their schedule those 2 years).   As I recall, they lost a nail-biter to Carmel one of those years.

Then the wheels came off immediately thereafter and it was back to mediocrity.  BUT there was a brief time when they demonstrated it WAS possible at Tech.

I might not have used the phrase “work harder” that @Grover used but I absolutely agree with his point and what I think his intent was.  Programs can change but it takes buy-in at every level...including and especially at home after school and practice is over.  But “Working Harder” to me isn’t just simply about what kids do in practice - it’s about coaches, administrators, students and parents.

The most difficult part in most any task is just getting started the right way with appropriate forethought, planning and tools followed by actual effort.  Once started,  the inertia then moves in the direction of success rather than the reverse.

Not to continue to beat this drum but Publics like Center Grove and New Pal have shown the path.   I won’t disagree that the socioeconomics make it a different (and more difficult) animal at Tech but they were on a successful path just a handful of years ago but it wasn’t sustained.

    Understatement of the thread.

  17. Meant to ask this question sometime ago...but what does the rule read presently on onside kicks in regards to kicking formation?? Specifically, the number of players that must be on one side of the kicker vs the other?? Is it 5 and 5 ?? 6 and 4??

And with that in mind, how in the world is the "bunch behind the kicker" surprise onside a legal thing?? Wouldn't/shouldn't that be considered an illegal formation??

    Thanks
