  1. Final play of the game. QB is going to Notre Dame.
  2. Cost a team a Louisiana State Championship. https://www.outkick.com/sports/high-school-football-team-one-kneel-down-from-state-title-youll-never-guess-what-happened-next
  3. Are there any pre-season meetings conducted by officials where coaches attend to try and get a better understanding of these issues?
  4. The OHSAA was getting sued by a star wide receiver from Huber Heights Wayne (same school that ND's Marcus Freeman attended) for prohibiting NIL. Judge issued a temporary restraining order against the OHSAA. OHSAA did a very quick vote of their membership, and it passed, 400+ to 100+ with almost 1/3 of the schools abstaining. Rules are that no NIL activities can be done on school property, in uniform, or during the school day.
  5. Problem with flipping back and forth, at least while it was live, is frequently getting that "Welcome the the IHSAA Champions Network brought to you by Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance" message. There didn't seem to be any consistency to it.
  6. Looks like they basically filled the lower bowl of the stadium. Place holds 65,000. St. Xavier scored 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to beat Elder 42-34
  7. Thanks. I am aware of the reason for the bye week. Just wondering if there was a specific reason to have it the first week of the tournament rather than the week before Thanksgiving.
  8. Just curious...Does anybody know/remember the reasoning for having the off-week at the beginning of the tournament vs. before the championship game? You're interrupting a routine of a game each week, but you do get time to heal some injuries.
  9. This occurred in a big time game in California. Besides all kinds of spiking after touchdowns, taunting, excess celebration that were not penalized, this play was on the final touchdown. Should this have been penalized? Happens at the 23:43 mark
  10. Well, it happened for the first time in 48 years, a successful fair catch kick in the NFL. I understand this is also legal to do in high school, but interestingly not in college (NCAA). Two questions... 1) Does time have to be at 0:00 to do this? Or after any fair catch? 2) Have any of you officials seen this attempted in your years on the field?
  11. Are travel arrangements for the team (hotel pick, etc) done by the schools themselves? The TV guy keeps mentioning seeing players in the hotel.
  12. Illegal participation occurred in 2 different games today, it seems both times it wasn't called until the offense had lined up ready to go. Please explain.
  13. I know it's all part of the game, but kudos to the referee on that 80 yd TD pass early in the game. Because he called Roughing the passer, he had to run back to the 20 to pick up his flag and then back to the other end for the conversion.
  14. I think that should have been an incomplete pass they ruled as a fumble around the 10 on the NewPal drive. Saw it live and on the replay board
  15. The Unsportsmanlike penalty near the end of the game. Came after 1st down. Chain gang seemed confused and scoreboard had it 1st and 25. Chains ultimately moved back to 1st and 10. Was that correct?
  16. I don't read Doyel often, only when he writes something controversial and it makes national news or when someone points him out, as in this situation. I personally find him entertaining and thought provoking. The most eye-opening case of "transfer-itis" I remember from my younger days (mid 1970's) was basketball star Bruce Grimm. Triton, Rochester, and Plymouth High Schools and Providence and Furman Universities.
  17. Easy question. Are there separate coin flips for each game to decide home and away, or just one flip that determines the homes teams for all the games (North or South)
  18. I realize this is an extremely minor infraction, if it is one. I was watching the Brownsburg-LN game last night and #8 (I believe) on LN was wearing an IU emblem towel or something around his waist. Is that technically allowed?
  19. Well, Jordan Faison is an integral part of Notre Dame's 2-time National Championship Lacrosse squad AND a frequently targeted WR on the football team.
  20. https://wibc.com/484817/ihsaa-responds-to-complaint-filed-by-danville-football/
  21. OK, what I saw in a game now makes sense. For OT, the coaches went out for the coin toss. I didn't realize that the captains meeting at the beginning of the game was a reenactment.
  22. I'm not sure how this relates/compares to the Indiana discussion, but in Ohio there are 711 football playing high schools. Exactly one of them has a total enrollment over 3,000 and only 19 more have an enrollment over 2,000.
  23. Has the rule changed over the years regarding penalties on scoring plays? I seem to remember in the past, you had to decline the penalty to keep the points. If you accepted, then the points came off the board. However, recently, I see more situations where the points stay and the penalty is enforced on the kickoff. Can someone explain how all that works and whether it's the same at all levels?
  24. There's actually a video out there that shows the offender giving a quick glance to the side official as he approached the line, but then looking back in so fast that he wouldn't have been able to process anything the official relayed to him.
  25. Should he have been warned? Does the Referee's explanation make sense that he wasn't warned because he was so blatantly offside (linesman couldn't see the ball? While we're at it, I was listening to Rich Eisen, and he was pointing out that the right tackle was not lined up legally.
