  1. Unfortunately, I won't be able to travel from Dayton, OH to see this one. But, it should be a great game. I just watched Warsaw dismantle a good Carroll team. Kept the ball for the ENTIRE 3rd quarter and then scored on the first play of the 4th. I've never see that before. I don't believe they thew it once all night. Bart Ball, they call it. Penn, on the other hand, had no trouble with Elkhart. What a game it should be! Game will be at Penn.
  2. What if the contact occurs while the ball is in the air, but before it is tipped?
  3. I'm not real familiar with the Adams QB situation. Did he play in the Penn game on Friday? And now he's with Riley?
  4. Thanks, I learned something!
  5. Another interesting period for the officials is 1:20:00 through 1:28:00 in the above video. The game was delayed and the Elkhart coach got mad.
  6. Watch the video below at 1:57:00. There's a good replay from the side. I guess it depends on how a "pile" is defined.
  7. Bobref answered that question 4 comments above yours. That goes into effect when the referee whistles the ball ready for play.
  8. So, if the NIC goes to 7 games next year, which one of the following gets dropped for Penn? Mishawaka - I'd hate to see that one dropped so soon Valpo - seems like this is a lifetime contract 🙂 Cathedral/Carmel - Can't remember if the Cathedral contract finished this year, but I believe Carmel is the eventual replacement
  9. Mercy rule: Thanks for the info. OT: I Googled to see what their current rules are. Ohio evidently not adhering to NFHS standard, per items 2 and 8 in this document: https://ohsaaweb.blob.core.windows.net/files/Sports/Football/2022/FBOvertimeRules2022.pdf
  10. I live in Ohio, originally from Indiana. The only game I've seen in OH in the past several years was Penn at Cincinnati St. Xavier and I can't remember if they had the 40-second clock. But, I do know (from that game) that their mercy rule is such that they go back to regular timing if the score difference goes back under the threshold. Also, I remember in a Ben Davis at Cincinnati Elder game from many years ago that they put the ball on the 20 for overtime.
  11. I turned it on just in time to see Cathedral intercept a pass at their own 2, then have a 5-yard penalty, followed by a safety. Then Douglass scores on the next possession. 21-19 Cathedral at the end of 3.
  12. I realize this is not on the topic of High School football, but it occurred in a CFL game my family attended last weekend in Toronto and it really surprised me. I knew all the different rules regarding 3 downs, running starts towards the line of scrimmage, no fair catches, etc. But early in the game a running back fumbled and the ball deflected off a defensive player and rolled out of bounds. They gave the ball to the defense! Turns out the last team to TOUCH it gets it! Interesting.
  13. 1983 4A Penn vs. Indianapolis Washington Last State Finals game played outdoors
  14. I don't think Coach Shattuck is at Elkhart any longer. Their current coach is Romison Saint-Louis.
  15. The play at 25:50...was it correctly blown dead? There was a fumble on the play, and when the down was replayed the QB ran 50 yards for a score.
  16. If we were back on the points system for tournament eligibility, then I COULD POSSIBLY see Muda69's point about in-state schools. But, currently, the regular season is meaningless in that regard. The tournament is a totally separate IHSAA-controlled schedule, with no connection to the regular season. If you win it you're champs!
  17. Is my memory failing me, or did I read a few months back that a regular season series between the two had been established? Yet Carmel's schedule on the Harrell site doesn't show it.
  18. They have...Lakewood St. Edward (Bobref's alma mater near Cleveland), Cincinnati Moeller, and Louisville Trinity.
  19. I read somewhere that Penn and Carmel signed a 4-year contract. Penn's contract with Cincinnati St. X is done, so maybe Carmel will be the replacement.
  20. My mistake, it said the Male coach consulted replay. Also, to see the comment from the former official Ben Nelson, you'd have to watch it in the normal YouTube window.
  21. This popped up in my suggested YouTubes. It was stated that the officials consulted replay. Interested in your opinion of Ben Nelson's (former official) comment after the video.
  22. There have been previous discussions about re-sequencing the state finals games based on multiple games involving teams from the same geographical area. It never gained traction. But, situations like the one above could have been recognized immediately after the semi-state games and a schedule adjustment for the finals could have been made accordingly.
  23. I do not personally know Chuck, never met him, but do know about him, and would be surprised to hear that he has such an attitude about the situation. Also, I find it surprising that the IHSAA is allowing someone (purporting to be "in the know") to engage in such opinionated banter about IHSAA policies/decisions, etc.
  24. Their last championship was in '75, the last year of the original playoff setup, only 3 classes and 4 teams per class.
  25. I agree totally. I remember when Chuck was a student at Elkhart Central in the 80's. He used to call into a local weekly sports talk show and made no secret that he wanted to become a broadcaster and he has become a very good one.
