Two legendary Indiana D3 coaches have retired. Bill Lynch announced his retirement earlier this week from DePauw and Mike Leonard announced his retirement today. These are two great men who have given so much to developing great leaders very much under the radar. They will both be hard to replace.

First met Bill Lynch as an undergrad at Butler.  Quality guy.

For whatever reason I’ve become a Kyle Larson fan....not exactly sure why.  But I think it’s because Jimmy Boy’s neighbors’ cousins’ uncle watched Larson win a race the EXACT same night Danville beat Chatard WHATEVER year that was.  At least that’s what Bobby Cox said.....😂

Larson is cut from the Tony Stewart mold.  Pure racer....midgets, sprints, late models.....anything with four wheels....dirt or asphalt.  Lot of respect for him..

My neighbor is a fan too.  Haven’t talked with his cousin’s neighbor quite yet.

edit....not to offend but I just freakin’ hate Joey Logano.

Your sorry a$$ will have a brutal ride home once our warriors show ya how to play real football!

Oh, well he should look for chatards 2016 sectional title along with your 17 regional title! Happy hunting to all!!

It’s pretty serious.  I heard the local PD has been called image.jpeg.90a161b88efe4e0714db023b29758fdd.jpeg

At least that’s what my neighbor’s cousin’s neighbor tells me.

....maybe talking about Jimmy Johnson’s retirement from NASCAR.....

Jeeez....bummer. Saw him race at Anderson in the late 90s with ASA.  Just like 20:years before that I used to watch Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace and the late Dick Trickle (greatest short track late model racer ever) race ASA locally.

I’ve become a fan of Erik Jones who made his bones on Indiana and Michigan short tracks just a couple of years back or so.

I see Danville lost to some good teams but who have they beat? Tri-West the second time they played. Anyone else?

The North Montgomery game was a moral victory for Danville this year, anyway.

Kind of like my graduation from trade school.

That said, my neighbor’s cousin’s neighbor  told me Danville might be tied up in the whole Southport thing.

He also told me they played football there but I couldn’t find any evidence of that either.

Drubbing of St. Joe?  They beat St. Joe 28-14 and 21-7 in 2010 & 2011.  AND, in the 2010 game, Chatard was up 14-7 and St. Joe was driving only to have the ball snapped over the QB's head for a scoop and score...a 14 point swing.

It was no drubbing....tough, tough game..  Helluva tight game.  St. Joe was driving and, frankly, didn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

That Scoop and Score absolutely changed the game.  The linebacker who scooped was also the kickoff returner and quite often the long yardage third down tailback.  Honestly, probably the worst possible person to lay the ball and an open field in front of.

Admittedly, in our household, that particular play is remembered with great (and very personal) fondness.

To this day, I  wonder if that 62 yd play wasn’t a record for a fumble return.

Nice try both of you.  I am not certain if the efforts here are to give Danville added motivation or bulletin board material or both!!  Danville is a very good team that is dangerous, couple with the fact they are playing at home after HH has been on a bus for 3+ hours!!  I can assure there is no way in Hades that Coach Wilk and the staff will be taking Danville lightly come Friday night.  The Patriots will show up knowing they have to play their best game to have a chance.  Looking forward to a great game!!

Good luck to both teams and stay healthy!!

    +35.   Who ya crappin’?

Memorial is playing for an opportunity to represent the south in 4a tomorrow night.   How is this "punished"    You do not think that the Coaching Staff and continued success of Memorial will continue to translate for years to come?  I know some lean years in 2014 and 2015 however that does not look like the norm under Coach Hurley

Stinks to go to Lucas Oil these days.......apparently.

No dog whatsoever in the Chatard/Danville history/discussion/back-forth...but did the COACH really just leave the sideline to go stand in front of the stands so that everyone can "look at me??" Really??

I have no problem whatsoever with genuine excitement and celebrating with your guys ...but to leave the sideline and go stand amongst the cheerleaders?? Really??

Sorry for the distraction from the game - but man...

    +35 HH.  Easy money.

Lysander, This game is WHME's TV46 game of the week.  Live feed on WHME's facebok page will be live and they rebroadcast the game @ 11:00  on Friday night and again @ 9:00 Saturday morning.  As you said, Chuck, Bob and Bo do a great job with their telecast of football and basketball.

    Mod22,

I thought the 46 broadcast of the Chatard/Northwood game ranks amongst the best HS TV broadcasts I have ever seen in Indiana...including the State Championships.  Really impressive.  Chuck Freeby and Bo Hundt were....just....exceptionally excellent.  The Bill Beck sideline interviews were particularly cool.

South Bend should consider itself lucky.  The broadcast I watched far exceeds anything I have seen on Indy area TV.......not even closely comparable.

BTW, hoping Bob Nagle(?) is doing better.

Good teams like Indianapolis Memorial, erghh?

We aren't counting regular season games... Oh the horror, an hour trip from Indy to Bloomington!

CJ, don’t know who Indianapolis Memorial is....more so, your point.  Apologies.

Chatard has only played away for some 58 years and had a total of 3 home playoff games EVER.....EVER, but fine, Heritage Hill’s travel the last 2 years is Hell on Earth.  The Trojans just need to suck it up.....like always.

HH’s SOLE worry this Friday only need be  about making the best dinner choices in Danville.

Myself, I’d suggest The Mayberry.  Good memories there, personally......and a shekel or two in the pocket later as it turned out.  Of course, there’s always Hardee’s, per Muda....gourmet that he is.

Otherwise, save your money for next weekend in Indy.  I have recommendations.

For the record,  don’t overlook Mishawaka Marian.....since HH is already hip deep in game planning next week...

The Chatard/Danville talk can stop- it ain’t gonna happen. HH rolls in this one 28-7

    HH by +35.

The South Representative was determined in Sectional 32 and at Lawrenceburg Saturday.

Danville actually lost to N. Montgomery......whom I have seen.  Told me all I needed to know about Danville this year.

The State Championship is between Heritage Hills and either Chatard or Mishawaka Marian.

edit.  I never do score predictions but this one is easy.

The winner of this game will have the privilege of losing to Indianapolis Lutheran in finals.  Hope Flying Jets win because they have a cool nickname, but the Saints will prevail.  Unless West Washington pulls a huge upset of course.  Things like that happen.

Bro......you might want to reconsider that moniker.

    .....Harry Tojo?

  14. The “Success Factor” to a degree has defaulted to the law of unintended consequences like so many “cures” do.  Most ALL of the successful transitions have come from 4A with only Memorial in 3A making it stick as the exception.  Still, all in all, it’s been a point of pride to teams.  I think all of the 4A teams that have made it stick (or even gone up another class) are damn proud....although it has cost them some possible championships.  Selfishly, I wouldn’t have seen probably the most entertaining HS game I have ever seen which was the New Pal/Snider State Championship a few years ago.

It seems to be working for most.

That said, we are still going to have the inevitable scheidtstorm of crying, b!tching, excuse-making, and moaning that will be the upcoming Heritage Hills v Chatard/Mishawaka Marian GID Thread (and any other public v. private game).  It’s already started.

I will say the same thing I have always said from the day it was announced, though.  Just move every single P/P up a class and be done with it.  I’m totally down with that.

Then the tears and lamentations might stop.....except they won’t.

I do think the problem today with what a I propose is that you have teams that have moved up (like New Pal) that would like to take an actual bite out of a MIC team in the playoffs as opposed to just a nibble in the regular season.  Without the Success Factor, they are stuck down on the 4A “farm”.  Ironically, some of the biggest advocates today might be those who have moved up wanting to strut their stuff.

Now, asking them to sustain it at a 5A/6A level for a long period of time may be a tall order but they are here to stay at the 4A level (if they ever get back there) for the foreseeable future in my opinion.

If they get to 6A it will be harder to sustain given the Sectional they are likely to be in plus they likely won’t have all the D1 talent Cathedral did (per their “doing more with less” mantra) to support them in their 6A stay.

Since all you need to do is win a Sectional yearly these days to stay up (2 points), it’s hard for me to believe they would ever go back down to 4A given their current 5A Sectional configuration.

    That is remarkable.

Yes, both are remarkable, but I think CE’s run was probably a little more impressive since they did it when 5A had more competitive teams in it.

All that said, I think Cathedral time in 6A may, in retrospect, be more competitive than CE’s will be.  Again, total speculation on my part there.
