They lost Neligh a couple of years back (sorry the years start blending together as I get older) and folks predicted they would take a step back and they have only gotten better. Starting to think this may be a well-oiled machine that is here to stay.
Agreed. I also thought (didn’t say it out loud) there would be a step back when Neligh and company moved on.
I know everybody talks about Jimmies and Joes but COACHING absolutely got the ball rolling at New Pal.
Center Grove has done it on a consistent basis.
No reason New Pal can’t sustain it as well.

I’m extremely surprised Chatard hasn’t done it. They are an absolute machine most years.
That was when: (1) you still needed 4 points to stay up; (2) New Pal/CE both on the rise in a BIG way; (3) Roncalli was still competitive and (4) Chatard down a bit compared to the 3-peat teams (2010-12) just prior to them.
All those factors contributed.

Would they only be the 4th school to bump up a class due to success factor and win a state title in a higher class if they do it? Only 3 I can think of are
New Pal, Cathedral, Columbus East
Correct...these 3 have won the State Championship in the next class.
Only CE and Cathedral have been able to move all the way up 2 classes.

I thought Kyle Adams was legit. I believe he set a single game State Record for yards against Jeff.

Batesville's Home stands are covered but they are not as nice or big as the home stands at Enlow. I believe the covered stands at Batesville have been around since the late 80's? Maybe @Coffin K9 can give you a more accurate date?
Pretty sure they existed when I competed there in the mid-late 70s...memory is a little tricky, though. My one clear Batesville memory involves their old track coach....Ron Raver.

Curious. I know all the archdiocese and their schools seem very different from one another in each of the cities in which they exist but I have often wondered if Marian and Chatard are possibly counterparts of one another. One in Northern Indiana, one in Central.
Can anyone familiar with both schools speak to similarities and differences? I am talking more as to the schools and their makeups as opposed to any specifics regarding football.
Again, curious.

Marian has had a great season, only losing to Mishawaka in a tight game. Having said that, our starting RB went out in the second quarter of the Sectional Championship game against Jimtown, and in the third quarter of that game our starting QB went out. Neither played last week, and our offense is definitely challenged without them. I am not hearing optimism about them being back for Friday.
At full strength it would have been a huge challenge for the Knights to hang with Chatard. Without the starting QB or RB....
Sorry about the injuries. I had heard they were down last week. Hopefully they will be available Friday.
Any word as to whether this game might be on WHME TV? I think they do a great job. Chatard/NorthWood earlier this year was broadcast on WHME. Since they are out of a South Bend, I assume this Semistate game would be their Game of the Week considering Marian is the closest area team still in the playoffs.

But down here in the south all we have heard is how unstoppable Chatard is!!
Tiapride is normally recommended for individual auditory hallucinations.
The fact that it’s being heard en masse is troubling, though.

Very interesting! I love factoids like that.
Yeah, I was just browsing John Harrell’s upcoming game capsules and saw that Chatard and Mishawaka Marian had not played one another in football in at least 35 years (which is as far back as Harrell goes) and out of curiosity I scanned the other classes realizing that the same situation existed for all the 2A-5A games.
Just one of those weird and interesting things that appealed to my short attention span.

Interesting! Not sure if all kickoff times are confirmed, but can't believe there isn't one Saturday game (per Harrell's site)
Me either - one game in particular. People never learn. I pick EM to win that one by at least 3TDs.
BTW after Friday’s game at Marian, Chatard will have had 4 of 5 tournament games away (80%), spent about 11.5 hours on the road and traveled roughly 650 miles (back and forth miles/time).
Crazy. Wonder how that matches up to the remaining teams.

Interesting factoid about the Semistate games in general.
Of the remaining teams playing one another in the 2A, 3A, 4A or 5A Semistate games, none have played one another in at last 35 years - if ever.

Ran for 1958 yards and 17 TDs as a freshman for Delta.
He's being recruited by a number of schools but only has a couple of offers (and a PWO from Tennessee).
Curious, is anyone looking at him as a defensive player? He wouldn’t be the first Successful HS RB who became a college linebacker (ie. Joe Holland at Purdue).

He was drunk. He must have finally passed out around 4:00 AM this morning....or his minders finally caught him wondering the halls in the dementia wing.
The admins deleted about 80% of the inane, profane lunacy he spewed about Lawrenceburg, Columbus East, “Catlicks” and all the “sons a b#tches” (My edit)from East Indiana by around 5:00 AM.
While I was sitting in an emergency room, talking with nurses and Docs all day and all night with a elderly parent yesterday until about 9:00 AM this morning, it provided some entertainment.
I’m assuming the nurses have him back on his meds at the home - hopefully taking his phone and computer until Christmas.

When Andrean was in 3A were they playing with a 1A or 2A enrollment? Sorry to sidetrack the thread... How many points would Memorial now need to be 5A now? Such a shame they are now disconnected with teams like Gibson Southern and Heritage Hills.
Andrean’s situation was complicated. They were 3A in size when they factored out of 3A to 4A. If I recall correctly, they were then bumped to 4A but their enrollment fell to 2A at the same time. They still had to spend 2 years in 4A but then only dropped down to 3A (even though their enrollment was 2A by that time). They then had to spend 2 more years in 3A before they could go back to 2A. In summary, it took them 4 years to get back to the class that actually matched their size.
Memorial now has 2 points which will keep them in 4A during the next cycle. They need 4 more points to move up to 5A. Basically you receive 1 point for every “level” you win. One point each for Sectional, Regional, Semi-State and State cumulatively.
Sorry for the digression.

I think Memorial's dominance the last three years has gone almost unnoticed.
2016- 9 wins 4 losses 3A Sectional Champs
2017-14 wins 1 loss 3A STATE CHAMPS
2018- 14-1 3A STATE RUNNER UP
2019 they get bumped up to 4A and win regionals and currently are 11-1. They are the favorite to win semi state as well.
What other team has been bumped up due to the success factor and made it to semi state or state?
Cathedral, New Pal, Dwenger and Columbus East. All started as 4A.
Cathedral and Columbus East both actually qualified to move up 2 classes (from 4A to 6A) based on their success after the initial bump up.
Still, its rarified air and Memorial is the first non-4A team to do it from what I can tell.

I heard there was a very rowdy out of control bunch from Chatard at the Acme last night. Btw, how was the tenderloin?
Good size crowd....I was surprised how many showed up when I arrived. Tenderloin was HUGE....my wife took 1/2 her’s home. I liked the chili, too. Called them at Noon to confirm the chili, btw.
Fun time!

The great thing for smaller schools in the SAC is that you are going to play against a variety of schools that typically are bigger than you, some maybe a lot better.....but you will be better in the end. The negative is that your probably going to lose a fair amount of those games.
That might not fit well in the video game mindset where if you are losing you just reset the game until you win. That mind set isn’t isolated to certain kids Concordia, by any means. That said, I’m no shrink so what do Iknow?
I thought the kids from Concordia played their @sses off last night.....right to the end. They went down throwing roundhouses.
BTW, Acme was a great recommendation for pregame last night. Thanks. Hope our folks weren’t too rowdy and tipped well. Thanks for ALL of the food recommendations.

Is it like getting high on the pot?
I tried it once, told you guys a few years ago I didn’t much care for it.
I stood on that toilet lid for hours and all I got was dizzy and leg cramps.

5A was virgin fields in 2013-14. It’s never been an intrinsically good class excepting when Snider is in it based on population. Valpo’s strength is very recent.
Its basically been the old 4A Championship since CE, New Pal, Cathedral and others moved up into it. It’s much harder to win 5A these days due to the moved up 4A teams.
That said, there is now a power vacuum in 4A.
Nature abhors a vacuum.
