2024 6A Who can win it all?
Footballking16 replied to KmartGiant's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
And you would say that’s because of enrollment? Because in the last 4 seasons, Carmel hasn’t gotten out of sectionals, Warren is under .500 and BD was flirting with it before getting a new head coach. -
2024 6A Who can win it all?

Look at the enrollments of 6A when it was formed compared to now. There's 17-18 mega enrollments now, there wasn't 6-10 years ago. It's why enrollment continues to become less and less relevant. If everybody has the same thing, it's no longer an advantage. -
2024 6A Who can win it all?

6A has been around for 11 seasons and has been dominated by a school who isn't in the top half of enrollment. The three largest schools no longer have a monopoly on enrollment disparity like they did prior to 6A being formed...which is why they no longer dominate the large class. Everybody has caught up and passed the point of diminishing returns in regards to enrollment and correlation to football roster numbers. I've been saying this close to 5 years now. Carmel continues to slide further and further in mediocrity because their enrollment advantage is no longer practical considering there's now 17-18 schools who all have an enrollment nearing or at 3000+. You can say the same thing for Warren who hasn't won a state title in 5 years and has had losing seasons in 3 out of the last 4 years, as well as Ben Davis who just won their first title in 6 years. -

I consider enrollment today, especially at the 6A level, irrelevant. As I've stated umpteen times, more than half of 6A has passed the point of diminishing returns when it comes to male student body makeup in relation to fielding a competitive football team. That's not limited to Indy either. -

Per 247 Sports, Penn hasn't had a scholarship football player attend a D1 school since 2018 when they sent Paul Moala to Notre Dame (ended up at FCS Idaho) and Anthony Torres to Western Michigan. Clearly enrollment isn't the issue considering Penn is the 6th largest high school in the state. -

Penn is bigger than all but one HCC school (Fishers) and has similar demographics to each of them yet produces D1 talent at a much lower rate. Even bottom feeders like Zionsville, Avon, and Noblesville are producing 1-3 D1 recruits a class. Why is that? -

Because they’re a shell of the program they used to be. They’ve been passed by 10-15 schools in the last 25 years. You made the claim, not me, and refuse to cite any anecdotal evidence. -

So you can’t name a single player. Penn is as talented as the MIC schools, face it. They don’t send kids to D1 schools like the MIC does. -

So answer my question: who was the last kid Penn sent D1? If you think Penn stacks up athletically with a majority of the teams from Indy, well you can certainly enjoy that take. Center Grove has won 4 out of the last 10 large class state titles and finished runner-up two additional times, despite not being in the top half of their enrollment based classification. Save your excuses. -

I put much more emphasis on MIC teams having much better athletes playing much better competition week in and week out when comparing them to Penn before screaming “enrollment”. Who is the last D1 player to come out of Penn? Where did he go? -

Warren Central could go 0-9 and still make regionals. They play in the worst sectional in the entire state. Making a regional with that draw shouldn’t be an accomplishment. -

The team to beat year in and year out is Center Grove. 17th out of 32 in enrollment. Weatfield passed Carmel years ago, despite half the enrollment. Let me know the next time Carmel gets out of sectionals. -

Didn’t say that. But guarantee you Carmel doesn’t sign up to be a sectional finalist which is a reality the last few years. Enrollment and all. -
2024 6A Who can win it all?
Footballking16 replied to KmartGiant's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
There’s a massive difference between a school with 3500-4000 kids (4-5 schools) and 1500-2000 kids (the rest of 5A) before the 6th class was added. That’s why the Big 3 dominated for so long. There’s now 18 6A schools (out of 32) whose enrollment are all ~3000+. Once you cross a certain threshold in terms of enrollment, the number becomes insignificant. Only X amount of kids can play. If you can’t field a competitive football team with 3000+ kids in your building, you need to look in the mirror. Simply put, Carmel/Warren/Ben Davis no longer enjoy the massive disparity in enrollment like they use too. And the results the last 6-8 years speak for themselves. -

Advantage to whom? A school with 2500 people playing against a school with 500 people? Sure The enrollment gap between the top 3 is drastically closing and has been the last several years, as evidence by the end of dominance among Carmel/WC/BD. There’s enough schools now in 6A that have a big enough enrollment that makes the enrollment talking point irrelevant. Carmel has 5200 kids and is like the 3rd or 4th best team in its own county. -

Footballking16 replied to KmartGiant's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I don’t believe so. Warren/BD/Carmel have 90% of the large class titles because those 3 have had a massive enrollment disparity for nearly 90% of the time the large class has existed. That’s no longer the case. And it shows. Carmel doesn’t have a state title in 5 years. Warren 6 years. This was BD’s first in 7 years. Nearly half of 6A has crossed the mega-enrollment threshold (3,000 students) to the point enrollment is becoming less and less irrelevant. 20 years from now the Big 3 will simply be looked at as “other schools”. -

The three largest schools don’t enjoy the enrollment disparity they did 15-20 years ago. There was what, 4-5 schools in the state with an enrollment of 3000+ 20 years ago? There’s 13 schools now with an enrollment of 3000+ with 4 or 5 more rapidly approaching that number. It’s why BD/Warren/Carmel are no longer taking turns rotating state titles like they used too, everyone else has caught up. -

The lack of D1 talent BD and WC produced for a 2-3 year period a few years back was laughable. That’s cyclical. BD and WC are likely #1 and #2 heading into next season. The amount of talent parallels that. -

Spot on Talent is cyclical, even at the big schools. Have always maintained that once you cross a certain threshold in enrollment, it then becomes irrelevant. There’s now several mega-enrollment schools in Indiana, not just the Big 3. -

Position coach vs head coach an entire different animal. Would also guess he was hired for his connections to Central Indiana football in regards to recruiting. -
