  1. You've obviously never coached anything.
  2. And my point is more development can happen when your season is longer.
  3. Well the coach can't practice with any of his kids once the season ends. So it's kinda out of his hands. My kids do a lot of travel baseball, softball, and basketball. The organization that runs the tournament, seeds the tournament based on pool play. This happens in every single tournament. I doubt anyone would sign up for a tournament if the organization said, You will play pool play Saturday for no reason then we will randomly put you in a bracket. It's easy to seed a tournament.
  4. I agree I don't think teams care if they lost in round 1 or in a sectional title game but that's not the point. You get very few games in football. The teams that are better, should be rewarded with more games. Those freshmen and sophomores that may not play a lot of varsity but those extra weeks of practice that teams get when they advance are a huge advantage for those kids and their development.

  10. they're hanging in there like a hair in a grilled cheese.
  11. I feel like it should rest at H&R Bakery until a champion is true crowned.
  12. I'm going to copy these picks.
  13. If Brown County is fielding a team full of kids with no parents, I see why they gave up 84 points.

  16. I thought it had to be a different Salem and Silver Creek at first.
  17. Not sure how many Salem fans are on here. Saw a YouTube highlight of Salem and Silver Creek. Does Salem wear that black and neon yellow jersey for their home uniforms or was that like a special uniform night?

  21. I'll do that next week.
  22. I think it has to do with what all we could do with an indoor facility. You can drop the batting cages and hit year round. You can go in and have football practice in poor weather. Track and Field could use it pre-season. Maybe your hard core tennis players could use it too. We already have a practice field that's full width and 80 yards long. We don't need to be on the game field all the time.
  23. Absolutely. I'd much rather have that indoor facility than turf.
  24. It's been about 3 years ago, West Washington was talking about going turf. One of the WW school board members taught next to me and he told me their cost analysis showed it was basically a wash financially. The upkeep of the grass field over the expected life of the turf was the same as installing the turf.
  25. Like anything, it's not just a single issue. Support from the school has always been lackaing. The school has never made an investment at all in the program. The football program is expected to be 100% self sufficient meaning if they needed equipment, it comes from fundraising or donations. If you want Hudl, fundraising. New jerseys, fundraising. Helmets refurbished, fundraising. The school hasn't really hire any assistant coaches to be in the building but from what I hear, that's getting better. The current AD will do whatever he can to make sure things are done correctly but they wasted a lot of years. I also feel like if you want to have a successful football program, you have to have support from the community, which historically is lacking. You have some great parents that are involved and they are at everything and their child never misses a workout, but for every one of those, you have 8 that are the opposite. The overall mentality of the county seems to be, "How can I get by and do the absolute minimum?" which doesn't turn kids into quality football players. I know an army recruiter that makes his rounds at area high schools has said it's hard to get those kids to sign up for the military because the mentality of hard work just isn't there in the majority and if it is, those are the ones that head off to college. I mentioned assistants earlier, and there has always been a lack of help in the area because the pool of people willing to help are small, or they want to help and work construction and don't get off work until well after practice time. And if you can't find quality assistants for high school, jr. high and youth are a challenge too. Keep in mind, these are generalizations. There are some kids that work super hard and are very talented. Some parents are super supportive and are willing to help out in whatever way they can. Coach Bell deserves a lot of credit. He probably has the hardest coaching job in the state. He and his staff are giving those kids an opportunity to play football when they otherwise wouldn't get to. Hopefully things get better for them soon.
