Cathedral VS Chatard @Arlington

That doesn't look too bad. It looks better than the last time the Irish played there, that's for sure. -
Bishop Chatard vs. Cathedral

I'm not saying that Chatard didn't have a great game last year but Cathedral showed less spunk than in any game all of last season, imho. Chatard took the Irish to the woodshed in every way possible. -

It's gameday and this one is always special. I'm really tired of the trip to Cincinnati too. We get to make that trip again next week but first things first. One thing I'm sure of, the Irish players will give a better effort this year. You can count on that! -

A whole day without any conversation about this game? That's unusual. Can't wait to see what has been done to Arlington's field! -
That's possible it went OOB on the one, but from our vantage point it appeared to hit the pylon straight on, but we were across the field from the play. Anyway, the short punt gave Elder the ball at the 6 and a pretty easy score.

I'll be there early as usual!

I knew the score was 28-27. I just must've had fat fingers when posting. -

Elder won the freshman game yesterday 28-17. Cathedral went for two late in the game and were unsuccessful. I have no information on the JV game. If anyone has the score please pass that along. -
This one is scheduled to be played at Arlington and will bring back a lot of memories, some good some not so good, to both sides. It should be a good one!

It was nice to meet you Friday night! Hope to see you at the tailgate this upcoming Friday.

The game next week against Bishop Chatard will also be played at Arlington. I was told by a member of the Athletic Staff that work has been ongoing there for quite awhile and it will be playable next week. -

There's just no room for a tailgate the way the Irish do it . There's barely enough room to park cars.

I didn't think you'd understand. Have a good day. (if you can understand that) -
Actually the Irish fans tailgated with the Elder fans. LaRosa pizza and Skyline chili.

The officials missed this call in Cincinnati last night. The ball knocked over the pylon and went into the end zone, and the ball was placed on the one yard line. It eventually led to a score for Elder. I thought the national rule was the 10 yard line. I really liked playing from the 20 in OT much better last night. Thanks for this information!

That answers my questioning of why Avon needed to play their starters for most of the scrimmage. Thanks! I'm surprised you didn't bring your train whistle to Tech.😁 Also Cathedral played "up" probably before you were born in the 1970's, playing in the final game in 1973 and 1976. -
Two questions: If a punt hits the pylon and goes into the end zone, is that a touchback or out of bounds at the one? Also, last night's OT possessions, in Ohio, started at the 20 yard line instead of the 10 yard line. Is this an Ohio rule or a national rule?

That's what makes high school football so much fun, nothing is guaranteed. You've got to put it on the line every week in the playoffs. -

The Irish coach, Bill Peebles, has had a year to work with the team. This in my opinion is the biggest difference. Also the attitude seems to be more "old school" than it was in the last couple of years. The offense is a lot more sophisticated and the defense seems to be more intense. Also the Irish are playing a lot of sophomores and juniors this season, and they seem to be able to help out quite well. Should be a good one next week! I can't wait to see Arlington once more. -

The Cathedral/Avon scrimmage was very interesting. I know it was just a scrimmage but Avon played their first teamers a whole lot more than Cathedral and the Irish seemed to match up well. But all that's just conjecture. Cathedral only needs to stay healthy and get better against some outstanding competition in the regular season. A couple more thoughts about last night at Elder. They need to update their lighting. There were a lot of dark spots. Also it would be nice if they put some wood or aluminum on the concrete that we sat on last night. I bet that concrete gets really cold late in he season. Also $10 to park is out of line for a high school sporting event, imo. The lot we parked in was not that close either. Other than that it was a great atmosphere. -

I believe no one asked for their money back after this one! First off, it was a shame that there was another hazmat situation on I74 this year. This is the second time in the last few years that's happened when the Irish were trying to get to the Queen City to play. We were routed off the Interstate onto Hwy.46 and we arrived just before 7PM after leaving at 4PM. As we were buying our tickets we saw the Irish buses pull up and knew there was going to be a long delay. The Irish played very well despite this situation. No excuses! I'm not sure why every D1 coach in the Country isn't knocking of the door of Shiloh Means. This young many is a football player! I hope last night's efforts will bring him some more offers. It was a shame that either team lost this one. It was a very evenly matched football game. It was back and forth all night. The Irish had a rough time shutting down the Panther QB. I haven't seen the stats yet but he might have gained 200 yards rushing in this one. The Panther TE was a handful too and it was evident that he was their go to guy. The Irish led until Elder kicked a game tying FG with only 39 seconds left. The kicking game really cost the Irish in the first half. All three Elder TD's were on a short field, including one from the six yard line. The other two TD's were from a short punt and an unsuccessful onside kick, which gave Elder the ball at mid field. The Irish offense was in high gear most of the game and it was a shame to lose when Orin Edwards couldn't quite handle a low snap in the OT. The offensive line looked like it could be a work in progress at the beginning of the season, but it has performed well up to now. The defense seemed to be chasing the ball a bit last night instead of containing the edges. It allowed the Elder QB to gain some big yards on keepers. We had a different view of the Elder hospitality. We pulled into a parking lot and were surprised that there was a $10 charge to park. Also there was a handicap parking spot available that this old Irish fan was not allowed to use. I've given up a lot of body parts for my handicap placard! But it was an easy out from where we parked and I arrived home at 1AM on the westside of Indy. That's not too bad actually, after a near 8PM start to the game. It was nice to meet some TGD contributors during the night, none being 1906 of course. It's on to Chatard next week! Anxious to see how Arlington's stadium has been spruced up. I've been told that work has been done to make the field playable. It's be nice to not have to leave town to watch the Irish play. GO IRISH!!!!!!! -

Just got home from Cincinnati. This was a good football game! Cathedral only had one turnover all night but it was in OT. Elder won the game 38-31. More later in the morning. It's bed time.
