  1. I think you bring up a good question. I would say, however, that you can only do so much to protect a QB. in the pocket, I get. But when they become runners, and on their own accord, that is different. In the case Friday with Plummer he was a runner and was injured on the tackle. I saw the play and it didn't APPEAR to be a malicious hit. I have not seen a replay and that was from an initial perspective. Football is physical and, unfortunately, injuries happen. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  2. Why would you say they are done of a state tournament run? Surely LaVille is not a one man team? The back up QB last night handed the ball off quite a lot and many of the other players did their job. LaVille has several good players. IMO, Plummer is also a good player that is part of a team. If Plummer is out for the season, the team will have to adjust. I'm just not sure they are done. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  3. Watched Schuh against LaVille. He was nails in that one too. Schuh definitely one of the best backs in the conference. Wouldn't be surprised if he was over 1,500 rushing yards or pretty close for the season. And, I believe he has over 100 yards rushing in every game so far this season. Would also say that DeWitt fits in that category for LaVille. He's probably near 1,100 rushing yards after last night and I believe since he finished over 100 yards against NJ that gives him six games over 100 yards. Both Schuh and DeWitt should be considered for conference MVP. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  4. LaVille definitely showed what kind of team they have. IMO the LaVille defense stepped up once again against one of the best RB in the conference and best total offenses, holding Allen to less than 60 yards in first half and about 85 yards for the game. The also kept North Judson out of the end zone in the OT and limited NJSP to about 120 rushing yards for the game and did not allow them in the end zone for the second half. Allen did have three TDs for Judson and showed that he is a very valuable young man on this team. DeWitt was nails toinght. Probably around 160 yards rushing and 2 TDs. Plummer getting injuried at the end of the third didn't seem to bother LaVille. Next man up stepped in and did a nice job running the controls. Howevrer, if Plummer is out with the injury, that takes away a lot of positions that he plays for the team - QB, P-PK, Kickoff, defense, he can play a lot of places. After watching this one, I could see both NJ and LV make a deep run in the state tournament. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  5. Thanks for the feedback. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  6. Ok, let's do a tale of the tape: Which team - NJ or LV - has the better piece of the game? Rushing Game Passing Game O Line D Line Secondary Punting Game Kicking Game (i.e PAT, FG, KICKOFF) Anything Else? as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  7. Hello! Each year the guys at Gridiron DIgest work very hard to make sure that we can chat about Indiana High School Football. We can brag, support our local team(s), trash talk (within reason), and make predictions right here on Gridiron Digest! I am not one of the guys. I am not a paid-promoter. I am just a supporter of what these guys put together for the benefit of us, its loyal contributors. Right now the budget is about $1,200 short of the target for the year. If you have contributed or logged on to read, please consider making a contribution. I have made my contribution. Will you consider joining me in supporting The Gridiron Digest? I know the guys will appreciate your contribution. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  8. All: Just wondering if there was ever any resolution to a Hoosier North Athletic Conference football champion following the 2020 season? According to the John Harrell website, there were several games that did not play. I realize that Pioneer was 5-0, but never played LaVille or Winamac. LaVille was 4-1, but did not play Winamac or Triton Knox was missing a conference game, Winamac missing 2 HNAC games, and Triton 1. So several missing HNAC games due to COVID. Just wasn't sure what the schools decided to do? Thanks for any reliable input. Not looking for speculation. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  9. So, just to throw this out there . . . Back in 2005, NorthWood finished a regular season with a 3-6 record. Had a freshman QB - Skyler Titus. Not many people gave them much of a chance. Panthers win the sectional. Beat Luers for the regional title on the road. Beat Griffith then 13-0 Griffith for the semistate. Then, when not many people other than those associated with NorthWood gave them much of a chance, beat Indpls Chatard 7-0 in the state final. I realize that this is not 2005. And I'm not saying NorthWood wins the state title this year. But (And I know this has been said once or twice before) . . . On any given day! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  10. A lot of people think this is going to be a great game! Even drew Channel 46 as the Game of the Week . . . DeWitt is not the only one that can get it done rushing the ball. Richhart, Plummer, Allen, and Smith have proven they can be effective on the ground. Plummer can throw the ball. LaVIlle has defended the run well, but still to be seen how they can play against a team that is a good passing team. Sounds like NJSP has a little of both the run game and passing game. Got one team averaging 46 points and the other offense averaging 44. And, both teams among the best in the state averagining just seven points. Gonna be a great game, folks! I'd wouldn't be surprised if they are standing a couple deep along the fence casue the stands will be full! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  11. Hey, hey . . . It is Week #8 of the high school season. Where did the time get to already? Culver at Pioneer Knox at Triton North Judson at LaVille Winamac at Caston What say you?
  12. Here's my two cents . . . Caston at Culver - Cavaliers Glenn at LaVille - Lancers Pioneer at Knox - Knox Triton at North Judson - Triton West Central at Winamac - Winamac Conference picture getting clearer after tonight's games? Does NJSP take a step closer? Will Triton step in? Do Pioneer and Knox answer questions? How will LaVille respond after close call at Knox? What does Culver have to say? All these questions and more get answered later tonight. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  13. Great way to keep the conversation alive! I knew what you were up to Fine Print! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  14. Some interesting points you make here, FinePrint. I'm not sold on a potential match up that may or may not happen. I'm more you play the here and now. You go with what you know. And Triton and North Judson both know that they play a Hoosier North game Friday. Now I'm not saying that you throw your entire playbook at NJ. Definitely take notes, see what works. What doesn't work. You'll also have the tape to refer to down the road should a state tournament game between the two happen. Just not a big believer that you hide something now in exchange for something that may not even happen. If what you are doing works, stick with what works. Why would you go away from what you are doing to keep things 'vanilla'? Make the other team stop what is effective for you. I guess my big question here is, what do you tell your team? Oh, we are going with these five plays for the entire game because there is this chance that we might play them in the state tournament and we don't want to show them anything now. You've been working hard in the off-season to play a game that has a 'vanilla' package? I just don't believe that is a good strategy. Let the kids play the game and let the kids decide who wins. Just one person's opinion. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  15. I'm intrigued by Pioneer at Knox and Triton at NJSP this week. Pioneer is a good program, I just think the way Knox played with LaVille that this could be an very interesting game. I give Knox a lot of credit. People can say what they want, I watched the game and thought Knox did a heckuva job coming back after being down 14 points deep into the third quarter. They had to get two scores on LaVille's defense and they got two scores. LaVIlle is still a very strong team. A lot of veterans playing on that team and a solid coaching staff. Those seniors have played in many ballgames and I believe that matters come crunch time. Triton and NJSP also intrigues me. Both teams have some talented kids. IMO thIS one might just come down to who has the ball last. Like we've said . . . that's why we play the games boys and girls! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  16. So, LaVille scored first. One play, and boom . . . In the end zone. Knox the kick. Then Knox scored on a long drive. Must have been 15 plays or something like that. Knox held LaVille on downs twice in the second quarter. Knox offense definitely had the ball more in the first half than LaVille and led 7-6. LaVille looked like it wanted to run the ball more than pass. LaVille's quarterback had a few runs, maybe six or seven, but was able to score inside the 10. With LaVille ahead, Knox started its comeback in the 4th. The Knox QB is pretty sharp. Several times he kept the ball and ran for 5-6 yards at a time. The Knox RB is quick and is probably one of their best players. I think he's a freshman. And he was able to make some big plays to help the offense. He made a nice catch in double coverage that led to a Knox score. After Knox scored and the score was 21-20, two timeouts were called. Look like Knox was trying to draw LaVille offside, but LaVille didn't bite. Then Knox went for a Wildcat to RB and he tried up the middle. LaVille stuffed them and then was able to run out the clock. I give Knox at of credit. They hung in and gave LaVille a good game. Knox certainly nearly pulled off the upset. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  17. Coming into the final third of the regular season. Here we go . . . Caston at Culver Glenn at LaVille Pioneer at Knox Triton at North Judson West Central at Winamac What say you? as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  18. That is too bad! For those that either can not get away from home or, like grandparents or others, live in another state, they could purchase a subscription to view the game. The school can sign up in a variety of ways to get a certain percentage of the fee if they are concerned about revenue. Not promoting any vendor, just for informational purposes only. I am not a vendor! Just know that this is an option in this technology age we live in. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  19. Well, here is my two cents this week . . . Culver Academy at NJSP LaVille at Knox North White at Caston Pioneer at Triton Winamac at Culver Keep the change! Anyone know if the LaVille at Knox game will be either broadcast or on a live stream? Generally I have heard by now, but have not heard yet. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  20. You are correct. LaVille has been challenged for one half of football thus far. Still waiting for an effective passing team to challenge the defense. LaVille has a solid defensive line and can fill holes pretty quickly. It's the secondary that has yet to be challenged. That, coupled with the fact that LaVille has yet to be tested for four quarters are unknowns. LaVille has several tested players and a solid coaching staff to help them through those times. The rest of the season and state tournament should be exciting! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  21. Covering all the bases! It's no surprise I am easily confused! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  23. Working our way through the middle third of the high school season. Looks live seveal of us had conversation about the coming week in the Week Five log. Let's keep the conversation going as it is Time For Week Six of the regular season! Who You Got This Week? Culver Academy at NJSP LaVille at Knox North White at Caston Pioneer at Triton Winamac at Culver as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  24. LaVille is as advertised! Good defense against the run, several threats to run the ball, solid quarterback that can throw the ball, good special teams play. Also, solid place kicker with good range. Looking forward to seeing how the defense responds in the Knox game next week. IMO this is the season that Triton beats Pioneer in the coming week. The difference could be how effective the running game will be for the Trojans. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  25. September 16 Results For HNAC Teams: Hammond Central over Pioneer Knox by three scores of Glenn LaVille scores early to clip Caston NJSP shuts out Winamac Triton blanks Culver I was a bit surprised that Knox beat Glenn by three touchdowns Also shocked that Hammond got past Pioneer Hard to believe we have five weeks in the book LaVille-Knox Pioneer-Triton Winamac-Culver Coming up this week . . . as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
