  1. Agreed! Probably just took them too early! I would say that sometimes expectations change and updates are made to procedure for the betterment of everyone. When it comes to our student-athletes I feel these courses are necessary, even if coaches are asked to take them each year. As always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  2. Thank you Coach Park and to the Goshen Football Coaching Staff for your time, effort, and dedication to the Goshen Football Program! It is a special time when former alumni can come back and coach in a community they grew up in. Numbers always make the difference . . . It is really too bad that not more kids desire to play football. However, not everyone is made to play a particular sport. We appreciate the time you spent away from your family, the dedication in game planning, and time spent in and out of season to help the young men apart of your program be the best they could be. Best of you luck to you moving forward and best of luck to your successor. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  3. This is an honest question . . . Not trying to be a smart guy. I was asked and do not know the answer. Appreciate the response . . . . In the state tournament, should the score reach 35 points or more and the clock runs . . . . Does the clock continue to run (except for injury, timeout, end of period, or by the officials) if the score goes below the 35 points? So if it runs at 35 or more, but then goes below 35 does the clock contiune to run? Thanks! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  4. I give the folks at LaVille some credit. The field, though not in the best shape, was in much better shape for Friday's game against Pioneer. It looked like they rolled the field and cut the grass very short. I was on the field after the game and it was muddy in spots, but not like it was following the Bremen game. Congratulations to Coach Will Hostrawser and the LaVille Football team. These boys came to play! A confident, focused bunch of Lancers came out of the locker room. I have seen Pioneer play several times and the Panthers were flat outplayed - on both sides of the ball - on Friday. The LaVille linemen controlled the line of scrimmage and Paul DeWitt hit the holes hard and fast. Lucas Plummer was effective and ran the offense from the QB spot and was very effective in the punt game and was solid with two field goals and PATS. Ross Wagoner was key for LaVille. And the offensive line pushed Pioneer back, allowing an effective running game. This was truly a team win, not just the boys mentioned here . . . . This was a hungry, impressive group that Coach Hostrawser brought to the field on this particular Friday. Good Luck to the Lancers against Andrean in the regional round. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  5. Wow! After reading the internet, both Bremen and LaVille had 100-yard rushers. I would have never though that would happen considering the rain that slowed the track at LaVille. There were probably more turf monster tackles due to the soggy conditions than there were clean jerseys by the end of the night! Game was as advertised between Breme and LaVille . . . low-scoring, especially due to the weather. LaVille's defense kept its sixth opponent to one score or less. Was a bit surprised that LaVille took the opening kick right down the field. Seemed like the Lancers came out ready to play and Bremen was hesitant out of the game. Read on the internet in some article that Bremen had 4 total yards from scrimmage in the first half. Course turnovers didn't do Bremen any favors. Was impressed with the DeWitt kid from LaVille and the Moser kid from Bremen. Both run hard and can break away for big runs. This game was won in the trenches. LaVille outplayed Bremen on both lines. Now LaVille has to get over the stigma of The Almighty Pioneer. It was a good game back in September. Pioneer was not at 100% then, but that is different now. I would also mention that LaVille is different now as well. This will be a low-scoring game and may come down to special teams, especially if Pioneer continues to go for two-points after any touchdowns scored. Kicking game edge to LaVille. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  6. Yes. Plymouth has turf. I could see LaVille moving its game next week if Lancer Field takes too much of a beating. But, as was mentioned, got to take care of business against Bremen first. Not going to be an easy task. With a muddy track, points will be hard to come by. One of the reasons I picked LaVille by three. Does Bremen have a kicker? If so, could he hit from inside 40 if the conditions get rough. Last year, I would say yes to LaVille's kicker. This year, I'm not so sure. Special teams could end up winning this game for one of these teams! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  7. So according to a tweet on the @LVAthletics account, LaVille will host Bremen. Not sure if the coming rains in northern Indiana on Thursday and Friday will change that plan or not. I guess time will tell. Delphi (7-3) at Pioneer (8-2) With Pioneer getting kids back and the team coming together, I'm picking the Panthers in this one. Probably two touchdowns. Bremen (7-3) at LaVille (7-2) This game is intriguing, prior to a couple of weeks ago LaVille struggled putting points on the board. Bremen, meanwhile, averages 28 points per game. The questions are . . . can LaVille's defense keep Bremen to two scores or less? Can LaVIlle somehow muster three scores against the Lions? I think this one, just like Week #1, is close. LaVille by three. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  8. According to MaxPreps, LaVille has thrown the ball more this year than last year. They also have a few more folks catching the ball this season, so the ball is being spread around a little more. Six players caught the ball last year, while 10 different receivers have a catch this season. I would also add that Plummer is just as dangerous and athletic throwing as he is running the ball . . . and only a sophmore. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  9. First Round In The Books. Off To The Semifinal Round With The Following Scheduled Pairings: Delphi (7-3) at Pioneer (8-2) Bremen (7-3) at LaVille (7-2) WHO YA GOT? *No word yet on if the Bremen-LaVille game will be held at LaVille due to poor field conditions a couple weeks ago when LaVille had to move its final game of the regular season to Cavalier Field in Culver. 12. Since you brought it up and wish to continue the discussion about how irrelavant the field in 34 really is, let's take a look at all of the 2A North Sectionals. According to Harrell, 36 would prove to be the most irrelavant . . . far behind the field in 34. In 34 three teams are given at least a 21% chance of winning the sectional. The other three have clear-cut favorites with only a small chance of the remainder of the field to even have a shot at winning at sectional. Tipton and Eastside are the only teams given a chance according to Harrell. To me it is more relavant to at least have a chance to win, than to have little to any chance at all. On any given night, an upset can and will happen. But I guess that is why we play the games! I guess that is why everyone is included in the state tournament draw and not just a selected number from the schools in the state that offer football. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007 CLASS 2A SECTIONAL 33 SECT REGN SEMI STATE Andrean 73.58% 62.71% 33.05% 20.17% Rensselaer Central 12.04% 5.89% .98% .21% Wheeler 8.26% 4.35% .82% .20% Whiting 3.77% .58% .02% .00% North Newton 1.40% .35% .02% .00% Boone Grove .76% .06% .00% .00% Hammond Noll .16% .01% .00% .00% Bowman Academy .03% .00% .00% .00% SECTIONAL 34 SECT REGN SEMI STATE Pioneer 41.07% 11.85% 2.38% .62% Bremen 22.32% 6.21% 1.19% .29% LaVille 21.48% 5.77% 1.05% .25% Delphi 5.49% .78% .06% .01% Manchester 4.43% .75% .07% .01% Rochester 3.65% .57% .05% .01% Lewis Cass 1.21% .11% .00% .00% Wabash .34% .02% .00% .00% SECTIONAL 35 SECT REGN SEMI STATE Fort Wayne Luers 63.70% 43.93% 30.20% 20.29% Eastside 27.22% 14.50% 7.82% 3.99% Central Noble 6.06% 1.76% .55% .15% Fairfield 1.74% .39% .10% .02% Woodlan .69% .09% .01% .00% Bluffton .33% .04% .01% .00% Prairie Heights .26% .02% .00% .00% Whitko .00% .00% .00% .00% SECTIONAL 36 SECT REGN SEMI STATE Eastbrook 55.25% 27.79% 17.22% 10.29% Tipton 30.21% 8.17% 3.20% 1.11% Lapel 12.48% 3.12% 1.15% .37% Eastern (Greentown) 1.20% .15% .03% .01% Alexandria .45% .02% .00% .00% Frankton .29% .02% .00% .00% Blackford .06% .00% .00% .00% Elwood .06% .00% .00% .00%
  13. You don't have to participate in this thread. Especailly since it is the least relevant sectional in 2A North! If you want to interact about other sectionals, please do so. This thread was started for Class 2A Sectional 34, not public and private schools. moving on . . . . as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  14. Just to clarify . . . And maybe it was a type-O It is Mishawaka Marian . . . . Marion High School is in Marion, Indiana. Mishawaka Marian is a private catholic school in Mishawaka. Marion High School is a public high school. A fair distance from each other. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  16. I'll take the under and LaVille holds Bremen to 14 or lower. Might be an uphill battle offensively since they have scored 12 or less more often, but definitely the under. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  17. I'm with you on Pioneer . . . However, with the way LaVille struggles offensively, that defense is on the field a long time. If I said the winner of the Bremen-LaVille game would score 15, would you take the over or the under? as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  18. Ok, so the pairings have been released by the IHSAA for the state football tournament. Class 2A, Sectional 34 has the following: Lewis Cass at Delphi Wabash at Pioneer Bremen at Manchester LaVille at Rochester Lewis Cass has the best strength of schedule in this sectional LaVille #2 Bremen #3 Pioneer #4 Wabash #5 Manchester #6 Delphi #7 Rochester #8 If we pick first round winners, based on SOS We would have the following in the Final Four Lewis Cass v. Pioneer Bremen v. LaVille Who Ya Got In The First Round? as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  19. Hard to believe we are nearing the completion of the 2021 IHSAA Football Regular season! We've got the first round IHSAA state tournament pairings and are ready for Week #9. Game of the week, imho, NJSP at Pioneer. Can the Jays hang with the defending HNAC champs? Who ya got this week? Friday, Oct. 15 Culver at LaVille ©, 7 pm Knox at Caston ©, 7:30 pm North Judson at Pioneer ©, 7:30 pm Triton at Winamac ©, 7 pm as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  20. Mr. Whiteshoes . . . would you consider renewing your support for The Gridiron Digest? Noticed you used to be a Booster. Thank you for your support! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  21. Yep, two weeks left in conference play. I took a look at all the HNAC schedules and here is what I found: Pioneer, Triton, and Caston will have played seven HNAC games if we can make it through the next couple of weeks. So no problem there. However, we have LaVille, North Judson-San Pierre, Culver Community, and Knox that have played six. One short of the maximum. And, Winamac that has played five HNAC games. That is six games that we are missing from the season. Not as bad as last year, but we are still short. Will those in charge of the HNAC agree to crown a champion? Unless those in charge have already agreed, we shall see. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  22. All: This comes as a plug and unsolicited from the Gridiron Digest Powers That Be . . . We are so very fortunate to have a place to brag, be the town homer and faithful, interact about our team and the weekly opponent, and so many more things. Meanwhile, GID has bills to pay each month to keep The Digest alive and well. If you have not, and can afford to, please consider a donation to help keep Gridiron Digest up and thriving! Every little bit helps . . . Not that it matters, but I've added my 'two cents' for the cause. Would you consider adding your 'two cents' for the good of the cause? as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  23. All contracts have buyout clauses. Sports like Football and Basketball have larger buyout clauses than other sports. Doesn't mean they are always paid, but there is a buyout clause in every contract. There have been schools back out of football and basketball contracts and not one penny was exchanged by the school that broke the contract. That is fact and undisputed! That being said, if conference games are not played due to weather, the game is suppose to be made up on the next available date. Both Winamac and LaVille have had opportunities to play conference games since contact tracing hit LaVille a few weeks back. Now, LaVille and Winamac have the opportunity to play each other during a week of a non-conference opponent. However, if both LaVille and Winamac do not agree to make that game up, that is up to them. Once again, there can not be a Hoosier North Athletic Conference champion 2021 due to not all HNAC games in football being played. Just like last year. No champion because of COVID and multiple HNAC games not played. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  24. It is not a matter of Glenn agreeing to make a switch. Conference games tend to rule, so if the same conference teams agree then any non-conference game would be scrapped and a conference game played. So, technically if LaVIlle and Winamac agreed to play each other, that would leave the opponent to find another game or not play at all. Has happened before. as always, the game is bettter from_the_sidelines007
  25. Well problem here could be that LaVille has had problems scoring as well. LaVille's defense has been pretty tough so far this season. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
