  1. Anyone know if that is the hightest regular season score in the national high school football record books? as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  2. Well, here we are! The final third of the 2021 regular season of the Indiana high school football season. One burning question . . . since LaVille and Winamac lost their regular season HNAC game. Any chance the two get together on October 1? Glenn (who is supposed to play LaVille) and West Central (who is supposed to play Winamac) wouldn't lose a regular season as they could play each other. Pretty each switch . . . One minor issue is that one of the two - Glenn or West Central - would have to lose a home game to help make this happen. One bright spot, one set off officials would be available. The Winamac-LaVille game was supposed to be at LaVille, so the Glenn officials could head over to LaVille for the HNAC game and Glenn could take on a new opponent. In the big picture of things, however, that's likely NOT going to happen! The LaVille-John Glenn game is too much of a backyard rivalry. In any event, who ya got this week? Friday, Oct. 1 Culver at Caston ©, 7 pm Knox at Pioneer ©, 7:30 pm LaVille at Glenn, 7 pm North Judson at Triton ©, 7:30 pm Winamac at West Central, 7 pm as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  3. Thanks everyone for your responses! For the record, my disagreement was with a retired football coach. And, no disrespect, maybe back in the day maybe that was not a first down. I was the one that indicated it was a first down on the touchdown because the first down was earned when the ball went past the down marker. He vowed that due to the fact that the team that scored did run another play, there was no first down. We both obviously stood our ground. Live and learn! Thanks Again! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  4. dazed and confused . . . . Here is a drawing. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - | |G |5 1|0 11 12 13 14 1|5 2|0 2|5 | | @ Ball Is At The 12 Yard Line | | < - Going Toward the closest end zone to the left |. | 12 yards from the end zone |. | You are a prankster, I can tell |. |G Nice Work! - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  5. In this case it was 12 yards from the end zone. However, it would not matter because the distance would cover more than 10 yards - either from the 12 or from the 12 on the opposite side of 50 or 88 yards away. But good question. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  6. Ok. So I have this disagreement with a buddy of mine about a football stat question. Here is the scenario: Team A has the ball first and 10 at the 12 yard line. Team A scores a touchdown on the next play. One of us says Team A gets a first down on the play because they took the ball past the 10 yards necessary to get the first down. The other one of us says no first down because it is a touchdown and the next play was not played due to the touchdown. Any stat buffs out there that can clear this one up? Thanks! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  7. Yep! Hard to believe we are halfway through the 2021 season. Agreed that NJSP, Pioneer and Winamac beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the HNAC pack. Pioneer should be 6-2 heading into the final regular season game against NJSP on Oct.15, providing there are no covid setbacks. Winamac probably going to be 6-0 heading into the final regular season game against Triton on Oct. 15. Once again without covid. NJSP still has at Triton, LaVille and at Pioneer to close the season. The Jays gotta play solid ball and keep things rolling. I was taking a look at the Sagarin Ratings - Strength of schedule in particular 2A #34. In reference to your comment about LaVille in sectional play, the Lancers, at least so far, do not have a top tier strength of schedule. Here is a 2A #34 Strength of Schedule Look: Manchester 165 Bremen 202 Pioneer 214 Wabash 235 Lewis Cass 236 LaVille 248 Delphi 275 Rochester 294 I got to see the LaVille at Caston game last year. Comets much-improved. Had they put the ball in the end zone from the one in the second quarter when LaVille stopped them, that is a different game. Confidence breaker, score changer for Caston. Go from being even to trailing in about four or five plays. You could what momentum Caston had from that first drive go right out the window. It was like watching a balloon deflate! Caston over Newton Pioneer over Triton Winamac over Culver LaVille over Knox CMA over NJSP What is up with Knox? Injuries, covid, ??? I saw one post list the QB would have to be a magician. Hard for one guy to beat a team - that is unless he has a line that will just push the defense into the second stage of the defense and he gains 6-8 yards a carry. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  8. Winamac v. NJSP off Friday due to contact tracing at Winamac. as always the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  9. Just like last fall in that if a game can not be played due to contact tracing, quarantine, covid . . . . the game is a no contest. No game played can not be counted in the standings. It is unfortunate for both LaVille and Winamac. These guys want to play and there is no one more disappointed than these boys and these coaches. That is the competitive spirit in both programs. They want to play this game! Here is a forethought . . . Both have a non-conference game scheduled on October 1. Maybe this one can be rescheduled for October 1? That is one way to give these boys and coaches a chance to play this game. Just sayin' . . . . . as always the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  10. So Here is the skinny on some early HNAC games . . . . Congrats to Winamac on its victory over Pioneer. Panthers were not at 100%, but we all know you play 'next man up' and give the Warriors a lot of credit. Caston playing inspired ball, got a 'W' and battled Triton. LaVille missing overeall team speed resulting in not as many points . . . . Panthers picking up a few players at a time and will get back to 100%. NJ @ Knox - Some think this one could be close. I think NJSP has a lot in the tank. BlueJays in this one. Pioneer @ Caston - As I said, Caston improved but if #10 keeps following his blockers, Pioneer could run over the Comets. Winamac @ LaVille - So Pioneer has a loss, LaVille a loss, this is a big one for LV. If Lancers can get the offense cranking, we could have three HNAC teams with a loss a piece. Got to score more than once a game to get this one. WHS gets this one. Bremen @ Triton - Bremen gets it done here. Culver @ West Central - Pickin' the Cavs In This One. Like What Coach Zehner does with the boys! as always the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  16. Do we know that this young man did not have his seat belt secured and/or that he was on his phone? This could have been what it was . . . an automobile accident. If you know the facts, that is different. I do not read anywhere on this thread that he did not have seat belt on and/or that he was on his phone. Please, let's now assume. as always the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  17. Just a reminder to those that browse THE Gridiron Digest . . . Please consider a donation to help THE Gridiron Digest with the annual fees. Every dollar helps the cause ! I'll be answering DT's call for donations soon. as always the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  19. Yes. I indicated in the opening two HNAC games. Just forgot to *HNAC the game in the schedule portion. My bad . . . as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  20. No time like the present to start talking about the season getting started. Here is the Week #1 Schedule There are two HNAC games to open the season while everyone else is playing non-conference opposition: So, Who Ya Got? Friday Aug. 20 LaVille at Bremen Lewis Cass at Pioneer NJSP at Culver Community South Central (UM) at Triton West Central at Caston Winamac at Knox* (HNAC) As always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  21. All: With the recent 55th Annual IFCA North-South All-Star Football Game, are there records out there . . . somewhere . . . that shows how many players have represented each school? And, if there is a count per school, would there be a list of names that might appear as well? Example: Ben Davis 12 (Joe Smith, Jimmy Davis, etc. . . . ) or Roncalli 20 I'm just throwing numbers out and names as an example? If there are such numbers, would names happen to go with that count? Thanks for any help anyone might be able to provide. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  22. So For Coach Younis, he was the Triton Head Football Coach from 2001 to 2012. The Trojans went 42 - 90 during that span. THS won sectional titles in 2007 and 2008. Coach returned in 2019 when Ron Brown left after three seasons. So in answer to your two questions: To my knowledge, this is his second stint at Triton. Yes, he was the Triton Head Coach in 2007. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  23. Winamac defeated NJSP 14-8 in sectional championship at NJSP. Pioneer defeated Chesterton 20-16 in Week #2 and lost to New Haven 32-28 in Week #3. Both games played at Pioneer . . . Winamac and LaVille were unable to play. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  24. I figured we get the conversation started here at HNAC Central . . . The 2021 Hoosier North Athletic Conference season will be upon us before we know it. Who ya'll got in scrimmage? Then Week #1 features two games as HNAC openers - NJSP at Culver Community and Winamac at Knox. All the remaining HNAC teams face non-conference foes to start the season. Friday, Aug. 20 LaVille at Bremen, 7 pm Cass at Pioneer, 7 pm North Judson at Culver ©, 7 pm South Central at Triton, 7:30 pm West Central at Caston, 7 pm Winamac at Knox ©, 7:30 pm There will be no new faces in charge of the eight HNAC football programs to start 2021. Will Porter returns for his second season at Caston after the Comets finished 3-8 overall and won its first round sectional game for the first time since 2014. Mike Zehner is back for his sixth season at Culver after the Cavaliers finished 3-8 overall. Russ Radtke is ready for his second season on the sidelines at Knox after a 6-5 mark a year ago. It is the fifth straight winning season for Redskin Football. Will Hostrawser is the HNAC veteran, returning for his ninth season in Lakeville following a 6-2 record. It is the seventh straight winning season for Lancer Football since Hostrawser took over the reins to start the 2013 season. Brett Lambert comes back for his third season as the boss at North Judson-San Pierre. Lambert guided the BlueJays to six of seven victories before a narrow second round loss to Winamac in the sectional. Adam Berry continues in his sixth season at Pioneer. The Panthers closed the 2021 season at 12-2 overall and have 25 consecutive winning seasons dating back to 1995. Pioneer made quite the schedule adjustment last year due to COVID, getting the better part of Chesterton and New Haven in Week 2 and Week 3, respectively, en route to a run to the semi-state round before dropping a 42-34 decision at Fort Wayne Luers. Though Randy Younis is in his 14th season at Triton, Younis is in his second go-round following a six-year break from 2013-2018. Younis is currently in his third year upon his second run pacing the sidelines of Trojan Football. John Hendryx is back for his second year at Winamac. Hendryx took the Warriors to the 2021 sectional title before a 37-32 loss to Lafayette Central Catholic in the regional round. It was the first sectional trophy for Winamac since 2016. As the July workouts begin in full force, any newcomers inside the locker room? Any preseason conference predictions? Who has the best defense in the HNAC coming back? Where will the HNAC offense stand? Looking forward to a more normal season ahead in 2021! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
  25. Great to hear that Coach Glon landed on his feet! Agreed . . . great guy, great coach. All the best, Coach! as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007
