  1. We are seeing a new period of emerging PP dominance, (based on what info & data exactly?) due primarily to the PPs ability to better manage and manuever their way thru the COVID Pandemic (how did you come to this conclusion? What evidence, other than your opinion, do you have that this is factually correct?). Most observers will agree (Assumes facts not in evidence, to say the least) that common sense (so called “common sense” is neither common nor often based on said “sense”) would dictate that PP football programs generally play "up" during the regular season and "down" during the post season. This reality defies all good logic and common sense, and clearly has a negative overall impact on competitive balance within the classes. (The reason for this is entirely geographical. Most of these programs are from smaller schools located in cities with larger public schools. For convenience, cost of travel, safety of the students, etc. these schools choose play teams that are nearby. Nothing sinister going on.) Under this new proposal, PPs will accept their new 2.0 Multiplied Classification, or have the option to contract their football program. (Power has gone to someone’s head, me thinks!?) There are several throughout the state that might seriously consider contraction.
  2. This is why I support the idea of hosting Regionals & Semi-State games at a neutral fields. Ideally, neutral fields that are similar distances from schools involved but I understand that could be problematic. Those who chime in with “but we earned the right to host a Home game” are delusional IMO. BOTH teams made it to the game by winning their Sectional, Regional, etc. so both have equally earned the right to host. The only reason one team is made the Home/Host team are the IHSAA rules that alternate every Host teams btwn the higher/lower sectionals/Regional every other year. How is that “earning” the right to host? Below are this year's rules for "Determining Home Team" for Regionals straight from IHSAA site. Next year, they will be simply reversed with Host team for even # divisions (2A, 4A & 6A) being the "lower" sectional instead of "higher". Not exactly "earning" it for any of the teams involved IMHO. Determining Home Team Classes 2A, 4A, 6A Sectional final game non-host, if applicable, or higher sectional # (i.e., Sect. 2 is higher than Sect. 1). Classes A, 3A & 5A Sectional final game non-host, if applicable, or lower sectional # (i.e., Sect. 1 is lower than Sect. 2).
  3. STOP MAKING SENSE! Someone's brain is going to EXPLODE!
  4. Agree. Per their stats, they are a good but not great running team with around 180 yds per game. Total offense is only around 230 yds per game...kind of makes you wonder how they scored so many pts...must have a really good D. S Still, I am going to give the rematch to the Wildcats 31 - 14. No real reason other than I am an admitted & unapologetic "homer" & a die-hard Wildcat fan!
  5. That was one option. Are you offering to write the check for hotel & meal expenses?
  6. Rematch from 2019 where TC Defense made life difficult for MD Offense and TC took home the Regional title 13 - 7. As I recall, there was very little conversation btwn fans leading up to that game so not certain we can expect a whole lot more this time around. Would enjoy hearing from TC opponents on the GID about what makes TC go this year: defense, offense, blend of both? Who ya got and why...
  7. Sectionals are completely up to the luck of the draw as to where you are placed in the bracket. There has been much discussion of seeding the sectionals but the IHSAA has shown little interest in this.
  8. Be "Humble in victory, gracious in defeat"...very nice statement in support of your team, Miner Pride. Classy guy, classy fans, classy program - wishing you all the best next season - at least until we meet again if the stars so align.
  9. I probably should have made it more clear that this was the first time this year I have actually listened to a game on the radio that had a running clock. I must confess I tuned out of several MD games after halftime when the score was lopsided... Last night, you could not see the clock on the livestream and the announcers did not seem to be aware of the running clock until part way through the 4th qtr so it was all a bit confusing as a listener. Mea culpa.
  10. Madison rams his way into end zone for Bears. Bears go 94 yds in 4 mins for victory over Tigers. Great game by all accounts. Dan Egierski on radio is almost as good as being there...almost.
  11. Bears' FB Madison drags defenders from 14 to 2 on BIG play for Bears. 9 secs left and last time out for Bears...last play?
  12. Bears with 3rd & 1 on Tiger 26 with 43 secs left.
  13. Bears get a first down on short pass to Evans...O line lines up offside, 1st down & 15 1;30 to go
  14. 4th & 3 for Bears on Tiger 43...2 mins left in somebody's season. Time out.
  15. Central FB Javonte Madison just carried most of the Tiger's defense for about 25 yds. 1st down Bears at midfield with about 3 mins to go. Madison is down after the play, however.
  16. Evv. Memorial making an effort to end the Central Bears' season for a 2nd straight year... Tigers up 21 - 17 with under 5 mins to play after pinning the Bears back on their own 5 yd line with a nice punt. This could be last drive of game for the Bears...
  17. Not the game most of us expected but happy to walk away with the "W" at this time of the year. MD got out to the 37 -0 lead but Miners made a good effort at a rally to close it out at 37 -20. Appreciated the play by play guys on livestream tonight. Man, the main guy barely gets a chance to breath with all the sponsor promos he has to do btwn plays. Great to see Linton community supporting their team. The prime rib special from the local sports pub about had me grabbing my car keys and making a road trip.😷 I do have one question...what was the deal with the running clock towards the end of the game? Obviously that rule has changed this year but first time we have been subject to it this year. It was 37 - 14 to begin the fourth quarter, but that is when the running clock seemed to kick in - ?
  18. I think the term "Down, but not out" always applies to teams like Memorial; disciplined, well coached, determined. They may have had some unfortunate injuries late in the season but if a team comes in a little over confident - something the Bears have been guilty of at times - the Tigers could steal one. Central has all the tools to go deep in the tournament but have tripped themselves up at times, IMO. Best of luck to both teams.
  19. In past years, there would be a group of us who would meet at the State Championship games, usually in one of the end zones to shake hands and put faces with screen names. That is where I first met "TA"... still hard to believe he is no longer with us. Much too soon. Without Tim Adams, where would all go to discuss all these REALLY IMPORTANT things!
  20. Good luck SR Raiders!
  21. To me, this is all just part of the experience and often the part we remember most years later. I remember throwing those kids passes but couldn't tell the game, the score, etc if my life depended on it.
  22. Back in the day - OLD MAN TELLING A STORY ALERT - before the Bowl had turf installed, kids used to go down on the field and play during halftime, after the band left. I would take my boys down as well and would often end up throwing passes to alI kids who used to line up. Once the turf was installed, Reitz maintenance crew would chase us off field because somehow our tennis shoes were going to damage the field. Go figure. I think he was just a grouchy dude who hated to see all the kids - including the really old one, having so much fun!
  23. Completely agree. I may have disagreed with some of your thoughts & opinions outlined in this thread but I respect them, nonetheless. Opinions are based on each of our own personal experiences in life and that is why they will often differ. Doesn't make them wrong, just different. One of my fave college profs used to say that "real understanding occurs at the point which two competing opinions collide". Life has shown that to be true.
  24. EXACTLY! Very well put. MD "recruits" new kids everytime they face the crowd and raise their helmets after victory. Kids of all ages are sitting in the stands (at least in a normal year!)see that and want to be a part of it. I imagine this is no different than most successful programs be it sports, band, cheer, STEM, etc. Success breeds success.
  25. The only "non-public" schools that exist in Evansville are the two catholic schools, Mater Dei & Memorial, Evansville Day School - a true private school ($$$), and Evansville Christian School, which opened 3-4 yrs ago. What people cannot seem to grasp - or simply don't want to - about the "recruiting" situation btwn these schools is there really isn't any to speak of. There is a lot of family tradition and territorial loyalty that exist among Mater Dei & Memorial famlies. Generally, kids who grow up on the East side and attend the east deanery schools, attend Memorial. Kids from the west side and west deanery school, generally attend Mater Dei. I say "generally" because there are a number of kids, esp on the west side, who leave the catholic feeder schools to attend Reitz. Academically, Reitz is a very well-regarded school, easily on par with MD with none of the extra cost. That is a factor for some families. Rarely do west side kids end up at Memorial or vice versa. As an example, Paul McIntosh, the great QB of what are considered to be some of the best Reitz teams ever, was a west side catholic feeder school kid who could have gone to MD but chose RHS. It is rare for kids who attended EVSC grade schools to attend MD. It does happen, but very rarely. I say this as a past member of the Evv Catholic School Board, privy to the numbers from all school across the Diocese & EVSC.
