2A Regional: Mater Dei @ Triton Central
MDAlum82 replied to MDAlum82's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Certainly anything is possible with high school kids but close games with Memorial @ 10-3, Central @ 10 – 7 and Reitz @ 31- 28 should have prepared them to win in a close game. Reitz was only team to put more than 2 TDs on starting D all season so I am putting my faith in the Defense and going with MD@ 28-14. Fingers crossed... -

http://indianahsfootball.homestead.com/ Let's hope your recent string of prediction accuracy holds up! Good luck next week and ...Hold that Tiger! -
Fans of both teams have not been frequent posters here so far but maybe that will change now that both have reached the final 8 in 2A. Early prediction from John Harrell gives no love to the Wildcats 🐱 for 3rd week in a row. Despite being a near 9 pt favorite in Sagarin, JH is picking TC @ home, 24 - 23. CalPreps gives MD the nod, 22 - 14, on a neutral field so maybe take back a FG and go with 22 - 17(?). MD will have to travel 3 hours north for what will likely be a Saturday afternoon game. Any TC fans with advance info on day & time? Can they overcome the long drive and use the 3rd consecutive Harrell slight as bulletin board motivation? Long term weather forecast calls for mostly sunny day with temps in mid 40s, dropping into mid 20's at night. TC plays on turf so field conditions should not be much of an issue, regardless of weather. TC fans, if you would be so kind as to share your recommendations of the better local eateries, it would be much appreciated. I personally prefer true local options instead of national chains but any feedback will be greatly appreciated. If there is anything most West Siders enjoy besides our Bud Light and Half Pot tkts, it is good food! Google says best route is I-69 north to Indy, I-465 East around Indy, then south on I-74 (~ 3hrs) but if there are other/better alternatives, esp when you get close to school, those would be appreciated as well. Best of luck to both teams for a well-played and injury free game. Hope everyone travels safely.

Nk's 2nd drive stalls after a couple of nice 1st downs. MD takes the punt back to near original NK LOS and proceeds to drive down field 70 yds to 2nd TD. 14 - 0. NK showing ability to get yardage via run but MD Defense adhering to the bend but don't break mantra. 10:06 left in 2nd qtr. -

MD takes advantage of short field and takes their 1st drive to house for 7 - 0 lead early in 1st qtr. NK was able to get a couple of 1st downs on only 3 plays before the fumble. -

Again, with the ad hominem personal attack? Most of us left this stuff behind in 5th grade. What next, a "Your Momma" joke? SMH "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak (or bang on a keyboard) and remove all doubt". ~ Mark Twain -

No I didn't go back and "read your post on page one", I was not replying to that post. I was replying to the 3-4-5 posts from earlier today. This was not a research project, at least not on my part. I do find in interesting, however, to see how when people cannot articulate a cogent response, they resort to name calling (skippy) and insults (Apparently, you have issues that probably should be addressed). Suffice to say we all have issues to address of one sort or another. For example, I need to get ready for what will be a very cold football game tonight and you need to hand out basketball unis. (Apologies to the more reasonable Miner fans out there. I hate it as much as the next fan with football season ends…) Peace, out -

Funny how being such a “sore winner” I didn’t bother posting until about the 4th or 5th time (just in the last few hours) someone prattled on about LS “mental errors” costing them the game, or LS shooting themselves in the foot, et al. The game was a week ago. LET. IT. GO.…shm. In closing, Mr. Amazing Kreskin, please explain for the reading audience how you “mentally allocate” physical activities such as a fumble, a bad snap, or a thrown interception as “mental mistakes”…. Skippy will wait… -

Actually, chalking the errors up as being “mental” i.e. “unforced errors”, is completely dismissing the fact that MD played well. That was the entire basis of my post. Such comments ignore the not insignificant role MDs’ defensive pressure played in forcing those errors. That, in and of itself, was the dis-respectful part of your statement(s). -

Foolish comments like this are why I so rarely post these days as surely someone will get their panties in a wad over what I am about to post and decide to flame me for it. Well, flame on… The argument that LS “shot itself in the foot” is both short-sighted of what actually occurred on the field last wk & highly dismissive of the effort put in by the MD defense, IMO. Pressuring the other team into making mistakes is the entire basis of winning football & competitive sports, in general. To begin with, “the tipped pass” was the result of a great play by an MD D Lineman who beat the blocker (the first of many times!) and the LB being focused enough to see the ball in the air and make a play. The many fumbles were certainly influenced by, if not directly caused, by the fact that the MD Defense was in the LS backfield shaking hands with the QB & creating havoc - ALL. NIGHT. LONG. It becomes demonstrably more difficult to hand the ball off with a D linemen or LB in your face. Further, when you are being hit/tackled even as the QB attempts to hand you the ball, it is much more difficult to hold onto it. LS was a fine team that unfortunately did not have its best game against another fine team. I doubt we would have the same or similar result if the game were played 20 times. However, to completely dismiss MD’s role in why & how LS “shot itself in the foot” is further proof that denial is not just river in Egypt… Mi dos centavos. -

SECTIONAL 40 ROUND 2
MDAlum82 replied to itiswhatitis's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
From an outsider's pt of view, it was an odd time-out, even the radio guys called it out as "unusual". The game was using a running clock and the result was no longer in doubt so there was no tactical reason for it. However, logically, there must have been some reason, and it was likely related to the players . Only the coach knows for certain. The biggest issue an opponent might take with such a move is the need for another, completely unnecessary play to be ran. Anything can & will happen on the field and you are putting players at risk, even if minimally. Fortunately, nothing bad happened and hopefully whatever goal the coach had in mind was accomplished. No harm, no foul here. -

SECTIONAL 40 ROUND 2

Apparently no love for the Wildcat's from Harrell for 2nd wk in a row. I was mildly surprised with the Harrell pick of Linton over MD, esp at the Bowl, but most viewed the game as a toss up going in. Curious how MD is only a 4pt favorite over NK, esp after last night. Calpreps favors MD 31 - 14, & Sagarin gives MD +14. One of my newfound friends in stripes made the prediction of a MD working with running clock by halftime vs NK. That remains to be seen but only 4 points seems awfully thin to me. Anywhere that tracks how well Sagarin or Harrell do with their predictions? -
SECTIONAL 40 ROUND 2
MDAlum82 replied to itiswhatitis's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Prescient comments Uncle, as the game was definitely decided in the trenches, IMO. MD's D line was able to get yds penetration most of the night which created all sorts of issues for the Miners and resulted in several TOs. I would venture a guess that is the most fumbles Linton has had this year (if not several years) with 4 or 5 fumbles & 3 lost in first half alone and a total of 5 TOs overall for the game with the 2 INTs. Hard to win a game with that many TOs at any level. IMHO, you saw a little bit of how "strength of schedule" does matter, at least to some extent. For certain, it isn't the one stat above all others by any means. However, MD benefits from playing the larger Evansville schools where even some of weaker teams often have above avg size in their lines & more speed at the skill positions than we do in a typical year. Having to deal with those conditions every week is huge help in preparing us for playoffs. I had the pleasure of sitting next to a couple of old guard officials from the Linton area, Mr Beach (still refereeing @67!) & Mr Devault (retired after the Central Vs Jasper Mud Bowl game about 10 yrs ago). They had some great insights into not only the game last night but the high school game, in general. Thanks for sharing some great stories from between the lines and I hope we cross paths again. -

Curiously “odd” to see posters purporting to support both Southridge & South Spencer jawing on this thread about a game btwn Linton & MD. Certainly, everyone is welcome to an opinion on this forum but representing them as from one of the involved teams seem a bit disingenuous. Pot stirring perhaps?
