6A Tournament: OFFICIAL Thread
FastpacedO replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
A reasonable person on a committee would look at both teams (Crown Point and Fishers) and see that those 2 losses that Fishers had were 49-24 to 6A #2 Carmel (8-1 lone loss to Trinity Louisville KY) and 42-14 at 6A #1 Brownsburg (9-0). They will take into account that Fishers was 6-3 playing the #1 SOS in Indiana and Crown Point was 9-0 playing the 31st SOS in Indiana. They will account that Fishers opponents were 49-32 on the year and Crown Points opponents were 37-45. They will see that every opponent Fisher played was in 6A and they played 5 of 9 opponents that were ranked in the top 10 (going 2-3). They will see Crown Point played 3 6a schools, 5 5A schools, and 1 4A school none were in the top 10 of 6A, 2 were in the top 10 of 5A (Merrillville at #3 and Michigan City at #9), and 1 was top 10 in 4A (#9 Lowell). There would be a lot more to look at than just "Fishers lost in blowouts in 2 games", they could also look into opinions would the result be different if Crown Point played Carmel or Brownsburg. You will die on that mountain won't you? Even though I pointed out this: Westfield beat HSE at HSE 21-17 in 4 full quarters HSE beat Carroll FW at HSE 14-7 in 4 full quarters -

He is correct, reading from my phone I mistook that he had "to" instead of "from". I am not scared to admit when I am in the wrong. I will say though that Carroll never was a part if my posts in this thread. I've no idea where that came from. -

Please do quote me where I said anything about Fishers and Carroll. I have specifically stated Crown Point and put them at a 4 seed, sorry if you are upset about that. -

You can say I have no credibility if you want. I do know one thing I certainly am not going to tout Pike (3-6) as a good win. And they certainly are nowhere in the stratosphere of Brownsburg, Carmel, or Westfield. Their last outing was a 42-7 thumping to Lawrence North (who has an outstanding RB and are very athletic)). I just don't know that the LN defense can stop the Brownsburg or Carmel offense). LN probably has the shiftiest, most athletic, and talented RB in the state. Feel free to watch some film on him. I still would take Brownsburg and Carmel over LN. I would probably have LN and Westfield as a toss up and LN slightly above Fishers. I would have LN above CP, CP would score some points against the LN defense but Zay Moore would have a field day with the CP defense. -

1.) Nope I meant what I stated CP would lose to Fishers. I would take Fishers by 7 points at minimum a 3 point victory. You don't have to like my opinion and can laugh all you want. I stated what I stated. I think Sturgill, Rozzi, and Thembulembu would have a terrific game against the CP Bulldogs. All 3 of them played fantastic against Carmel. They had a rough time in game 1 stopping the Greyhounds offense. 2.) Crown Point has not played ANYONE in the same hemisphere as Carmel, Brownsburg, and even Westfield. That includes Merrillville! So where would they get that massive blowout from? Fishers wouldn't either with Crown Points schedule. Fishers schedule strength sits at #1 right now Crown Point 39, only Penn (123), FW Northrop (82), and Elkahrt (114) in the top 25 of 6A via Sagarin have a weaker schedule and only Penn in the top 10. 3.) Thankfully for all of us you aren't on any committee and won't be wasting 72 hours of your time. Even if there were seeding there wouldn't be a committee that decides on their own. They would likely use a point system similar to Sagarin but also takes into account all opponents and the opponent's record, in which case those numbers wouldn't be far off from Sagarin the seed proposed using Sagarin. 4.) You lost ALL credibility calling a win over Pike a good looking win and stating that it out weighs a loss to Brownsburg and Carmel. Pike (3-6) is not good by any stretch of the imagination this year. Pike's only 3 wins are against Southport (1-8), 3A Guerin Catholic (5-4) and North Central (2-7). Pike lost to HCC bottom feeder Zionsville (3-6, 2-5 in conference play) 27-7. Lowell is having a much improved year in 4A but are in no way shape or form a good comparison to Carmel or Brownsburg, sorry they just aren't. Merrillville while some talented players have never been a real threat I would not put them on same footing as Brownsburg or Carmel. They are to date the best team Crown Point has played I would have them lower than both Lawrence North and HSE (both of whom Fishers beat) and not even in the same stratosphere as Carmel or Brownsburg. 5.) Good for you for recognizing the obvious you have made little bits of strides. -

I think you still reward winning and a 4 seed is a good spot for Crown Point and still rewarding winning as they would get a home game (if there were seeding). While I think you reward winning I think you also take into account who the winning was done against. To be completely honest if there were to be seeding overall you would have to have something other than Sagarin, Sagarin is good but it totally removes out of state opponents from the equation. Doing something similar to sagarin but takes in the records of opponents and includes games against out of state opponents and their record/schedule would be ideal. For the record Crown Point is a solid football team. I do think though Westfield and Fishers would be 9-0 playing Lowell, Pike, Merrillville, Lake Central Portage, Valparaiso, Laporte, Chesterton, and Michigan City. Now what do I think CP would do playing Fishers or Westfields schedule (granted I know none of the teams get to fully choose their schedule)? Playing Westfield's schedule: Homestead - CP would win, Carmel CP would lose, Zionsville - CP would win, Noblesville - CP would win, HSE - CP could win or lose, Brownsburg - CP would lose, Avon -CP could win or lose, Fishers - CP would lose, Franklin Central - CP would win. (I see 4-5 or 6-3) Playing Fisher's schedule: Carmel - CP would lose, Lawrence North - CP would lose, Noblesville - CP would win, HSE -CP could win or lose, Brownsburg - CP would lose, Avon - CP would win or lose, Franklin Central - CP would win, Westfield - CP would lose, Zionsville - CP would win ( I see 3-6 or 5-4). Just my opinion -

I think where Crown Point is seeded at 4 is pretty accurate. You have to look at it this way: 1 Seed Carmel - Would you say Crown Point is better than Carmel? I wouldn't. Would you say CP would be 8-1 playing Carmel schedule? I wouldn't I could see them at 4-5 or 5-4. 2 Seed Westfield - Would you say CP could do better than a 34-10 loss to Carmel or a 14-10 loss to Brownsburg? I wouldn't. Would you say CP would be 7-2 with Westfield' schedule? I wouldn't I could see them at worse 3-6 best 5-4. 3 seed Fishers - Would you say CP could do better than a 49-24 loss to Carmel, 42-14 loss to Brownsburg, or 14-7 loss to Westfield? I wouldn't. Would you say they would go 6-3 with Fishers schedule? I wouldn't I could see them 3-6 or 4-5. So I think 4 seed is pretty accurate for Crown Pont if there were to be seeding. -

Not to fret the Bishop Chatard Trojans have a nice newish field on campus with field turf. Cleats won't need to be changed unless everyone wants to walk from Crittenden and Kessler to 61st and Compton to the field of champions. I am sure @Lysander could gather some pals to blow the dust off the bleachers and splice wires snipped from Arlington for the lights.😂😂 In that case I would bring 2 pairs of cleats and a pair of tennis shoes for the walk to the stadium. I am sure everyone will be happy with playing on the turf at Crittenden and Kessler though. -

I 100% expected Chatard to have a rough night against Elder even with the game at Chatard. Elder is sitting in the top spot in Ohio Div 1 for a reason. As for Cathedral if you were to tell me at kickoff the Irish would be up 14-7 at half and win 28-21 I would have called you crazy. I really didn't fully expect that, and I will say this Cathedral team is full of fighters. The Irish being down their starting SR QB, 1 of their top 2 RB's, their top SR WR, Their top 2 TE's (one of which leads the team in receiving), and their top offensive lineman, along with 2 defensive players. There were 7 on offense and 2 on defense ruled out before kickoff and they lost another defender on nasty unnecessary hit out of bounds in that game. The other SR RB put the team on his back and went off for 34 carries 241 yards rushing and 3 TD's to fight for that one. If the Irish want to have any shot to try an beat New Pal they need to get as healthy as possible (a couple f players are out for the season). Things are set-up for them to try an get healthy with a 3 weeks to do so being out against WC, with a bye week, and a game against Anderson prior to a possible match-up at New Pal. Even without those starters they have been scrappy. new Pal is a solid well coached team though and the Irish want to be healthy. -

Cameron and Warfield went off in that game for sure. Cameron has been throwing up good numbers in passing yards but the Int's have been very high. He did a better job in hitting Avon jersey's with the ball rather than opposing jersey's in the Brownsburg game. I have no idea what happened to Brownsburg's defense in that game maybe they weren't expecting what they saw from Avon's offense. Fortunately for Brownsburg their offense was a machine and able to keep scoring. If Avon beats Ben Davis and Brownsburg beats Pike the game will be in Brownsburg this time instead of Avon. -

Against Indiana opponents Carmel had been pretty solid Lawrence Central being the anomaly. That being said I have been finding it very difficult to find a team that can stop Brownsburg. Brownsburg is pretty solid in all 3 phases of the game. Outside of the Avon game (which is a big rivalry game that many don't understand not you @BDGiant93 or @temptation ) their defense has been stellar, and only Westfield's defense has held them to 14 points they have scored 29 or more in every other game. It is very hard to pick against Brownsburg this year. With Westfield and Carmel one of them will be knocked out. I just don't see a team that is as solid in all 3 phases in the South as Brownsburg, Center Grove will likely be the best shot just due to outstanding coaching but CG has had some inconsistency too. Lawrence North has twitchy Zay Moore who can create havoc, but can their defense stop Brownsburg? Brownsburg looks to be the most consistent team thus far in 6A. -

Well to be fair they had a homefield "Arlington Middle School which use to be Arlington High School" until @Lysander snipped some wires to the lights during the Chatard game 😂🤣 Actually the IHSAA likely wouldn't let them use Arlington going by past IHSAA decisions not letting Chatard use the field of champions at Broad Ripple. Not even with the promise of walking the fields to pick up broken glass j/k. I still don't completely understand why they haven't put in plans to build a field at Brunette Park where their Baseball and softball and soon to be soccer and Lacrosse teams will play. It could be in the future I have no idea to be honest. https://www.facebook.com/cathedralhighschool/posts/construction-on-brunette-field-is-almost-complete-and-we-are-ready-to-play-at-th/1434520308079899/ -

They have multiple middle schools that play CYO football. Subtle reminder Cathedral existed and was playing football 34 years before Scecina Memorial was built, 43 years before Bishop Chatard was built, 45 years before Cardinal Ritter was built, and 50 years before Roncalli was established by merging Kennedy Memorial (Sacred Heart) and Chartrand. -

I do believe Mr. Polston is back in the DC lineup after being injured week 1 against Avon and missing the New Pal game. I think right now the Irish coaches are just hoping to be as healthy as they can be going into the tournament rather than who the opponent is and if they are favored or not. They have really been hit with the injury bug hard. -
I would agree, but I have seen crazy things happen in the past. 2000 Cathedral @ Plainfield comes to mind. Cathedral back to back State Champs in 98 and 99 look to be on cruise control in 2000 going 10-0 and crushing opponents. Quakers pull out a surprising victory that surprised everyone with a 14-7 second round sectionals victory. That was a different built Plainfield team though, I think New Pal is much better than Plainfield though.
-
Not to worry. If New Palestine beats Plainfield the Sectional Championship will be at New Palestine. If Plainfield beats New Palestine the Sectional Championship will be hosted by Cathedral. I would say New Palestine is the heavy favorite to beat Plainfield. I would also say Cathedral is the team who most needed to play Anderson to start the tournament. In order to get somewhat healthy they needed to catch a break.

Which Anon schedule would DC be playing. It leaves a lot open for the picking! Only kidding I know you meant Avon, but couldn't waste an opportunity! -

State Final's history since moving to Lucas Oil (6A and 5A because 6A wasn't created until 2013) In 6A there have been 12 State Champions and 12 Runner-up. Indy Metro has had 20 of 24 teams in those 12 years and an Indy metro area team has won all 12. In 5A since moving to Lucas Oil (2008) there have been 17 State Champions and 17 Runner Up. Indy Metro has had 24 of 34 teams in those 17 and an Indy metro area team has won 13 of 17. If you go prior to Lucas Oil in 5A there were 23 State Champions and 23 Runner-ups only 21 of the 46 teams were Indy Metro. A lot better representation from non Indy Metro. Indy Metro teams won 15 of 23 State Championships during that period. Or change the feeder program. I will say it will be more of a challenge this stint with Coach Wright as HC than it was his last stint, Coach Moriarity left the program in good shape when Coach Wright took over the first time. He does have some experience with that, Warren Central was pretty much mediocre when he took over that program. -
Cathedral at Center Grove

I 100% agree with what you stated. The good thing is he got to see heavy pressure in a regular season game so it does not come as a surprise come tournament time and not know how to react. Probably one of the biggest things I like about games like CG vs Cathedral, they both push each other to get better (just my opinion and I am a nobody lol). -

Common opponent 1 - One played them week 1 and the other week 7I would think both teams have improved since week 1. Aside from that Westfield is more of a run first team Carroll is a pass heavy team. Westfield amassed 262 yds rushing and 63 yds passing holding Homestead to 71 passing and 22 rushing. Carroll threw for 300 ran for 71 holding Homestead to 148 passing 87 rushing. Common Opponent 2 - A loss is a loss. I didn't and wouldn't tout a loss to Brownsburg. I simply said them holding Brownsburg who is averaging 39 points per game to 14 points is eye opening (says Westfield's defense is pretty solid) that being said their Offense only scored 10 points. Brownsburg in my opinion is better than all 6A teams with Carmel likely the closest to them. -
Cathedral at Center Grove
FastpacedO replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
So what you are really trying to say is that you really enjoy "Moob's" 🤣😂 All in fun! Both teams are pretty banged up the Irish without their top rusher (although Dangerfield and Pappas share time at RB) and also lost 1 of their top O-lineman for the year prior to the CG game. CG dipping way into the well of RB's (on a positive note future CG starting backs getting some valuable reps). Here is to hoping both teams get as healthy as they can prior to the tournament. CG will be okay as their QB develops. The Irish defense has been one of their bright spots this year as long as their Offense doesn't put them in tough situations or have them on the field the majority of the game. The blitzing is a positive thing for the Irish to help their DB's out. I think this pressure in the long run will help the Soph QB for CG. Now he has some real game experience with a lot of QB pressure for future experience. -

I think you should go back and do a double take on your FW Carroll and Westfield common opponent hot take. Common Opponent number 1: Westfield over Homestead 35-0 FW Carroll over Homestead 49-0 Common Opponent number 2: Westfield over Hamilton Southeastern 21-17 Hamilton Southeastern over FW Carroll 14-7 I won't make Westfield out to be the better than what they are. I will say Westfield is the only team to hold Brownsburg to 14 points in a 14-10 loss 1 week ago. Brownsburg is averaging 39 points per game so that is not something to just gloss over. That being said there is a resurging Carmel team who looks to be the likely favorite from the north what a difference when Coach Wright came in as Head Coach a 3-7 team last year sitting at 6-1 this year. -

Is New Pal a Lock in 5A?
FastpacedO replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Yes Center Grove has always had money and resources well before Coach Moore. The 2 largest impact things that Coach Moore brought to Center Grove (aside form running the Wing T) 1.) Speed Development - This was a must when competing with the likes of Ben Davis and Warren Central on a regular basis joining the MIC. He had also become the HC of Track to develop speed. It now is very common for CG to be amongst the top in speed and that started with Moore. 2.) The Youth League - CG Bantham football is what many want to emulate, he put a lot of time an interest in the youth league and when it comes to the Wing T by the time the kids are in HS they could probably run Coach Moore's system in their sleep it has been etched into them from a young age. -

FastpacedO replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
CG had money and resources prior to Coach Moore. I find it odd that you would have Coach Ralph on a top 3 list but not Coach Moore. Center Grove before Eric Moore in 26 seasons snap shot: 137-122 with 1 Regional Title Center Grove with Eric Moore in 26 seasons snap shot: 259-81 with 18 Regional Titles, 8 Semi-State Titles, 5 State Titles A very impressive resume coming to CG and he was 48-5 at Charlotte HS in Florida where he was 2 times named coach of the year in Florida. In my opinion he is a hard lock in top 3 coaches.
