Not a very interesting slate this week. MD/Lincoln and North/Harrison will likely be the only games that have a chance of still being in doubt by halftime. This is why the SIAC needs two divisions.

Would be nice reviving the Border Bowl

Would love to play Owensboro Catholic this year...

Me too, that 2018 game was a dominant performance all around. I think it was like 42-0 at HT and shut them out too.

JH Opening lines:

Mater Dei at Lincoln (-4)

North (-14) at Harrison

Jasper at Reitz (-18)

Bosse at Castle (-21)

Central at Memorial (-39)

None of the matchups are real thrilling.   I’ll be watching to see if Lincoln and Harrison keep it close.

Harrison may have the offense to do so, if they can maintain it, I believe Knapp for Harrison had over 350 passing yards against Jasper.

MasseyRatings:

Mater Dei (-6) at Lincoln, 59% chance of winning for the Wildcats

Jasper at Reitz (-22), 86% chance of winning for the Panthers

North (-30) at Harrison, 94% chance of winning for the Huskies

Bosse at Castle (-34), 97% chance of winning for the Knights

Central at Memorial (-39), 100% chance of winning for the Tigers

Lack of exciting matchups this week. Hopefully a few end up competitive but I could see all blowouts.

North at Harrison - The Warriors are coming off a confidence builder and are at home, which has the recipe for an upset. I do think they can keep this one close for a while but I think they will struggle to score on North. I think the Huskies are able to do more of what they want this week considering that Harrison has struggled against the run. I will take the Huskies by two scores.

Jasper at Reitz - The Panthers are looking very good despite missing several key players through two weeks including their returning QB. I believe they will have everyone back this week. Bad news for Jasper. The Panthers have had their number the past few seasons and I think this year is no different. Give me the Panthers by four scores.

Bosse at Castle - The Knights were humbled by MD last week and they will be hungry to get back on track. Not many other ways to put it, but Bosse is not good and will probably go winless. I will take the Knights in a running clock.

Central at Memorial - The Bears and their coach got the evasive win finally. But sadly no amount of confidence or momentum could help them keep this a game. I will take the Tigers in a running clock.

GAME OF THE WEEK:

Mater Dei at Lincoln - only because this has more potential to be close than the other games. However, MD is playing well and VL just took a beating from a tough Reitz team. And I think the Alices are missing a few players due to injury or disciplinary reasons. Again, it is tough to go play well at VL but give me the Wildcats by three scores.

Bosse at Castle (-39), 99% chance of winning for the Knights

Central at Memorial (-50), 99% chance of winning for the Tigers

Most of the lines this week seem accurate but -35 for a Jasper vs. Reitz game seems insane.

Yes, based on previous years, but I would take Reitz at that line assuming the starters played the entire game.

Calpreps uses neutral fields for their predictions, but when you plug it in MasseyRatings as a Neutral Game, Reitz is a 14 point favorite on his site.

If the Mighty Panthers don't beat Jasper by more than 14 there ought to be an investigation. Jasper is giving up 35 points and 400+ yds. per game.

I think I read that there has only been one game decided by 35+ in the history of that matchup. I know Reitz has had their number recently, but it’s typically a competitive matchup. That being said, I wouldn’t be shocked if Reitz wins by multiple scores. They should be at full strength and able to open up the offense more.

Historically yes, its always been a fairly close match-up. Reitz beat Jasper by 27 last time at the Bowl. And that was a pretty good Jasper team. At least after two games, this might be one of the more challenged Jasper D units we've seen in quite a while (a long while IMO). I have to think Coach Lewis returning to the Bowl always gives the Reitz folks a little more juice and being at full strength for the first time all season could make it a long night for the JCats.

Picks:

North at Harrison

North made it closer than what the score indicates last week against Memorial thanks to their defense. However, their offense was kept in check by Memorial’s Defense and couldn’t move down the field. Harrison, went back and forth against Jasper last week before their gas ran out. But, their offense managed to score in each quarter and gave Jasper a massive scare. North’s Defense should be able to stop Harrison’s, surprisingly, quick offense and be able open up the Husky Offense. I’ll take North by 17 in this matchup

Jasper at Reitz

Jasper managed to fend off an improved Harrison team by scoring 2 late TDs to seal the deal. And opened their run game by rushing over 360 yards, but struggled defensively against the pass. Reitz looked good last week against Lincoln, as the Panthers were missing a couple of starters and still won by 24. The only negative of the game of the game was penalties. The Panthers return some missing starters, and Jasper is hoping to get some revenge this last couple of years. I’ll still take Reitz by 3 scores.

Bosse at Castle

The Bulldogs were 22 seconds away from a victory before they snatched from it. However, the face off against Castle team that is coming off a loss to MD. Castle by a running clock.

Central at Memorial

Central finally got their first win since 2021 and a little bit of momentum. The Tigers come with a 21 point victory against a defensively tough North team by scoring 2 late TDs against North. But, give me the Tigers in a running clock.

Game of the week

Mater Dei at Lincoln

Mater Dei has looked pretty good so far this season after beating the preseason #1 favorite Castle with a 2H comeback. The Wildcats offense moved the ball well as their QB racked up over 300 passing yards against Castle’s elite defense. But, the Mater Dei’s defense did not allow a single point in the 2H after giving up 24 in the 1H. Lincoln took a punch in the month against a somewhat depleted Reitz team and was hoping to make a noise for themselves. But couldn’t do much offensively or defensively against Reitz the entire game. Maybe playing against Mater Dei will light a fuse for Lincoln and continue their winning streak against them. Give me the Cats by 10.

Opening minutes of 4th quarter is probably more accurate. Fisher's 39 yd. was at the 11:45 mark and the 22 yd. pass to Anslinger was at 8:31. Thankfully we did not have to hear the "Mr. Sudsey" commercial in the second half...

Oh yes, that is right, I was thinking about the Central and Mater Dei games having late TDs and mixed them up.

Memorial’s Liam Bryant will miss tomorrow night’s game against Central.
