It should not be the job of government to "provide incentives", aka picking winners and losers, when it come to commercial and industrial development. Let the free and open market work that out without spending taxpayer dollars. As if private industry and private investment doesn't pick and choose winners and losers? Show me how depressed and dilapidated areas don't improve without investments in transportation, infrastructure, creation and attraction of jobs, etc. I also believe in private investment, but there has to be some level of incentive. If the Bears are going to invest heavily in the design and build of a new facility in NWI, is it really too much to ask for help with taxes, building of roads, etc. Companies like Lilly are investing billions in capital expansion across this country and in Europe. Do you think they are investing in areas like Gary? Do you think that does anything to attract and retain workforces, etc. But what if Gary was a much nicer place to live? Perhaps some upfront spending could lead to major private investment. Quote
Irishman Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I will give the Bears fans props here. Jim Cornelison sings the Anthem, and the fans understood the assignment. Being at a few Blackhawks games in the United Center to hear it is incredible, especially during the playoffs. It started I believe in the late 80's. But was first seen nationally for the 1991 NHL All Star Game in the old Madhouse on Madison, shortly after the outbreak of Desert Storm. It was the same year Whitney sang the Anthem at the Super Bowl. Great stuff 2 Quote

My seats are pretty close to the location he sings. When he finishes, its usually the 2nd flyover. Sends chills up the body!! 1 Quote
