Are we talking country club sports like golf, tennis, and swimming or are we excluding those?

Todd Sturgeon won games against them in basketball. We've beaten them in Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Track, Wrestling, you name it. You aren't as intelligent as you think you are. Some of these takes are just "wild."

Congrats. Anybody can beat anybody once or twice. The point I’m making is that, overall, there is more talent roaming the halls at Bloomington South than at Floyd Central. Hence why Bloomington South wins in football and basketball more often than not.

5A semistate game:

Bloomington South @ New Palestine

South travels to New Pal and is hoping their third straight trip to the semistate game finally gets them over the hump so to speak as far as reaching the 5A championship game. It won't be easy since New Pal is not used to losing games, period.

New Pal's HC Kyle Ralph has racked up 153 wins at New Pal while losing only 14 times in 13 seasons. New Pal is averaging 45.8 ppg and has rushed for 2,998 yards on the season and passed for 1,734 ypg. Their defense has given up just 60 points on the year so far.

I'm not big at all on computer rankings, but according to Sagarin's rankings, South's strength of schedule is ranked ahead of New Pal's schedule with South's schedule ranked at 34 and New Pal's at 40. But, strength of schedule is, again in my opinion, an overrated stat.

IMO, South will try to shorten the game and keep New Pal's offense on the sideline (easier said than done) by running the ball with Braylen Townsend and Shaun Cooper lining up in the backfield, and they have almost similar rushing stats on the season. South is vulnerable in the secondary and because of injuries, they elevated a couple of JV players to fill in for the injuries, and those two players have a couple of games of experience starting with the start of the sectionals.

My crystal ball sees New Pal winning the game by a score of 38-21.

Harrell's site prediction: New Pal 35 Bloomington South 24

A slight correction to a stat I gave. I had New Pal passing for 1,734 ypg when that obviously should be on the season. I wish we could make editing changes whenever needed and not within a five minute or so timeframe from when the post was first posted.

@ptr I was looking at John Harrell’s website and I noticed some interesting scheduling information. Plainfield has released their entire schedule and Bloomington North is slotted to play them in week 5 which is exactly the same week Greenwood would play Plainfield. Based on this, I assume Bloomington North will just plug into Greenwood’s spot in the Mid-State schedule. This means they will only have weeks 1 and 2 open for non-conference games. Mooresville has been Bloomington North’s week 1 opponent the last four years so I’m sure that opens up week 1 for a replacement. BNL has been their week 2 opponent for the last five years. My assumption is that will continue and the week 6 game with Jeff (which is only one year old) as well as the week 7 game with Columbus East (which is four years old) will be dropped completely rather than moved to a different week. Therefore, this would mean Bloomington South will be their week 1 game. Unless BNL drops Martinsville (who they’ve played in week 1 the last eight years) and moves their game with Bloomington North up to week 1, I don’t see South playing the Cougars any other week.

As for Bloomington South, a week 1 game with Bloomington North fits well on their schedule as their week 2 game with Martinsville has been the norm since 2006 after the Artesians left Conference Indiana the previous season. Playing Bloomington North in week 1 would end the three year series with Columbus East unless South filled in for Bloomington North as Columbus East’s week 7 opponent. However, doing so would mean South’s week 7 game with Columbus North would need to be moved. If both South and Columbus North are independents then this shouldn’t be a problem. If South joins the HHC though then the series with Columbus North could be over. And if Bloomington South were to join the HHC then I assume they would just fill the spot vacated by Madison as each HHC team has non-conference games scheduled during the weeks they used to play the Cubs.

No word on Columbus North’s schedule next year but, based on the last 26 years, we can safely assume they’ll be playing Columbus East in week 2.

As for Southport, they will be going independent and already have eight of their nine regular season weeks filled. It appears they’re still in need of a week 8 opponent. Other than Terre Haute North in week 4, they don’t have a Conference Indiana team on their schedule.

Thanks for the information. You have delved into it more than I have so that's greatly appreciated. I hadn't looked at the Harrell's site thinking they wouldn't have anything posted yet on next year's schedules, but obviously they have. I guess people will just have to sit back and wait for the dust to settle on this to find out how things will shake out.

It’s official. Bloomington North vs Bloomington South is now a week 1 game.

Yep. Filled in for Greenwood on the Mid-State schedule, kept BNL in week 2, and moved BHSS to week 1.

Maybe I'm living under a rock in Bloomington, but I've heard absolutely nothing on this locally, so if true, they are keeping a lid on it here, at least from my perspective. As I said in previous posts on a possible conference move by South, I'm not close to the football program, so there is that. I would assume that CI won't be completely dead until after this school year in all sports.

I assuming that if this is true, South will still have an independent schedule for 2026 since most HHC teams have complete schedules for next season.

Revive Conference Indiana.

Bloomington South, Chatard, Columbus North, East Central (Football Only), Roncalli, and Southport.

Gonna need another team for all sports because Southport wouldn’t want their football team to be in that conference.

Columbus North now open. Coach Logan Haston taking a college assistant job. Statement released today.

Yeah, I just saw that. Bloomington North still hasn't named a new head coach so there are now two programs down in that area in the search for a new coach. When Bloomington North names a new head coach it will be their fourth head coach in as many years. I'm still waiting for any news as to whether Bloomington South will be admitted to the Hoosier Hills Conference or not.

Has there been a hire at Columbus North yet? Been a month or so since Coach Haston informed he was moving on. Did they go internal route and it just hasnt been updated on Harrel?

No new coach yet. They just lost their boys basketball coach too.

Has anyone heard anything about Columbus North and the possibility of a conference affiliation after this upcoming season as an independent? I might as well throw Southport in there also since they are going the independent route this coming school season. I have not heard or seen anything about any efforts on that front with both schools. Bloomington South is moving on to the Hoosier Hills Conference after the upcoming season as an independent.

Both Col. North and Southport were able to quickly fill out an independent schedule for the upcoming football season, but Bloom. South really struggled to put a schedule together. I don't think either Col. North or Southport want to have to go through the scheduling problems trying to fill out an independent schedule down the road for any length of time.

Columbus North contacted the HHC and the HHC said no.

Hopefully the source you got your info from is the same source that led you to believe BHSS was not going to join the HHC because Columbus North and Silver Creek should both be targets for the HHC to expand.  10 members with 2 divisions for football - Bloomington South, Columbus North, Floyd Central, New Albany, and Jeffersonville in the “Metro” division, and Bedford North Lawrence, Columbus East, Seymour, Jennings County, and Silver Creek in the “Central” division.

You got those receipts, right? I never said ANY of that.

I can confirm:

HHC voted to expand.
BHSS is not (as of 7:51pm 1/27/26) currently/in the process of joining the HHC.

These were the two comments I was referring to about your source. You said you were reading between the lines with your source and the situation was dynamic.  You did say in another post that you thought BHSS would be the school to add if anyone, and that you liked the idea of adding BHSS and BHSN along with dropping NA and Jeff.  The part I said about adding CN and SC is my own opinion.  My mistake if you misunderstood and thought I was implying that you or your source said that part.
