I've seen LCC play a couple of times this year and I think what you are saying is the part that's hardest to prep for ... stopping/limiting the big play.

LCC's kick return hasn't been all that good this season, although it has been consistent.  Up until the Rochester game, LCC's longest kick return was 26 yards.  Against Rochester, they pulled a 71-yarder.  Similarly, LCC pulls a couple one- or two-play drives that are big in either sparking the team or taking the wind out of an opponent.  Outside of the 3A teams that LCC faced this year, Guerin, West Lafayette, and Heights, they've been able to hit those big plays as well as just standard movement ... Metzger tends to be 100 plus rating when not playing 3A opponents.

I like LCC's odds on the passing side of things if Metzger's on.  Comparing to the LaVille passing opponents:

    • Bremen - QB rating of 100.4 with completion rate of 56.5% ... not including the second loss to LaVille. Scored a TD roughly every 6.7 completions.  Roughly 2,190 yards on 11 games.
    • Glenn - QB rating of 60.4 with completion rate of 50.2% ... not including the loss to LaVille. Scored a TD roughly every 9.5 completions.  Roughly 1,150 yards on 11 games.
    • Andrean - QB rating of 88.5 with a completion rate of roughly 56%.  Scored a TD roughly every 11.5 completions.  Roughly 1,700 yards on 10 games.

Metzger's comparison is QB rating of roughly 108 with completion rate of 50.2% not including second Seeger game.  Scored a TD roughly every 6.9 completions.  Roughly 2,540 yards on 11 games.  Four receivers with 300 or more yards a game and a total of over a dozen targets for the season.

If LaVille can shut down the pass, then that puts LCC in a bind ... although most teams think about shutting down the pass being with their secondary and LCC's really good at exploiting LB coverage and screens, so the linebackers need to be very in tune to the passing game.  If, as @First_Backer_Inside mentioned, LaVille may not have the offense, it could be an issue of how many big plays LCC musters; even if LaVille can impede the passing.

Incidentally, I give LCC the intangibles.  As @Donnie Baker says, that west endzone at LaRocca is good for an 8-point advantage and LCC will have played three of four tournament games at LaRocca come Friday night.  The field should be in really nice condition for a grass field ... and the LCC receivers will be quite aware of the parts that give and the parts that don't.

Be my guess...Andrean's  QB rating of 88.5 is quite comparable to Lcc givin the level of competition faced. The Lancers advanced... I'd expect a very close game ... darn ole Intangibles may decide it... btw Foxbat... Donnie Baker didn't say hm field was worth 8pts.... I did.. LoL

If you want to beat LCC you have to limit the big play. This was the difference in the Rochester game that won LCC the game. LCC had a long kick return that set up a 20 yard drive. They had a four play drive where they went 80 yards right before half. A 40 yard touchdown pass and an 82 yard touchdown pass. Rochester was also able to get pressure on the QB early that helped a lot. That ended at the end of the first quarter when Rochesters 6'5" 300 lb DT tore his ACL.

In my opinion Laville is very capable on defense to limit LCC's scoring. I just don't know if they will have enough on offense to make it happen. They will need to use Plummer's legs to move the ball in my opinion.

Yep... Lcc could not stop the run .. also... untimely Penalties didn't help their cause...

What a difference a night makes.  Last week, LCC's odds placed them 2nd in Sectional 34, just to get out of the sectional.  After last night, they've jumped to the "favorite" from 2A North to spend Thanksgiving weekend in downtown Indy in Harrell's Tournament Chances.  They'll face off next week for the Sectional Championship against Seeger who they beat in the initial game of the season 35-8.

Well .. if they can get past the Pats again ... Lcc gets LaRocca for Regionals... Which is Nice....

Sag has Lcc as 3pt Dogs ... seems right to me. But then again... ther dat whole sacred soil of the west end zone thingy that Sag says is worth 2pts..... Be my guess... it's worth 8pts.... 😁    hmmmmm

Well color me purple.. if the West End Zone didn't produce 8pts to go ahead and then it pours... strange n wondersome......

Scecina is the only P/P team I ever remember voluntarily moving up a class. More should follow suit. At least in football.

Mishawaka Marion holds that record. Having been assigned 1A at the tourney inception. Petioned up to 2A... If memory serves... having won both 1A and 2A, petioned up to 3A? (Top Class)without success. No one attempted that again until Scecina... And Now You Know The Rest Of The Story!

Metzger's experience leading the offense last year when the senior was injured, and the way in which he has lead it this year benefits the Knights greatly. Not a lot of fall off if any in effectiveness at the QB position from last year to this year, just a little different style. I think the big difference is the offensive line, man were they big and experienced last year with 4 seniors upfront. Will be interesting to see how the front five handles the zebras front four in this matchup.

    Basketball on Grass....

i thought this was interesting. I went back and looked at starting lineups for both teams. Both defenses return 7 guys that played as starters in the Sectional Championship from last year. The major difference is LCC only returns 2 guys from the starting lineup on offense last year whereas Rochester returns 7 on offense.

I didn't realize LCC returned that many on the defensive side of the ball. Both defenses played very well last year. Will be interesting to see if that is the theme for this years game.

This is key... nice catch... means the Knight O needs to protect the ball .. yet b aggressive... Lcc seems to struggle putting up points in their 3 losses...

Lawrenceburgs had a big streak in the 70’s but had to forfeit several games because they were cheaters. The stinky clown never wants to talk about that. I swear to God he doesn’t

I never heard that till yrs later... I thout they just emptied the prisons ... those were some bad ass tiger teams!!!  😄

What's stupid about giving Adams Central credit for being a very good team this year? You're feelings are hurt because you can't fathom the idea that this AC team could be competitive or even beat the good LCC teams of the past. I'm not going to retract on my opinion that this is an above average state championship caliber 1A program.

Nope ... nothing to do w Lcc... when AC crushes Luthern ill reconsider ur ill conceived... No lower than 80% of all 1a champions statement...

In 2007, Sheridan scrimmaged Kevin Wright's Warren Central. Let's just say, Sheridan didn't exactly get run off the field.

Far too often we disregard small schools are something to do with talent. Like D1 vs D3. Meanwhile, we all know that class is set based off school size, having nothing to do with talent, before success factor that is.

Yes... it can happen... I wasn't alive 2 c it... but ther was that Milan BB Title thing in 54'  And with school choice and mayb pay to play gaining steam it could happen in small school future... who knows... btw.. that was an Awesome Sheridan Team!

Yes, be nice if we could get a playoff victory over any of those 4 at some point regardless of sectional or farther. Doubt we see anyone besides LCC or Lutheran unless Sheridan or Pioneer have success factor. Really want to see the 3 Adams County schools in 3 separate classes having success.

Mayb so... but if Lcc were put in Pioneers 2a sec I doubt ud c them in 2a either...  😄

Only time I'd say AC would have won 2A over 1A is maybe 2017 or 2018. 1A North had better teams than 2A North in 2017. AC beat Woodlan who last in the title in a close one. AC controlled the regular season game and won by 9 that year. Pioneer & Southwood would have probably won it in 2A or made the finals. Doesn't happen often as Luers is usually good as is Eastbrook & 2A Andrean. Andrean & Luers bouncing between 2A & 3A often.

Yeah... ther is always someone in ur way... either a good program or a lightning in a bottle team... or both at the same time... 1A is a diff animal... the low numbers keep any one program from dominating indefinitely... public or private I think history bears it out... Sheridan,Lcc, Pioneer, Luthern... i dont think Lcc would still be winning 1a titles but can hold ther own in ther 2a Sec... i get the beef against Chatard... but until the ihsaa fine tunes the success factor by say... seeding the entire tournament... programs will bounce down maybe sooner than they would if that were in place... Sec 28 is just ridiculous if u truly want the success factor to operate in a pure fashion.... jmho
