All of them knocked AC out in semi state. My freshman year & Zachery's, Sheridan throttled us in Monroe on their way to 4 appearances & winning 3. Pioneer clobbered AC at the Pit in 97 and then my brother's senior year 2016 they won 22-8 in the cold monsoon. They'd lose to Linton but then get their wins in following years including 2018 over us in Logansport. I believe it was in 99 LCC came to Monroe with a stacked squad and whooped us. LB core was outstanding. They had their run when we were down & then beat us in 2019 at LCC on their way to another title over Lutheran in a barn burner. Now the last 2 years Lutheran has done the same at state to us. If we could have won say a quarter of those, it would have been awesome.

No worries... I respect the AC program... they won a State Title... so they Know what it takes... i've been around since 3 class FB... sooo when someone like BTF puts his credibility on the line making a bonehead statement like 90/80% of 1a Titles would go to this AC squad... its just absurd... the closest thing to that I can remember was when 84? Sheridan fans thout they could win the BiG School Title... 😄  I'm sure their staff knew better... but hey it's alotta fun to speculate!  😊

  2. With week 7 in the books... id guess Triton Central has an edge to win 2A... not to say someone else in 2a south couldnt knock em off.. 2a north is an absolute free 4 all... id give a slight edge to Luers right now if I had to choose... as for Lcc... sag has them way up ther right now... n im not sure they can get by the Zebras with the way Tippy Valley dismantled WL... too bad TV is in the Sec of Death... that Sec is absolutely loaded... maybe more so than I can recall... n dats alotta yrs!!   Id still say 2a overall is not as strong at the top as in yrs gone by... jmho

  3. Great week to get a gage on what appears to b a down year in 2A... Lcc taking it on the chin vrs Guerin, WL and couldnt score vrs Ham Heights.. with Tippy Valley vrs WL (Tippy having blown out Rodchester) and Andrean vrs Chatard.... 2a north may get a little clearer...  aaaaahhh gotta love the transitive property of HS football... 🤔😄

It feels like a down year for a lot of teams across the state. I've been paying attention to a lot of teams in the northern part of the state for 2A. Feels more wide open than it ever has. Other than Chatard in 3A, 1A and 3A feel kind of feel the same way. Could make for a great first couple of rounds of sectionals to start the playoffs. Hard to believe we're already on the back half of the regular season after this week. The years keep going by faster and faster.

Agree... still seems like alotta the the same suspects... tho not as strong... the Zebras and Knights appear to on a collision course again... not sure... but think a Zebra win puts Lcc in 1A??

I think WL was ranked 8th in 1950 when they played Jeff.  8-0 Jeff played 8-0 WL on November 9, 1950.  7000 fans showed up for the game despite snow flurries and bitter winds.  Jeff scored on a 76 yard pass play from Bill Bone to Carl Braun in the 1st.  WL scored on a 6 yard run by Bill Ellis in the 3rd.  WL was called for a penalty on the extra point, and the longer extra point was missed.  Jeff won 7-6.  The bad weather might have hurt Jeff's great passing game, so its hard to say if the 42 team or the 50 team was better.  I'm going with the 1950 team.  That penalty caused WL to miss the extra point.  The game could have ended in a tie and WL Would have been ranked higher.  I talked to someone that played on the 1950 Jeff football team.  I told him the WL players thought the refs made a bad call on that extra point try.  He said to me, "Oh Boo Hoo."

N if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump its a$$ ... no shame staying with 50.. jus 42 will always be higher.. 😊

I think some of the South Bend teams were better than WL in 1942.  WL did beat Jeff 6-0 on Oct. 2, 1942, but Indy Shortridge also beat Jeff 13-7 in 1942.  Frankfort was the team that scored on WL that year.  WL beat Frankfort 20-6.  In 1942 there was a mix up and WL played a very bad Monticello team twice.  WL beat Monticello 72-0 on Oct. 9, and had to play them again on November 6.  WL won that game 53-0

I never won that argument.. 😆  42 has a rightful claim... their members beat the so called National Champs and they were never beaten... hard to argue that... think the final state poll had them around 5th?

I think the best team WL ever had was the 1950 team. Jeff was number 1 in the state and WL played them the last game of the season and almost beat them.  The score was 7-6.  The score of the game tonight will probably be 42-6.

WL lore says the undefeated 42 team.. scored on once.. coached by Malcomb Mackey ast coach Gorden Straley..was National Champs. As members of that team forming the Meridian Athlectic Club, were said to have defeated the National Champ Junior Bears at Soldier Field... at least it's how I heard the story.. 😁

Want to give a shoutout to the game tomorrow night at Gordon Straley Field in West Lafayette.  It will be a special night not only because the Red Devils will be playing one of their most respected rivals in the Rensselaer Bombers, and not just because it will be homecoming, but more importantly they will be celebrating 100 years of playing football at West Lafayette High School. There will be many alumni players, coaches and others there to celebrate a storied history.

Through 2020, West Lafayette HS had the fourth most wins of any school in the State.  They have numerous other accomplishments that are listed in the IFCA record book as well.

I hope to take some pictures of some of the festivities associated with this special night and post them on this thread.

Awesome!  Pop was a Sr on the 42 team. Still have his letter sweater... Great Depression kids thew nothing away!

The group of guys that were part of the four-peat teams have kids that are getting old enough to play youth ball.  My wife ran in to a family the other day that's transferring into the parish from one of the other area parishes and recognized the name as a kid that I coached in youth ball back in 2002.  One of the other kids from that same group just had his 4th kid last season.  Not sure about the Anthrops, but there's definitely names on that squad who had family members whose names also echoed on Friday night ... and probably some coming up the ranks.

    I'll circle 2029... 🤗😉🤭😁

How many children does Danny Anthrop have?  Maybe he will have about 5 boys and Jackson can have 5 boys.  That's what its going to take for LCC to beat WL.

That lil school has an amazing gene pool.... ther a reason they ended a Fantastic Jeff Teams 29 yr sec streak n were a breath away from 2 final 4s in one class hoops tourney... n daughters keep changing ther names!    getting a group together is the hard part ... esp for FB!! Take a look at names for 69.. 99.. 09.. 39? 49?? 🤣

I would suggest it's more a reflection of rule changes than anything else... the typically less Beefier team has Way fewer TOOLS these days... to even out the line play... places a premium on creativity, timing, anticipation.... ect

Or jus wait for the next Gen to come on line..all together.. with a huge athletic line and 8 Anthrops... 😆

From 1971-1990 LCC was 2-18 vrs WL.  LCC won in 1976 and 1989.  This normal is worse than the last normal.  Check out the scores!

    1977 - WL 7 LCC 0

    1978 - WL 29 LCC 6

    1979 - WL 21 LCC 6

    1980 - WL 13 LCC 0

    1981 - WL 22 LCC 0

    1982 - WL 14 LCC 0

    1983 - WL 33 LCC 6  (LCC 0-10 in 1983)

    1984 - WL 60 LCC 0

    1985 - WL 35 LCC 6

    1986 - WL 20 LCC 0

    1987 - WL 31 LCC 13

    1988 - WL 23 LCC 6

    2017 - WL 49 LCC 0

    2018 - WL 34 LCC 0

    2019 - WL 50 LCC 0

    2020 - WL 47 LCC 14

    2021 - WL 43 LCC 7

    2022 - WL 52 LCC 21

    2023 - WL 37 LCC 7

I would suggest it's more a reflection of rule changes than anything else... the typically less Beefier team has Way fewer TOOLS these days... to even out the line play... places a premium on creativity, timing, anticipation.... ect

Entire conference seems down this year. Lost a lot of studs, both football and wrestling. HH graduated everyone from 170 up. Jordan Cree was a huge graduation for Rensselaer in both sports. Skill players are having to step up and prove themselves without the horses.

Def a.. Whers The Beef.. yr in the HC... jus by the Transitive property of FB.. and a beefier sched for Western so far... unlike Tippy .. id give the edge to Western vrs HH.. should b a good game tho... darn ole intangibles will likly decide this one.... lol

The record is 12 years from 1977-1988.  Most of those games in the 1970's and 80's against WL were competitive.  The games the last 7 years have not been close.  HH will probably get WL.  Maybe Indy Lutheran should play WL this year, that would be a good game.

So... Lcc was 1-19 in a 20yr stretch vrs WL.. the lone win in double OT... looks like the new normal to me...

MY "OH MY" Teams of the week are all the teams in the Hoosier Conf., except Hamilton Heights and West Lafayette.  When WL lost to Harrison 42-6, it looked like WL might not be as great this year as they were in past years..  It looks like you don't have to be that good to beat most of the teams in the Hoosier Conf.  There used to be a lot of good teams,  like Tipton and Rensselaer, in the Hoosier.  Tipton had not scored a point the last two weeks and LCC has only scored 7 points the last two weeks. WL has beaten LCC the last 7 years.  WL only beat LCC 37-7 this year.  That is one point better than last year when WL won 52-21.  Rensselaer, Benton Central and Tipton, OH MY!

This 7 yr stretch may now hold the record for the longest losing streak to WL in Lcc history... previously held by Lcc 70-75??  As for the HC.. all that's left is to determine who gets WL... Western or HH.....
