Chatard at Roncalli (Sectional 22 Championship)
Dave007 replied to Lysander's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Chatard is playing their best football of the year right now...I imagine the same can be said for Roncalli but I am pulling for the upset. Chatard 24 Roncalli 21 -
State tournament and playing fields
Dave007 replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I would say that any high school football games played in the month of November should all be on turf fields, given the point made above. Any natural grass fields this time of the year are going to be compromised. With that being said, I fully support games for 'regular season' to be played on natural grass no matter what the conditions. -
I am looking forward to HSE/Westfield potential matchup in few weeks!

And.....we have another game at Arlington next Friday 10/22 and the following week on 10/29. Who knows what the weather will be then maybe even worse than last night! And probably one more in November (I pray it will be New Pal). Too much looking ahead I know... While it would have been very gracious for CG to offer up their facilities for the game last night, you know that decision would have been up to the players and they would never go for that.

Agree, was a very fun game to watch and most fans from both sides I think would agree with that. I think Cathedral struggled more than GC did with play surface mishaps, but it is what it is! I thought play of the game was ion 4th quarter when CG's punter (Jackson who is also QB) took a very high snap, and it looked like he stretched 8' tall to grab the wet ball with one hand...then nail a punt to put Irish on 2-yard line. If that ball went over his head Irish would have easily recovered and returned for a TD. Now the second season begins!

It is nothing personal, but there is no room. Maybe 5 bodies can get inside...we have our radio team, two coaches and PA guy and it is PACKED. Our video guy / coach is stuck outside and usually sets up behind student section. All the visiting coaches have to take a spot top row of the stands either left or right of press box. Every visiting teams has to put up with the same thing. It has been this way FOREVER at Arlington. Gotta love old-school.

Yes totally agree, I suppose weather is some of the blame as I know of several Irish fans that are going to resort to house viewing parties (with copious amounts of alcohol) and the fact CG is on fall break will effect their crowd size. I am more surprised there is not more hype for this game than their already is....but at the end of the day- in reality- this is not a make or break game for either team. Come Monday, both will still be ranked #1 in respective classes and anything less than state championship would be major letdown for both teams.
-
I agree with the gaps between teams in their respective classes are wider in 5A than 6A, but CG being ranked #9 in the nation is no fluke. It will be interesting to see how the weather truly effects the game. 49 degrees + 15mph winds + 1/2" rain projected + grass field = conditions both teams probably have not played in quite some time?
-
I think if both teams were in 6A you might see the coaches take the gas of the pedal, maybe even rest starting unites after halftime..only because these two would be play each other again in a much bigger game on Thanksgiving Weekend. That is not the case this year of course. CG and Irish are so far ahead of the rest of the pack, and fitting this will be the most difficult game of the season for both teams. Both will blow through everyone when the 'second season' starts in a few weeks so let's enjoy this one while we can!

https://gridirondigest.net/topic/4832-move-the-game/ https://gridirondigest.net/topic/4723-cgcathedral-at-arlington/ This has been discussed already multiple threads....bottom line is Cathedral thrives on its history rich tradition and Arlington is a big part of that over the last 40 years. And to move the game, Cathedral would have to pay. And on top of that, if the game was moved it would also pretty much take away home field advantage to some extent.

I actually think the parking's bark is worse than its bite. In attached photo, everything outlined in yellow is typical parking availability for a typical home game. I realize this game is not typical so things will be tight. As long as people don't double or triple park in the strip mall there should be sufficient space.

The Irish Tailgate will start at 4PM per Twitter. There was a huge crowd at the Cathedral / Chatard game @ Arlington and I recall a very long line of people still waiting to get thru the ticket gate midway through the first quarter. If the game starts at 7PM (I have a feeling it will be pushed back to 7:30 start thou) I would plan to be in your seat at 6.

Agree, this game will be special and I am sure local TV will air live...so will be fun to attend in person and watch it on TV later. I think both teams have a lot of respect for one another...after last years game, it was really cool to see both teams and coaches embrace each other and hug it out (even all things Covid going on at the time). Clearly these are the two top teams in the state with a lot of distance between the others which makes them both so special and they all know that. It will be great next year when Cathedral is finally back in 6A where both teams will probably have the opportunity to play twice (assuming we renew regular season game). Grover - I am curious- is the last time Trojans played on grass the game at Arlington two years ago? I see rain in the forecast for Friday which could make things really fun! Irish 14 CG 10
