One of the other quirks about Sam’s announcing that made me giggle was when he would report other scores. There was always a good chance that he would report at least one score from a game between two obscure schools nobody in the stands had ever heard of (much less cared about) - and there was also a good chance he’d report a score from his beloved Cincinnati Reds (but only if they were winning).

Temp’s Top 25 (Week 7)
MHSTigerFan replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
EC had a common opponent with Ben Davis and Center Grove: Moeller. EC put up 38 against them and beat them pretty comfortably (38-28). Ben Davis thumped Moeller. But CG needed OT to win by 1. I can’t say I watched Snider. But they barely survived (19-18) a Mishawaka team that had played Northwood to OT. EC beat Northwood in the state finals: 42-14. Last year’s EC team was one of the best blocking HS football teams I’ve ever seen play. Pretty much every play they ran was executed flawlessly by all 11 guys. And nobody they played was even able to slow their offense down. -
Temp’s Top 25 (Week 7)

Fair enough. I appreciate you doing it and trying as best you can to be informed about it. It just seems like a really tough thing to pull off. No worries. -
Heard that Sam Tenbarge, Memorial’s longtime PA announcer (known for his “Wooooo!” and his terrible jokes about driving home safely) passed away early this morning. I believe he was able to get in one final “Woooo!” on the mic last night at the game.

Temp’s Top 25 (Week 7)

That comment wasn’t really directed at temp - or even at the idea of somebody having a Top 25 list. It was just in response to the post about top teams from lower classes sometimes being better than top teams from higher ones. And the success factor has probably had the effect of causing this more often. -
Temp’s Top 25 (Week 7)

Case in point. I won’t argue with anybody who said that BD was the best team in the state last year. But how many other teams, in any class, would’ve beaten the 4A champ East Central? That was one helluva football team. -

How many teams have you (or temp) actually watched play? I think somebody would have to watch (and watch carefully and analytically) all of the better ones to produce any kind of a useful ranked list of the best teams. It’s even hard to do with the NFL - let alone an entire state’s HS teams. -
Fisher may have had 4 passing TDs, not 5. I know he ran for 2 and Ellspermann ran for 1. They scored 8 altogether. Did the Tigers have one other rushing TD?
-
Reitz moved the ball OK in the first half. Just couldn’t sustain their drives. They did have the one score - on a great throw and catch. Other than that, their offense was pretty ineffective. Didn’t even get very far into Memorial territory. Fisher and Ellspermann were about as clicking as a QB/WR duo can get. Fish threw for 5 TDs and ran for 2 more. Ellspermann ran for one and caught 3 of those TD passes.

Here’s one angle. Fisher to Schulz

The ball was a foot or more away from the receiver right as he hit the ground. It was a terrible call.
-
Man…Brunson was right to throw a fit about that call. No way that was a completion.

Sectional 32 - 2024

Hopefully that game happens. I think it would be a good one. -

If the weather is as bad as they’re saying it will be, it wouldn’t surprise me to see games postponed.

As hard as it ever is to pick against a Nick Hart team, I'm going with the Patriots in this one. The forecasted bad weather might limit the scoring some. Both teams are pretty balanced in their passing/rushing attack. Both QBs carry the ball 9-10 times per game. However, HH's Goldsberry averages about 10 ypc on his carries, while GS's Foster only averages around 4 ypc. The reason I think this difference could prove crucial is that, in addition to passing less in the weather, both teams may look to have as few handoffs as possible to limit TOs. And Jett is simply the more productive runner of the two. But, as this matchup usually is, I expect it to be a very competitive game between two talented, deep, well-coached, and highly-motivated teams. With the teams ranked #2 and #3 in the 3A, it should be an even more electric atmosphere than it normally is. I'll go... Heritage Hills 21 Gibson Southern 13 That's because you haven't offered to change your mascot to one of their model names. Duh.

Man, if that’s true, that’s terrible. You just hate that for these kids. You only get one, 4-year shot at HS sports and they put in so much work for it. Hopefully the injuries aren’t this bad and they can get back out there.

As great an athlete as Clint was, he was truly an even better person. You’d think somebody that talented at so many things would be arrogant. But, as confident as he was, he wasn’t arrogant in the least. He was the opposite of arrogant. Positive, encouraging, engaging. I bet there isn’t anybody who knew him who would say a bad thing about him.

Clint Keown was killed in a car crash this afternoon. He was a phenomenal athlete and just an all-around great guy. Very positive to be around…from the time he was a 10 year old from St. Ben’s coming over and challenging the Memorial Varsity players to 3 point shooting contests. Clint was truly one of one. RIP

I think they give Fisher the option on some 4th downs. So I believe those fakes were both his choice after reading the defense. I remember when they were teaching him how to punt his freshman year. Having a QB handle the punting, if he’s able to, gives a huge advantage.
-
Speaking of Lindauer and Fisher, I’m surprised more HS coaches don’t teach their QBs how to punt - and give them the option not to on some 4th downs. That dual threat can really affect the game.

Tigers looked sharp tonight. Fisher was on his game.

Am I allowed to say? Not sure of the rule here. I’ll say this much: it’s not disciplinary or anything like that.
