  1. Screagle is right. If a player has NFL chops, the scouts will find them. That’s their job. And gobs of guys who don’t play P5 — or in the elite tier of P5 — make it to the NFL. There is zero question in my mind that a player should value playing time over destination. They do hang in a balance, of course. Playing time in the SEC would be better than playing time in the Mountain West. But playing in the Mountain West worked out pretty well for that “other” QB named Allen. That’s not to say Brady wouldn’t play at Ole Miss (or wherever). I have no idea. But I don’t think he’d be hurting his chances at a pro career by going G5. If he has what it takes, they’ll find him.
  2. It’s interesting - bc Boyd at GS has one more year while Fisher is in his class. But, assuming football was a high motivation for the Xfer, I kind of like the moxie in (presumably) believing he can beat Fisher out. But nothing’s guaranteed, and I’m sure that was communicated to him. I believe they both train with Tyler Norton at TNT.
  3. LOL...yeah, I'd say Montgomery's move was wise and understandable. But he's obviously a rare case. Most college coaches have traditionally liked their recruits to play more than one sport. But it seems this is becoming less the case. Apparently, Auburn's baseball coaches pressed on Cam Tilly to give up football. And it may have been a good decision on his part, as well. That gave him the opportunity to play for USA Baseball's 18U team. But I don't think it's always the best decision. And you see it happening even earlier than high school.
  4. It's possible. He has not hidden the possibility that he may ultimately give football up for baseball. The expectation right now is that he'll play next season. But there's a long time between now and August.
  5. I think that would be great for both the PAC and Tecumseh.
  6. It will be interesting to see what happens with Memorial's QB position next season (assuming he's eligible, which is a whole other discussion). I've never seen the kid play. I know he got some varsity time when Boyd was hurt -- but they didn't pass much in those games. They passed quite a bit in his JV games, tho. And there's also the issue of Fisher and baseball. He considers that his primary sport.
  7. It’s official now, and hardly a secret anymore, so I think it’s safe to discuss on here. Liam Bryant, a sophomore who was Tanner Boyd’s backup at QB for Gibson Southern this past season, has enrolled at Memorial for the spring semester.
  8. A makeup call for blowing it with Devon Mockobee? I’m happy for Clay. Great player and athlete. But it still amazes me that IU was that badly asleep behind the wheel that they wouldn’t even offer Mockobee a PWO…despite Darin Ward being an IU FB alum.
  9. Look at Klem, gettin’ the All-State nod as a freshman…and at DL, no less. Impressive!
  10. Interestingly, Paul Neidig recused himself from Porter’s case because he has known Porter’s stepmother a long time. She used to babysit his kids. But I don’t think it made any difference.
  11. Yeah, if SIAC coaches have a bias against Memorial, it certainly doesn’t show up in the selections. So I’m just not buying that. I do think it’s probably safe to assume that he didn’t get any support from Zirkelbach - who is a Memorial grad. I don’t know what led to him being left off. I just think he got snubbed…happens to kids every year, really. Probably some kids from other schools who also deserved to be recognized.
  12. Pierre - 13 games, 1015 yds, 5.4 ypc, 78.1 ypg, 12 TD Johnson - 10 games, 751 yds, 6.2 ypc, 75.1 ypg, 4 TD Rode - 11 games, 1123 yds, 6.2 ypc, 102.1 ypg, 13 TDs
  13. I’m a bit of a homer, and I realize he missed 2 games. But I think Porter Rode got screwed by not being 2nd team.
  14. And won 3 sectionals, 2 regionals, and a state championship.
  15. That EC team would’ve beaten Castle and MD by…a lot. No shame in losing to them. They’re a fantastic team. Their defense was spectacular. Memorial actually scored more against them every team they played except for Cincinnati Moeller.
  16. That would be an improvement. But why not the POY, too? I mean, they already have a lot of all-PAC players because of the two divisions. That’s understandable, because it has a lot of teams. But separating those awards adds 6 extra players across the two divisions. I don’t see that as a positive at all. I see it as dilution of what should be a big honor. Anyway, not my team’s conference. I just find that odd. Do a lot of conferences do their honors that way?
  17. OK, 6 out of 12. I miscounted. But, still, half of the league’s QBs are all-conference? Why not just have a 1st and 2nd team…and then have the POY be the one of the players on the 1st team? Doing it this way devalues the honor, IMO.
  18. It seems kind of strange to me that the PAC MVP, offensive captain, and defensive captain are recognized separately from their positions. Altogether between both divisions, I count 6 all-conference QBs out of 11 teams. That has kind of an “everybody gets a trophy” feel to it.
  19. I don’t think they practiced or prepared as much for Boonville as they normally would. Call it a hunch.
  20. Maybe Reitz should’ve prepared more for Boonville than they supposedly did.
  21. I’ll kick in some more and encourage everybody to do the same. Bills gotta be paid - and where else can you discuss Indiana HS football like this?
