  1. Apparently (according to the above article) the STRONG (not weak minded) Fred Joseph who grew up in Portage when "All they (he) knew was how to train hard and be tougher than the opponent," has a problem with kids playing TOO MUCH FOOTBALL to *checks notes* train hard and be tougher than their opponents (something Portage has failed to do since the days of Buzz)? Seems to be a BIT contradictory to me. Spare me the "health and safety of the athletes" speech. There are kids ALL OVER this state playing more than 5 quarters a week and if this man is (as you say) a strong minded, mans man that grew up when all you knew was train hard and be tougher than the opponent, then why is he crying foul when his kid is being worked "too hard" for his liking? Seems like a weird defense to mount, to me. Best of luck to Portage on their 4th head coach in 6 years. I'm sure the community will support the next guy! 🙄
  2. For sure a messy rule. The undue influence question is a GREAT one because NOBODY is going to transfer their kid (for athletic reasons) without first determining where is the right fit for their athlete. Which, as a result, puts the coaches, AD's, etc. at risk of becoming a party to or active participant in undue influence. The IHSAA by-laws define undue influence as... "the act of encouraging or inducing a prospective student to attend a school for athletic purposes." So for the sake of this conversation, the scenario @slicer28 lays out could very well fit the definition of undue influence. Parent calls and asks a coach or AD about moving their kid to their school, asks questions about the athletic department/ specific sport program they want their kid to join. Coach or AD answers ANY of those questions and boom, they just recruited, OR as the IHSAA puts it they just performed "the act of encouraging or inducing a prospective student to attend a school for athletic purposes." Even though they didn't ACTUALLY do anything wrong by answering mom/ dad's questions they can be said to have encouraged a prospective student to attend their school for athletic purposes based on how they answer those questions. As you and I said slicer, MESSY!
  3. Couldn't agree more @Bobref! I have A LOT more questions for Portage than I do for/ about Roy Richards after this debacle. If it's anything like Facebook comment sections suggests, it's not true.. Lol
  4. Lets focus on the bolded/ underlined section here. Having had the opportunity to participate does NOT mean you HAD the opportunity to participate in varsity athletics just because you existed as 14-17 year old. If you're in high school 3 years and only make a varsity roster for 2 years (for this exercise we'll assume this is a 3-sport athlete that has been on Varsity 2 full years in all 3 sports), that means you only HAD THE OPPORUNITY TO PARTICIPATE in 2 out of 3 of those possible years at the VARSITY level, which is what matters for transfers. So if this hypothetical kid played varsity as a sophomore and junior, but did not as a freshman, they're considered Having had the opportunity to participate even though they did not, in fact, get a varsity opportunity to participate as a freshman? Their opportunity in year 1 was "well you're in our (member) school and have a pulse so you had a chance!" Idk, it's weird to me but to be honest this whole situation is weird so lets just buckle up.. Lol Disclosure: This is not an attack on slicer28's wording or explanation, or anyone's for that matter. Just facilitating some more conversation on this controversial topic.
  5. While it is REALLY cool he went in round 1 last night and I believe is the first "Region" guy drafted in the 1st round in like 60ish years, this is about as Parkhurst as Parkhurst gets... Lol
  6. I would not count out the Valparaiso Vikings on April 16th so lets not pass out the Regional Trophy just yet. Lol I would be shocked if Merrillville isn't the "favorite" but Valpo is 2-4 against Merrillville from 2022- today and 2 of those losses were last season. Vikings are due for a shocking win. Lol
  7. Slow day at my place of employment up here. Lol it was the most fun I've had in my 3 hours awake today.
  8. This took me to the Google machine and the only "data" on this topic is that 89% of the players drafted in the 2022 draft played multiple sports in High School and 88% in 2017. Prior to hitting Google, I would have guessed that 5% of NFL players on active rosters are "football only" guys. Given that 89% of players drafted in a given year, and 88% in another, were multi-sport athletes AND only 30% of players drafted make a 53 man roster, I think that 5% number is probably closer to 0-1%. @First_Backer_Inside with a near perfect "guess." Lol
  9. "They make fast people look... not fast." Lol
  10. Indy = The portion of a football practice where players work on individual skill building with their assigned position coach on each side of the football (offense and defense). Install = The act of installing the basic scheme of your offense and defense either on air, against cans (garbage cans), or players holding hand shields. If any coaches or posters have better, or an enhanced version of, definitions please feel free to add, correct, or chime in.
  11. Totally agree with you. It is not a coincidence at all. Merrillville does this up here. Crown Point, Valpo, Andrean, Hobart, Lowell, and Hanover are also very good about the sharing of athletes with ALL spring sports with football which is why it is of ZERO shock to me that these are the best 7 football programs in NWI over the past 2 decades.
  12. The programs with track/ football athletes that find a way to make it to "Spring Football" tend to have those kind of programs that end up in Lucas Oil year after year. I doubt the two-sport guys at HCC or MIC schools are sitting out football installs when they CAN make it. Obviously not a mandatory thing but good to get a jump on the little things for sure. If your program is worth a darn you're lifting 3+ days a week anyways all year long so you might as well do a little Indy and Install on 3 of those days to get a head start on the basics with as many athletes as you can during this allotted spring limited contact period. I will add. As far as your Track > "Spring Football," I do agree with that way of thinking. I just love when the two-sport guys prioritize both, and more often than not those guys' programs tend to win way more, hence my statement above.
  13. Whether this thread lives, or dies, I'm looking forward to my 2nd appearance on Hoosier Prep Gridiron's Facebook page for my posts in this here thread. HAS TO BE COMING! Lol
  14. Yes sir. You are correct.
  15. Not only does Hoosier Prep Gridiron provide ELITE Indiana High School football coverage, they also NOW provide ELITE (Republican ONLY as of 8:35 A.M. Eastern on Thursday April 3rd) political content as well. If you didn't Like or Follow the page before YOU GOTTA NOW, RIGHT?! 🙄🤣 Disclosure: I do not care what anyone's political beliefs are, that's your business. I do care when a self-proclaimed high school football page that is for the benefit of kids begins mixing in their own personal political views on that page. Weird behavior to me but it's EXACTLY as 1st and 10 said above.
  16. I think the highlighted section applies to weather and a slew of other topics as well.
  17. I've got $15,000 in quarters (not really) that I just mailed to the Goldsberry household to try to get them to move up North a ways... 🤣
  18. I know some of the coaching staffs across the State (especially near Indy/ 6A) are loaded with quality coaches but this CP staff is a deep one. 5 former NWI head coaches on staff plus a former DC from the area that has been to a state finals. 3 of those former head coaches are coaching a position and not managing an entire program anymore. The amount of time, effort, energy, and attention those guys can give their specific position group athletes is astronomical compared to how thin they were stretched as head coaches. Head Coach: Buzea OC: Former Head Coach/ Coordinator at DAC school before CP TE's Coach: Former Head Coach RB Coach: Former Purdue RB Albert Evans (been with Buzz awhile now) Offensive Assistant (not sure of his title): Former DAC Head Coach OL Coach: Buzz disciple and been with him forever. DC: Former DAC Head Coach/ Coordinator/ Former College Coach/ Coordinator OLB's Coach: Former Defensive Coordinator with a State Finals appearance DB Coach: Former DAC Head Coach
  19. The 6A central Indiana separation is apparent. The thing is though, only 5 schools have ever won a 6A state title (Brownsburg, Ben Davis, Center Grove, Warren Central, and Carmel) and only 9 schools have ever played in the 6A title game (Westfield, CP, FW Carroll, and Penn have all been runner ups in addition to the above listed Champs). I think the transfer rule (by allowing schools like HSE and other HCC schools to change their enrollment policies) COULD achieve what you're asking for here by leveling the playing field. NO, this will NOT help Jeffersonville, Lake Central, Portage, or Perry Meridian but odds are those schools are making choices that are leading them further away from 6A football relevancy. As far as coaching and "recruiting" is concerned I agree with you that the best way to go about it is finding the 8th grade talent and convincing those families to be a part of your community/ school. The ones near or in NWI (Chicago Catholic League powers, Andrean, Valpo, Crown Point, Merrillville) who do that well tend to win much more than those that don't who continue to fall further behind.
  20. To me school choice (by the definition of: a parent has the right to choose where their child attends school) is and always will be a good thing. It's when bills are presented and passed for the 10% instead of the 90% that things get dicey on this topic, from my seat at least.
  21. No need to continue, we're all Facebook famous already. Lol
  22. Illinois accomplishes 8 quite nicely.
  23. They value academics AND athletics at HSE, good for them! They're in the most competitive conference in the State according to most people's feelings on this forum. Gotta do what ya gotta do to compete, and those that don't well... 🤷‍♂️ HSE is the 3rd largest school in their conference. Idk if they're the last that should be "going after kids" (my verbiage would be admitting out of district students) especially when their last football state championship appearance was 20 years ago and their last boys basketball appearance was prior to 1993, if ever. Sounds to me like they could use an athlete or two... I appreciate schools who value BOTH academics AND athletics (extra-curriculars), HSE gets no hate from me.
  24. I would bet every dollar/ asset I own that he and his HPG recruiting portal have helped ZERO student-athletes become recruited/ recruit-able. Probably the part of his recent posts I personally dislike the most. Even the worst of the worst HS football coaches can connect student-athletes to "small college football coaches." Hell, some of the GOOD coaches who struggle at getting their guys recruited can STILL get kids connected to small colleges/ coaches, and do. I agree with many others that said he does supply SOME quality content, but there is A LOT of cringe worthy behavior and content posted on that specific site.
  25. The amount of times I see the "theme" of one of his posts being something that was discussed on this "other Indiana high school football message board" is staggering for someone who is happy to be free from the lot of us... lol
