In my opinion, the most shocking and saddest of these enrollment numbers is Griffith High at 609. I'm not sure they've ever had that low of enrollment in recent history (2 or 3 decades). They've always hovered in the small 4A, big 3A range. For Griffith to be considered a small 3A is mind boggling for a guy from the region.

**TRIGGER WARNING, "THE COVIDBROS GOT TO ME" COVID RANT** I know where you guys get your "facts" and "expertise" on this virus based on the statements you make about it. It's absolutely false to believe that this virus is going to result in all of these student athletes being in ICU or even near the hospital. You're naive or just ignorant to believe that. Most of our student athletes are working part time jobs, hanging out with friends and family or playing travel sports, AAU, etc... Where are all of those student-athletes in ICU? They've been playing since May... It was never about the amount of covid cases, it was about flattening the curve. Flattening the curve means not having an overflow of people in the hospital and in almost every part of the country we didn't. We drastically overestimated this virus and now we are seeing the effects of it. Now the goalposts are moved to nonsensical measures such as keeping covid cases down and even waiting for a vaccine that still won't make us immune to this thing... Right now, 4 weeks after Florida hit their peak in hospital bed usage and 300,000 cases later Florida still has more hospital beds available now then they did then. A higher case count does not mean we don't have control of the virus. Everyone is going to get this thing at some point or another you're body has to build an immunity to it. Unless you want to live in a bubble the rest of your life by all means do it. Collect unemployment and other government benefits, live the life you choose. But, there are people in this world that want to live and most importantly NOT LIVE IN A FREEDOMLESS SOCIETY. The fact of the matter is, although cases are going up (WHICH IS OBVIOUS) death rates have dropped dramatically. More people or just about the same amount of people in the US have died from pneumonia this year in all age groups. We KNOW who the vulnerable are, if they choose to isolate themselves then they should, people with 1 or more underlying conditions, cancer and the like should definitely isolate themselves from sick people. But that's always been the case. 1% of Americans have gotten the virus and more will get it. .04% of Americans have died from this virus. So no, it isn't life or death. The fear porn that some of you guys watch and reference should be banned. You should be more concerned with obesity, depression and other physical/mental illnesses. Taking away a kid's season or sport because you think it's just a game or you genuinely think it's life or death, is one of the most elitist and privileged perspectives on this virus I've ever heard. What is Hammond Noll a part of? In terms of a diocese? Could they do the same thing and move south? I'm interested to see if Illiana Christian would ever put together a football program. Everything south of US 30 is booming, I wonder how much it'll actually affect those schools. (Lowell, CP, Merrillville, Hanover Central, Lake Central... I may be forgetting a few)

In my opinion every school district should be able to make the best choice for the student body they have. Recently, there was a rumor in the city I work in that my school district was "canceling or shutting down" the season. We had a team meeting addressing the issue and clarifying what our plan was moving forward. We had multiple players express their passion about the necessity to have football this fall or any sports for that matter. Some of them, I talked with privately broke down crying explaining their situations they are dealing with in life right now. The reality of it is, where I coach and I'm sure there are more coaches in this boat, most of my young men have been working part time jobs to help make ends meet for their families or became the caregiver to their younger siblings. The question of should we return to football or not isn't all about the game itself but what it allows our student athletes to get away from and in many cases it is their home lives. I can tell you about many unfathomable stories some of my young men have gone through during this time of "quarantining." If we continue to push this virtue signaling and pretend that this virus is worse than, mental, emotional and physical abuse or even neglect by some of our young men's families. Then we are going to have far worse problems than just this hatred and bickering we are all privileged to take part in on this forum. What may be a problem to you, isn't even a thought in our student athletes mind. If you don't have any young men like I just described then please just try to understand why it is that important that we get back to sports this fall.

I could be wrong about this but the similarity amongst those schools that have suspended summer conditioning, including school city of Hammond and East Chicago is that none of those schools have introduced reopening plans as individual districts. In my opinion, that plays an incredible role, it seems that a district would have a plan in place to reopen before allowing fall sports to proceed. School City of Hammond is announcing their entry into fall athletics on Tuesday.

I'm pretty sure the biggest reason for cutting off non-conference is to save money. It has nothing to do with covid exposure. Not having stadiums at 100% capacity is going to take a huge hit to the multi-billion dollar industry that is the NCAA not to mention the individual conferences. On its face it makes absolutely no sense to not have non-conference games considering Maryland travels to Minnesota this season... Or vice versa...

I thought I was the only one that didn't like our format in Indiana. The link is for the Illinois High School Football Playoff point system and selection process for playoff teams. They have a 256 team playoff primarily because of how many schools are in the state of Illinois. I'm sure there isn't some arbitrary number Indiana could come up with but it would probably be just above half of our state's schools making the playoffs based on this point system. It even goes as far as how to determine who hosts a game and what day/time. For instance, you could be a team in NWI and travel to play a team in the southern part of the state and vice versa. I think it'd make IHSAA football much more competitive going to this playoff format or something similar to this.

Yea I think you're right about all of that. I think most of our student-athletes tend to stay in state anyway but it is still great to have players on campus for any reason. I think there are a lot of D3 campuses in Indiana that have great venues and amazing facilities. When talking about a rotating regional or semi state, there are a lot of places throughout the state that could hold those.

IHSA uses NIU as their state title venue and they'll play at University of Illinois sometimes too. In Illinois they've got a cool playoff format. It's far different than Indiana and it starts with not allowing everyone to compete in the playoffs. If we got rid of that we could go to more of a true playoff format.

This may be a reach but I always thought it'd be cool if they did a traveling state title. One year at Lucas Oil, next at Notre Dame Stadium, go to Bloomington, and then West Lafayette. I'm not sure if there is a stadium in the southern part of the state that would be feasible for a 6A state title. I'm sure attendance would be much worse than it is now at Lucas Oil because they'd be outdoor games. But, at least those schools in the North & South wouldn't have to travel nearly as far every year. It would also take away that home game feeling those metro schools have when they play.

It's par for the course for School City of Hammond. At this point, they've been so disappointing that this was only a matter of time. Not sure if Morton will go through the same name change. Changing the color scheme of both schools would cost a lot of money. Not to mention all of the equipment they have to purchase for both schools and the new turf that'd have to go in at Morton. Sad day to be an alum for sure.

If you have the privilege to be a part of the 6% of high school football players that go onto play college football, then it is totally up to that player on where he decides to attend. The percentage is obviously less than that who go onto play D1 ball. Furthermore, every college coach has the opportunity to recruit and Allen is doing a heck of a job in Bloomington. He shouldn't be knocked for that, we should be happy they are staying in state and not walking on at a campus out of state.
