Hoosier Hills Conference
Impartial_Observer replied to starbacker's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I’m not making a disparaging comment regarding OV. My point being how is this an upgrade? I think BNL achieves what the coaching staff hopes to achieve and you can’t get to OV from ANYWHERE. -

OV had a great run last year…..I would challenge anyone on this board from recollecting when was the last “great run?” I’ve seen them several times over the years….it’s typically been mediocre at best. -

My kid played a non-revenue college sport, believe me I feel it. -

Here’s my beef with this whole thing and perhaps I have some romantic notion of college sports. The decision to make all these conference changes is first, foremost, and ONLY about money. Specially Football and MBB money. What about the wrestling team, or the women’s LAX team, or the swim teams? You know the student athletes who don’t have a million dollar contract at the end of their rainbow? What have we really done to them? Does Maryland really have to travel to Eugene, OR to find competition? What does this do to any Big Ten school’s travel budget? Will all of this cash be rolling downstream to the women’s LAX team? Somehow I doubt it. Scott Hall Softball HC at Butler told me when they joined the Big East their travel expenses went up 70K, and they receive $0 in budget bump. Barry Collier made the decision based only on MBB. All any of this does is hasten the end of the NCAA. And while I know I’m old and from another time, there are still NCAA student athletes out there, we’re setting for the money and the aid of a handful of players who will see the next level. -

I think it has a lot more to do with what you’re trying to accomplish with your scrimmage. Everyone is going to look like shit. First time at game speed, a lot of stuff still hasn’t been installed offensively and defensively, I think sometimes your more interested in looking at combinations of players, technique type stuff, and really just competing. One caveat I find interesting is at some point during this scrimmage something is going to go awry, how do my players react to that? Those type of things vs did we beat Mitchell. -
Geez boys, it was a joke.

Well this is going to make the Rose Bowl awkward.

I remember Knight bitching about the late night trip from Penn State. It’s only a matter of time until the conferences create their own Basketball Tournament and at that point the NCAA is over. -

lol, taking care of the officials. I told the AD of you put me in charge, we’ll never have a problem having officials. I committed for this season, may go check out a big game on off nights, may sub, I’ve had several people contact me. For the last 40 years my Friday nights have been dictated by my schedule, frankly I’m kind of looking forward to some free time. May just sit in the back yard at the fire pit and drink, who knows what I’ll be doing. -
Congratulations to Reed, well deserved.

I have retired from Friday nights and Seymour has offered me a volunteer Friday night position for their home games. I’m looking forward to the next phase of my Football career and seeing more HHC action. I should actually get a chance to watch the games and see someone besides the QB and the LT. 😉 -

I prefer the original. Honestly my brother got The Joker for Christmas back in the day and wore it out, I haven’t been able to stand Steve Miller Band since. -
It’s what youth sports have turned into. No one is more competitive than I am, I want to win. That being said when I coached we talked a LOT about perspective. Win, lose, or draw, the sun will come up tomorrow. Their people dying in a war in Ukraine, natural disasters all over the world, people losing their lives, their homes, etc., and we get to play a game for fun. Perspective! Oh and rest assured the kid and the parents involved…..ain’t gettin no scholarship!

Guardian Caps — Do They Work?

One of the benefits of all the neck work back in the day between Football and Wrestling did have a positive impact, very difficult to be strangled by hand. -

Worked a scrimmage last week at JC, the recurring theme I heard from several coaches is we’ll be OK if no one gets hurt. -

I’m not telling anyone not to use them, if you think they help you/your program by all means use them. -

Along the lines of your perception is everything comment, is FC or Seymour, at the the time either have hired a HC in the last 20 years been that good of a job? Neither school had really challenged East for the conference, both schools smallish schools in a big pond, particularly when there were just five classes. Granted, perceptions and things have changed a little since Moore and Bragg were hired. Some other random thoughts: I don’t believe jobs attract the applicants they used to. When a position opens up, at least in the AD’s I talk to, it’s mainly a bunch of young assistants you’ve never heard of. Why not hire within? Why not take a chance on a guy who’s been busting his ass for you already? I will give Moore some props, outsider looking in, being a young coach, he brought some guys out of retirement who really seem to be reenergized. I think that’s awesome, these guys still have a lot to offer, particularly a young coach learning how to be a HC. -

What IO was saying was I see no real chance of significantly lowering head trauma in this game until we can change physics or somehow change the viscosity of a player’s Cerebrospinal Fluid. The rest of it is just what the local ATC said. I think the real issue with any of this type of tech is the companies themselves are not usually in a position to have the research done, Per Bob’s study posted. Riddel or Schutt may have the resources, but does it really make financial sense for them to fund a study that may not add to the bottom line. I think we have made huge strides in technique changes and at least recognizing there is a problem. I really believe in the near term that’s probably where we need to focus our energy.
