Baloney. Did you even read the article?
Government regulation/zoning is the primary culprit here, not a limited supply of land.
Get what the market will bear!

Good for them. Great to hear other schools putting some money in.
I saw it in mid-June, it was all still under construction. I would guess it's completed by now. What I saw looked awesome. I believe there is still some renovation planned at their Baseball diamond as well.

Just noticed, Mitchell opens at Edgewood. After getting new red turf last year, Edgewood had another construction project over the summer. New home and visitors locker facilities. I can't recall whether they had already done a bleacher upgrade or if it was in the works. I know they've flipped home and away stands, so the visitors will now have to face the sun in the early season games. As an added bonus they have also added officials dressing in the new building, so we no longer have the long walk across the parking lot. Edgewood has made some massive facility upgrades the last two years, it looks awesome.

We had a concern with even two coaches. We had coaches critiquing our penalties, spots, and enforcement.... For a scrimmage....
My experience has been it's a great opportunity to explain new rules, talk to players to explain things, etc. That being said we had a coach get rather upset with us that we would not allow his "blind" player to wear and tinted visor. The best part was after he took his helmet off, he also had sunglasses on.

My observation: Charlestown tries to “win” a scrimmage. If they want to try to beat Floyd Central, then why not start a series with them? I have no idea about how these seasons will go for these teams. But it’s hard to say they are “evenly matched” when Charlestown never takes their starters out. Floyds Starters played 10 plays total.
This is not allowed per scrimmage rules.

What is the comparison BC vs Sey and BNL vs Mitchell? Like what are you trying to say?
He has no point other than being argumentative with me, apparently assuming I have some connection or affection for Seymour football.

No different than Seymour playing Brownstown.
They scrimmaged because it was close and easy. They play a regular season game because it’s a huge gate for the home team. They haven’t scrimmaged since they began playing a regular season game.

I’ll be in Bedford tonight
They scrimmage Mitchell
outside of gate revenue for two county teams I’m not sure how much BNL gets out of it but at least the boys get to him non-teammates.
It’s close and easy.

Is it time for the IHSAA to take over, and centralize, the game assigning process?
Something I’m sure the IHSAA wants no part of.
No.

Are there any advantages to doing a jamboree versus a scrimmage? I have heard some talk of conferences going back to a jamboree.
No idea, the format I received from the school was:
Quarter 1:
15 plays or 15 minutes Team A -25 yard line
15 plays or 15 minutes Team B -25 yard line
6 plays –First down and Goal Team A - 5 yard line
6 plays- First down and Goal Team B -5 yard line
7 minute break/ warm up

most crews I know would settle for a 12 pack on ice post game
I'm not naming names, but I know for a fact that a 12 pack and a pint of Makers one night did not make it the 15 minute ride from the liquor store a block down the street from New Pal to Cheeseburger in Paradise in Southport. Again, I'm not naming names, but I have heard there are some crews that are drinking teams with a football habit.

This summer we (Bosse) brought in veteran official Dave Snider to speak with our players and coaches. Was a really positive experience for everyone. Players learned a massive amount and were able to ask tons of questions.
Last night Mr. Snider invited myself and new Central HC Sean Coultis to speak with a room full of officials at their monthly meeting. Once again, this was a really positive experience for all of us. The running theme for both events is that communication is the key to keeping games and relationships positive and productive on Friday nights.
^^^^^^^^^^^^
This.
We have had coaches talk to us at several association meetings. I think having dialogue between coaches and officials away from the field usually yields good results. We get a lot of feedback from coaches that they appreciate our communication. Sometimes we have to agree to disagree but we always try to get them answers to their questions. Fortunately I think the "Bob Knight" approach of working the officials to get a call late in the game, is going the way of the dinosaur.

I have seen emails offering $100-$150 for lower level games. This has been going on in Baseball for a couple of years.
I know some conferences set prices for officials so that schools can't out bid each other for officials.
We see pay all over the place, some schools are currently paying $100 for a V game and the bottom side I've seen recently is $65. We got a $68.50 check last year as well, I can't help but wonder how the arrived at that number. We drove 2 hours last year for a game in rain and mud, ending with some freezing rain for 65 bucks. They did have towels for us and a decent shower, but the general consensus was "we ain't coming back here". And I will admit, we have not taken games based on pay/dressing facilities/decent showers and a towel. When I was still coaching, I used to take care of officials during tournaments at Seymour, and Seymour hosts a bunch of tournaments. It takes very little effort to take care of them, and they'll remember you and want to come back. As far as pay, I never expected to get rich doing this, but geez 65 bucks for 4 1/2 hours of my time, not including travel, is kind of a slap in the face. Forget the fact that officials have a skill set that is require for you to have the game.
Regardless the current situation is not good for the game, which ultimately is why we're all here. I don't know what the answer is, but we need to start thinking outside the box.

In a discussion with another Catholic AD a week or so ago, he alluded to the fact there could be some athletic ramifications from this situation which is sad. Politics has no place on the athletic field.

I usually try to ask the QB privately. After working the entire game, you have a pretty good feel for what’s going to happen.

This is funny, I don't care who you are!
